I've had my share of Glocks, even had 3 or 4 at once. I'm down to my gen4 19, It does what I need it to do. That said unless I blow it up or lose the one I have I won't be running out to buy a new gen5 Glock

Not just yet. But getting rid of the finger grooves is a step in the right direction for me.

I dont buy into things like hype or fads. I have one glock, a gen 3 19. It seems to work perfect. It has who knows how many rounds ,(probably 3-4000) with only 3 or 4 malfuntions. I dont carry it. I carry a revolver. All that said, I think Glock has to change stuff up a bit sometimes to generate sales. If they were all the same from 1980 to present people who had one in each caliber/size wouldnt need to buy another. If its new then you get a different product. Not everybody is like me and buys the same gun over and over.

I learned to shoot semi-auto center fire on a Glock 19 Gen3. The depth and breadth of selection of polymer framed, striker fired, semi-auto handguns was not as wide as it is today. It was prior the advent of interchangeable grip panels/backstraps that are ubiquitous today. No handgun fit my hand just right out of the box. Despite the shortcomings of the Glock grip, I acclimated to it to the point that shooting a Glock is 2nd nature.

When the Gen4 was released the slightly reduced trigger reach and grip texture had me more excited than a teenager on prom night. I was an initial release early adopter, and it was a mistake. The changes Glock made to the 9mm Gen4 19 and 17 induced all manner of failures. Updated parts were constantly released, but after close to a year of disappointment, I sold off those early adopted Gen4's.

Two years later, Glock finally exorcised the demons. The Gen4's reliability was on par with the Gen3. That's what brought me back to the Glock 19 Gen4. Unlike other pistols I own, I view Glocks to be tools. Tools don't need to be pretty. They need to work. A Glock 19 Gen4 is in my carry rotation, and is my most often selected tool for concealed carry.

Within the first two years of release? Absolutely not. I am unwilling to pay for the privilege to be an initial release tester.

The Gen3 to Gen4 design changes were of value to me: grip texture, reduced reach to trigger, larger magazine release. The unconfirmed design evolution from Gen4 to Gen5 (ambidextrous slide release, magazine release, and finger groove deletion) are not of any functional impact to me. Until I have a chance to examine a Gen5 in person, I truly won't know. I'll reserve my final opinion on the Gen5 until 2020.

No finger grooves and ambi-controls are nice options to have but I have no interest in them.

Glocks certainly have a reputation for reliability. I'll give you that. I've shot Glocks but just can't warm up to them. The closest I have to a Glock is a SD9VE. Otherwise my 9mms include a CZ75BD Compact, CZ75BD full size, SIG P226 CPO, and a SIG P6 I bought when they were not expensive.

My carry gun is a tool. I have no problem using an ugly wrench if it's the right tool for the job.

I have no need for pretty tools except for display. The ugly tools get all of the action

Gimme a single stack G19 with ten rounds and I might consider buying it.

I'm still waiting for the Glock 2000 that can pass through an airport metal detector undetected. But I hear it will cost more than a Port Authority Police Chief makes in a month.

If they came out with a G43 sized.357 sig with even six rounds, I'd consider it.

Have always had problems with Glocks. Grip angle is awful. They ALWAYS need trigger work straight out of the box. Their accuracy is fair but until worked on nothing to crow about. And, most important, I've never been able to meet ANY of my other automatics in accuracy with a Glock (can't shoot them worth a darn). So, the answer is no.

I have three of them, don't know what generation they are. I have a 9 mm, a 40 caliber, and a 45.
In this day and age I figured I needed something high-capacity. The Glock 19 long ago took the place of my old model 60.

So no, I won't be buying the new incarnation. The old ones are working just fine!

Because it's not called GEN5. That's just what people have been unofficially calling it. If you Google Glock gen 5 what you get is links to 17M which is the newest model Adopted by the FBI

It started as 17M and 19M. How they plan on calling it I don't know but it's official name is model number + M. Some have called it gen 5 M

I like Glocks. Right now I have three G 19s: one is a Gen 4 shooter, one is in the bugout bag and the other sports a 22 conversion unit. Don't think I need another one, though.

