Has any collectors here tried to buy knives from ebay yet?
I would like to get a Buck 110 from ebay, but not sure what customs will do, and how they will charge.
Ideal will be to get a Buck 110, and Buck 55 from same buyer and ship them together.

What is the best shipping options to use?

I bought two 2" switch blades that really are well made and for super cheap. They were both from China and I don't think I paid any freight on them. Coming from China on a slow boat does take some time to arrive. I still have both knives after several years and they both are in excellent condition.

I have been ripped off one time by a China seller on Ebay for a flashlight. Because the time had run out on filing a claim I was screwed. The seller said he would replace the defective light and I even made a second contact asking him about where it was. Both times he lied and I never saw the light or a refund. Because the shipping from China took so long that caused me to be waiting past the time limit for filing a claim.

Now I don't deal with any foreign shipper that doesn't have a 100% satisfaction rating. Most often I see foreign sellers do not add charges for freight. I just bought 3 bore snakes from China Ebay seller for a total of $5.87 and no freight charges. Quality is very good also.

Your message implies that the individual you're looking at on Ebay is not in this country - am I correct??
If so, there are a lot of Ebay sellers from the USA that offer Buck knives on Ebay - no Customs involved.
You need to clarify.

According to the Buck site -Buck 110 and 55 are both made in the US.
On eBay- Filter -Select Location- US and you will only get a selection of Bucks in the US.
Just sneaked a peek- bunch of 110s on eBay.
Amazon anyone? They got 110s for $34.25.

I have sold many Collectible/Art knives on eBay But I have never purchased any

The only knives I bought from China were the cheepo ceramic utility knives. Most all of my purchases from Chinese eBay sellers have been shipped via their postal system.

4-7 days the expensive way or 30+ days the FREE way.

Heading into America there have never been any Customs issues with any of my transactions.

Never buy from e-bay, but no customs charges on knives shipped by manufacturers in Germany, Switzerland, or Canada.

(These were individual orders, not commercial ones.)

If Henrik is in New York, why must he buy Buck off of e-bay? Buck knives are sold all over the USA in many retail stores or on Amazon, etc.

I think they cost quite a bit more in the UK and in Europe.

Don't buy any Buck model from an overseas source. There are counterfeit models galore. If you can buy a Buck 110 from Walmart for what, $35 how can if be a better deal from China?

Buck 110s have always been made in the USA. My local Walmat has Buck 110s with nylon or cordora (? spelling) fabric pouches for about $28 plus tax. If you do not want one hand opening or a pock clip then they are one of the best deals out there.

U.S. based eBay sellers usually mail a knife. Most transactions are trouble free. However, the two most common problems are sellers shill bidding on their own auctions and not following through and completing transactions when they do not get bids as high as they want. If they have a very high number of feedbacks they've been around long enough to have figured out how to get away with both without the buyer being able to affect their feedback rating. I have not bought anything from over seas through eBay.

I thought Bucks were made in the US. I probably would not buy a China Buck Clone. Though most of my production knives are probably China made, or Pakistan.

Forgot, I have a few French made knives, Opinel I absolutely love them, and would recommend them to anyone looking for a locking folder for utility. They are not fighting knives, but I would rather have a gun in a knife fight, if I can't get to my main gun, then I go for my BUG. I prefer my cane if I can't get to either gun over a knife.

Buck makes about 17% of their product line in China and all are marked to that effect. The 110 Hunter is just an example of one of their products that has never been made off shore. If you see one offered from someone in China its most likely a fake/counterfeit.

I can't speak as to Buck so this may be completely irrelevant to you, but I've always wanted a Sheffield-made carbon steel Barlow, so I bought one with rosewood scales a couple years ago for $25 or so (delivered by slow boat). It's proven to be a fine knife, as far as an inexpensive slipjoint can be (heavy spring, blade angle needed to be re-cut and polished): these days it gets compliments from all who see it (and they all want to handle it).

Kind of a low-rent gentleman's knife.



Anyway, I think others have discussed the right eBay considerations: look for good feedback and proceed with optimistic skepticism.

I have never bought a knife on eBay as I can usually find what I want on Amazon, Baryonyx, or Smoky Mountain Knife Works (the latter for Marbles, Colt or Rough Rider patterns that don't show up on Amazon).

I have made a few non-knife purchases on eBay, and never had a problem with a transaction.

For BUCK knives, you can go through Amazon.

Specifically one vender Copper and Clad is top notch. You can get a regular 110 for a good deal. Also they order in bulk special custom configuration from Buck. A 110 with stag handles and nickle silver bolsters for example, can be had for less than you could buy it from Buck.

Copper and Clad also have a web sight and you can order direct, I've bought from them they are top notch.

If your ordering a 110 from from eBay from a foreign vender you are most likely going to end up with a fake one.

110 is my EDC knife for the last 30+ years, I've worn several out and sent them back to Buck for new blades they came back looking new.

Good suggestions. Blade Headquarters has a great selection but not always the cheapest price. Amazon often has good prices I agree.

My wife buys eBay or Amazon "slow boat from China" stuff all the time, but it's always toys or children's items that are made there anyway.

Anything U.S. made and shipping from China for 1/5th the price is counterfeit...duh.
