Oh My Gosh!!! I just realized that I collect.......
..... single shot shotguns!!
With the acquisition of two more 12 gauges on Saturday, a Fulton Arms Co. & W.H. Davenport ( both made by Davenport) that are circa 1900, and a circa 1920 Mississippi Valley Arms Co. (Crescent Firearms) 12 Ga. from an local antiques auction this afternoon. I did a count in the gun safe. There are TEN of them! They include every gauge from .410 Bore to 10 Ga.
How did this happen??? Not another collecting mania!! I need professional help!!
Best,
Charles

Just to clarify...... I said TEN single shot shotguns. That didn't take into account the SxS doubles, Pumps (not the shoes.... ) and an Over/Under.

funny but you are not..
I interested in all types of firearms across the spectrum. I was also convinced that I collect guns.
Only here I learned that I do not collect guns. I accumulate them with out any type of strategy or goals just by pure interest and attraction, thereby I am called an accumulator in the gun world.
So let to accumulating continue, I love it and I don't care what it's called.
I started with an over under shotgun for bird hunting and just installed framing inside the safe so the shelves won't collaps.

I can't remember having traded or sold a firearms for less than what I paid for it. I have not seen this work very well with shoes or handbags.

ONE shotgun is enough, the rest should be sold to fund additional S&W revolver purchases. Pick one shotgun to keep, they are all look alike: oversize barrel, awkward stock, action that is too heavy, dispose of the others at best price.

I don't believe I own a single shot shotgun! I have 4 SxS's, 8 O/U's, 2 auto loaders, 5 pumps (I would look ridiculous in those shoes!) & 3 combo guns. I consider it a very nice hodge podge of an accumulation!
I did miss a H&R Topper 2 weeks ago by 5 minutes. It had a 22 Hornet and a 20 gauge barrels for it so it would have fit in nicely with the single shot rifles and the shotguns. I saw it across the store, in the hands of a 15 year friend, I knew he would never set it down! (we are both nuts about 22 Hornet!)
I started each of my sons with a single shot 20 gauge, The first got a slightly used Savage, the other two got new H&R's. It is very hard to go wrong having a closetful of shotguns! I just wish I had more closet space to fill up!

Wait, you keep single shot guns in a safe? I suggest over the fireplace, by each exterior door, in the bedroom, and in the barn, like God intended.

I only have three single shot shotguns. One of those is a 22/410 over under. Does that count. I have some pumps but they are shoes. I'm thinking of putting them in the gun safe.

Some great posts in this thread! Sadly, the casino 64s said they do not associate with single barrel shotguns and would resent having to share a safe with them!

Good for you! It's fun to narrow on a particular category, model, and variant. I was into collecting Colt 1911's and then that moved to 3" S&W's. Now, I have a bug to collect early Winchester lever actions and Savage 99s. Best, TH

I had a single shot shotgun, the first several years that I hunted birds.
I believe the single shot makes us better shooters. Later graduated to
a Winchester automatic. I think is was a model 50?
My Dad always hunted with a single shot 12-Ga. but later in life he
too graduated to a Browning automatic.

When there is no more room for another gun in the safe then you know you have a collection which may or may not be a problem. If you have to buy another safe then you have a serious gun collection/addiction.

I just collect safes, then try to fill them up with a little bit of everything. I am really challenged on single shot shotguns. I only have two, a Winchester model 36 9mm rimfire and a Winchester model 41 bolt action .410. I also have my old model 12s.
