Default CZ P10C initial thoughts and review

The new CZ P10C striker fired gun. Herd good things about it.... heard it's THE "Glock killer" got a good deal on a trade and picked up my only CZ.

Yesterday I headed to the range. Brought with me 800 rounds of various 9mm. To have a little bit of everything I have Aguila, Geco at 124gr and Russian Brown Bear at 115gr. Also some leftover Winchester Ranger 127 +p+

And since this gun is supposed to be as good as if not better than the G19 I brought my EDC, a early 2000 gen 3 G19.

The plan was to shoot just the CZ to get a feel for it and then go shot for shot with the G19.

This is the first mag worth of ammo at 7 yard. Nothing amazing but it's a new gun with nothing broken in and it's new to me. Meaning first time handling and shooting.

So.... Shot for shot. Glock on the left. CZ on the right. 7 yards

15 yards

25 yards

Rapid fire 10 yards. Unfortunately I forgot to take the picture of rapid fire from 15 yards

Winchester Ranger

Aguila

So now for my opinion which is worth exactly what you paid for it!!!

There were pictures I didn't take. Sometimes I forgot other times it wouldn't make sense because I tried to time shots. Very hard to do at a typical static range.

In reality the test should have been between 2 brand new guns. My G19 is old and has lots of use. While it's still all original the trigger is very smooth and the feel in hand is second nature.

CZ, while overall same size as the G19 and has the same mag capacity and fits most G19 holsters does have a slimmer grip. This did feel slightly awkward and had more felt recoil.

RECOIL. I thought the Glock had a little less felt recoil but nothing drastic. What may have contributed to the is that the CZ has very aggressive checkering...very!! By the time I got to 500 rounds I thought I was shooting a gen 4 G23. It chewed up my palm.

At the range

A few hours later

A few more hours later

And I could still see the mark in the evening.

ACCURACY. Overall better than the Glock but not by much. It is an accurate gun thought.

RELIABILITY. I had 3 issues. One was ...IDK! The other two were most likely my fault. First 5 rounds I had one failure to go into battery I don't know why. Could have been me. Maybe my thumb was riding the slide. The other two were failure to lock back on the last round. Gun is ambidextrous and it's very likely I was riding the slide release. I have the same issue with HK P2000 and P30. Otherwise it performed like.....well....like a Glock. Prior to going to the range I did nothing to the gun, I didn't even take it apart. Whatever packing grease was or wasn't there is how I shot it.

TRIGGER. Better than a NEW Glock but nothing amazing. Sig 320 trigger still blows both away. It felt like what a new Glock trigger should be if they took 2 min to take the grittiness out of it. In the 500 rounds the trigger did noticably smooth out.

FEEL. CZ felt good. Well balanced and a natural grip angle.....for me! Front serrations were a welcome feature. Gun comes with 3 back straps. Mine had the smallest one on and unfortunately you need punches to change out the back straps, which I don't have! There's a roll pins on the bottom that holds the back strap to the frame. I put the medium and large side by side and theres very little difference. I'm thinking that as you change from S - M - L there's just enough difference. I don't think anyone holding the small and then the large will see a drastic change. The grip serrations are very aggressive as I said earlier. And this is coming from someone who doesn't mind that. So if you're looking at this gun you may want to look into either sanding down the serrations or putting something over them. However, shoot it OEM first.

IMPORTANT ISSUES. The mag release is a bit unusual. While it's the typical thumb release its shaped and located in a way that you almost have to roll your thumb over it ....back to front....to engage it. With a loaded mag it does become stiffer and some people have complained that to release a full mag they had to shoot it to empty, including Larry Vickers. I DID NOT have this problem but I did see what they meant. That being said, as time went on it became easier to drop the mag. Obviously some break in is needed. Sights are aluminum and the type that absorbs sunlight to become night sights. HK uses those a lot.

CONCLUSION. To me it's not a "Glock killer". And I will NOT be dumping my proven G19 in favor of the CZ. The grip thickness of the Glock feels much better in my hand. Recoil is not as sharp (serrations) and accuracy is not enough to make a difference. That being said, I have 10 years more working with the G19 so obviously there will be some bias however, having said that this CZ seems to be a winner if you're looking for a glock like gun fit with thinner grip and better trigger. Especially if you are running Glocks for their reliability but struggling with the trigger/grip.

While I won't be carrying this any time soon I am looking forward to using it in a few upcoming classes. There is definitely potential to this gun and if it proves to be as reliable as my G19 I'd definitely carry it

It is however a very good gun and very competitively priced at $475 with 2 mags. Extra mags are around $30 - $35 and +2 base plates are also available.

Great review. Thanks for taking the time.

If I might make a suggestion, maybe embellish the review with a pic of the gun?

Lol I know. I didn't want to take a pic at the range because the guns are black, the table is black, the lighting isn't great. But then I left and went straight to a friends then to take care of a few things and completely forgot about additional pictures. They're coming though.

By the way the CZ does fit perfectly in my Galco King Tuck, Galco summer comfort and some gun show kydex holster all made for the G19

picture time

Glock on top.
As you can see they are very close in size.

CZ up front

Glock has a thinner beaver tail but CZ's is a hair longer

Slide size is about the same

CZ mag is a little taller but thinner as well. Both hold 15 rounds

Grip texture

If you notice it has memory pad above the trigger and take down is identical to Glock. Also visible are the ambidextrous slide release/stop and mag release

Frames. Glock on the left

Slides Glock on the left

Barrels. Glock on the left

CZ on the left

It's hard to tell but the CZ chamber is slightly tighter. Not a lot but in the second picture you can see the cartridge sticks out more from the CZ when you simply slide the bullet in without any added force.

Glock spring is a hair shorter and on the left. Springs look almost identical

Thanks for the comparison. My favorite Glock is my 26. If CZ comes out with a sub compact to compete I may have to have one.

The CZ barrel chamber is much beefier and more heavy duty than the Glock. Also, the front of the slide where the RSA is inserted, the CZ is also a lot thicker. I shoot better wtih the CZ because it is thinner and fits my hand better but still needs a flat face trigger

True but it doesn't exactly cause problems with Glocks

I'm a huge fan of CZ, but for some reason this gun just doesn't fill me with that much confidence. Read a bunch of problems over on the CZ forum, will wait to see if it improves.

Another 200 rounds today (along with the new Shield). The trigger is smoothing out nicely. Right now gun has around 600 rounds. The mag release is still a little stiff. Not really happy with that because of how I'm used to activating it but hopefully it will continue to smooth out. I am however extremely happy with the accuracy.

At 12 yards 100 rounds!!!!!!

I had one failure. Failure to go into battery. I extracted the round and continued shooting. Next mag I used that same round with same results. Tried chambering that round several more times with same results. It was the only round to have this problem so I assume it was out of spec. All other ammo from 2 different manufacturers functioned perfectly
