My EDC knife is a Benchmade Auto 5000. I bought it while I was in Kosovo and also wore it during my 3 years in Afghanistan.

I have a custom stag handled damascus fixed blade knife that was about $225. I guess my next expensive knife would be a new Marine Corps bayonet.

Though the 25 bucks I spent for my Buck 110 in 1977 was a lot of money. Was given two Spyderco Mariners years ago and since I was on the oil spill response team always had one on me. The other is like the day I got it. Few years back went on a Benchmade kick. Griptillians and one fixed blade sheath knife. That one was about $180 bucks and to date my most expensive knife. Have a few Kershaws that usually reside on my workbench or by the computer. Even have my NRA renewal membership knife by the computer. Old Hickory butcher and carving knives I bought years ago in Pennsylvania. Must be over 30 years old. Frank

Cost 5 cents.

The old hickory pairing knife would make a great fixed blade EDC, just need a sheath. Opinel are good folding knives, but they are not one handed openers. Svord peasant knife opens with one hand.

OH 4 inch pairing knife under $10

Opinel number 8 folding knife under $20

Svord peasant knife under $20

The Old Hickory 7" butcher goes very nicely into a ten buck sheath for a Ka-Bar fighting knife. I just gave my son that combo and he is tickled with it. How long is the blade on that paring knife.

Uh, let me rephrase that. How long is the blade on that 4" paring knife?

That is a nice array of the kind of knives I like.

I guess I've never thought about a price cut off point on a knife. I do recall paying $150.00 for the Spyderco LUM I've carried for years.

Passing 60 I bought a couple of knives for "retirement" a Benchmade North Fork folder with wood scales for EDC...... and a Puma 4" Stag Catamount for wondering in Penn's Woods....... both in the $150 range.

My 'working" knives are........ $40-50 Kershaw's folders/assisted opening blades for weekends and Penn's woods work....... for fixed blades I've accumulated some Ka-bar Mark I's Deck Knives and Mini Ka-bar's...... both with 5" blades

For the SHTF or TEOTWAWKI and/or the Zombie Apocalypse ........a couple of Ka-bar Extreme Fighting/Utility knives and a couple of Hogue 7" EX-FO1 knives are in the safe......... they range from $100 for the Ka-bars to $225 for the Hogue's.

I've had "Savage Sheaths" made for several...................

Amazing what one can accumulate over 24 year.............

For a very lightweight well made folder, this just came out from Benchmade. Depending on your needs, this may fill the bill nicely.
