Another Turnbull
Some of you saw my Colt SAA finished & built by Turnbull. Here's another Turnbull built gun I own. Remington UMC WWI Reproduction. Turnbull missed the mark in a few areas for a true copy, but otherwise, this is a hand fitted 1911. Nicer than the few Colt WWI's I've owned (but also a few $100 more). Grips are Buffalo Bone (but it originally comes with wood).

Almost no one does work like Doug does. He's one of the very best (and charges for it too).

Doug restored a 1927 vintage LC Smith Specialty Grade 16 gauge for me about 15 years ago. Beautiful work

Different shoes. I think I like these better. A little more character.

Turnbull is pretty much without peer in the finish and restoration world. And the 1911s that they build themselves are things of beauty.
Ever since they did that WWI repro pistol, I've wondered why they missed the mark on some little details, but I've never seen any explanation for it. I know they had originals to work from.
Although they do beautiful work, they've unfortunately priced themselves out of the market for ordinary 1911 admirers like me.
Your pistol looks great. The grips set off the finish beautifully.

Beautiful 1911.
I met him at a show in Greenwich Ct many years ago, and after viewing some of his work I decided all I could do was look.

It all comes down to disposable income. The guys who wear Rolex watches and drive Teslas have lots of it. Those who wear Casio watches and drive Toyotas usually don't. Whoever bought Gary Cooper's RM for $50K probably considered $50K as pocket change.

One thing about Turnbull always makes me smile.
If you go to their website, take a look at the "Barbeque 1911s" they build. They offer them with several different levels of engraving, and no prices are given online...you have to call and ask about pricing, okay?
I'm thinking that since their "regular" 1911s sell for around $5K, the "Barbeque" ones must sell for thousands more, right?
I honestly couldn't see paying thousands for a 1911 that has cooking utensils inlaid in gold on the slide.
I just couldn't do it.

That might go to the old saying, "If you have to ask, you probably can't afford it". At least that usually works in my case.

My guess about missing the tiny details would be that it was intentional so that the gun could not be passed as a fake. The closest I'll ever get to a Turnbull gun happened a few yrs back when I splurged on a USFA Bisley Flat Top w/CCH frame. I understand Turnbull did all their CCH work. It's splendid ! (I could never afford it today)

When you add the buyer's premium, the price went up to $60,000. For it to go that high, you need two bidders with deep pockets and money to spend. The prices of machineguns were ridiculously high. The MP40 made by Steyr went for $42,500 plus buyer's premium. Again, two bidders with deep pockets and money to spend.

I've never really been a fan of Turnbull's work, and the prices he charges definitely doesn't help to persuade me either.
The OP's gun looks pretty good though.