Amen. There are some that think Glock is the only thing out there but I own a few and their nothing spectacular but then again they're just tools to me.
Love the HK P30. It has the most important tool of all. A hammer. LOL

Know what's simply amazing?
A couple of years ago when I was working at an LGS and Gen 4's were sorta new, callers (especially around the panic-buying times) would call (the phone never quit...) and ask about a particular Glock - whether we had it in stock or not.
ABSOLUTELY - if we had a Gen 3, the caller would want a Gen 4.
If we had a Gen 4, they wanted a Gen 3.
If we had both - they'd 'wanna think about it'.
Arrrrggghh. It's one of the the things that made me glad to put working in LGS's in the rearview mirror.

Just acquired an old beater Gen 3 G19 as a truck gun. There will be no mourning if something happens to it.
As interesting as a good Estwing hammer.

My first generation Model 23 shoots just fine. It's been carried by several police officers, and shot countless rounds. I'd say it's just now getting broke in.

It depends on how much it will cost and if the grip angle (ergonomics) has changed.

I might. I like Glocks. I carried a 27 off and on for 20 years and it was a great gun. I don't think it ever jammed, and it got me out of some tight spots.

I gave all my duty guns to my kids when I retired. My wife has a 19 in the lock box in her car, and I have a 22 FBI Commemorative I've never bothered to shoot.

One of my buddies still in the Bureau was just issued his 19M. He's a big time revolver nut like me, but he can't stop singing the praises of his new heater, so I may give one a try.

While I am aware they are great Auto's for Law enforcement work, I have never ad any reason to own one. In fact I do not own any Polymer guns. Nothing really against them, I'd just rather hold Walnut and Steel. IMO they are still to big and bulky for EDC and practical dress, so I stick with my old fashioned M60-7.

Nah, I suspect Generation 5 won't be much different from the other Generations as they all look, feel and operate the same......... to me!

I like Glock pistols but not really interested in buying just because of a new Gen model.

That is probably THE best way to describe how I feel. I will say with 98% certainty that if I see a used one at $350 or less I will pick it up

Made it this far without a Glock. I'll muddle thru without a Gen 5.

These have a more 1911 like grip angle, regular barrel rifling instead of polygonal, and different triggers all due to the FBI contract.

May pick one up once I shoot it.

You'll need one of those extraordinary "Pennsylvania deals" for sure!

Be a shame to lose the polygonal rifling. I have a Baby Eagle with that feature and it is stupid accurate.

Default Glocks ... eh ...

... my son in law is about to become a Maryland State Trooper and he has suddenly gone Gaston gun crazy, LOL!

Personally, they don't fit my hands very well. They're nice guns and all but I just don't buy the hype.

I'm about to pick up another S&W M&P for my fall/winter carry gun. I do have a nice old Ruger P-85, but it's actually a bit too big for a carry weapon for me. Don't get me wrong it's accurate and always has been, I just don't weigh 235 pounds of muscle like I did when I carried it daily. So it's back to Smith & Wesson for me. A Shield I think.

God conversation starter though ... Throwin' Rocks!

How long before the first recall, uh I mean product upgrade? Glock makes a fine pistol but I'll keep my Beretta's and S&W's

This morning, I went to check out the Glock 17 Gen5. Out of all the hyped changes, there were 4 that stood out:
  • Finger groove delete. It allowed me to get a higher grip without feeling the "Glock Knuckle".
  • The slight flare to the mag well. Fast mag inserts are easier.
  • The trigger feels more like an early Gen2. It feels better than an out of the box Gen3 or Gen4. The Glock sponginess is still there, but there's less.
  • The barrel. It has a crown and has traditional lands and grooves.

Overall, the Gen5 feels better in hand than the two previous generations. I still refuse to pay to be an initial release tester. Even if over the next year there are no reported issues, I'm still not sure I'll buy one. The polymer framed striker fire market is so competitive that the competition is driving innovation.

My out of the box $300 Canik TP9 V2 feels better in hand and has a worlds better trigger. My Styer M9A1 has a better trigger and better overall grip. The H&K VP9 feels best in hand and has a better trigger. Move away from polymer frames, and the CZ 75B is as close to "just right" as it gets for me.
