I know that it is not a S&W auto but it is a Super gun that I purchased today.
A Coonan in a 1911 platform in a 357 Mag Cal.
I am a 357 Mag nut and I could not pass this one up.
Very happy with the transfer because it is a Pre 98 Gun.

Be Safe & Shoot Straight

I have the recent production Coonan Classic and love it. It is fun to shoot and super accurate. Prefers 158gr full power loads. It came with a lighter recoil spring for +P loads but I had to do some experiments to find a load that would cycle with this spring... more of a +P+. Not as accurate with the light loads but makes for a fun plinker.

They are slick. I had one of the originals in the 90s. I can't remember if it was a model A or B. I let it get away and have regretted it, so I put one on lay away a couple of weeks ago. You will enjoy shooting it.

Looks to be in great condition! I have a new production coming in this week.

Very nice! I got to shoot one several months ago. Just as MikeR mentioned, the one I shot preferred the full power 158 grain ammo too. I thought the recoil was quite manageable, and seemed more linear than other semi-autos of similar size and power I've shot.

I had a co worker who bought one of the first model B's produced. He fashioned his own holster and mag pouches to carry it on duty as a Sheriff's Sergeant. It was a hoot to shoot and it was scary accurate. We were able to put our shots inside a 6 inch dessert plate at 100 yrds.
(But then my memory makes me a better shot than I probably was.)

I love my Coonan Classic and it's been fantastic for the just over 3,700 documented rounds I've put through it.

Yours is most likely a Model B, the A had a 1911-style swinging barrel link while the Model B was a more modern linkless locking system. I'm not sure if they still post it on their website FAQ but Coonan has an interesting answer to the question of "will new production magazines work in my Coonan Model B?" The answer was "...maybe!" and it went on to say that some fit and some do not but Coonan also said that if you care to ship your Model B to them, they can "adjust" the magazine well to reliably work with new magazines.

Because my club has a lot of steel plate racks in the pistol area, the rules prohibit "magnum" loads so I definitely run my fair share of hot .38's with the accessory 10-pound spring.

The Coonan is an absolute blast for fun shooting, especially with full-nuts .357 Magnum loads. Handloads are all I feed mine.

I been thinking about buying a 357 auto.Nice looking Coonan!
