Default A New Knife Arrived Today

I ordered a new Spyderco Manbug Salt Rescue knife from Midway USA on August 23rd. I did not need it, but I noticed it online during a quick sale and realized I'd never be able to buy a new one cheaper than right then, and I had been wanting one.

I received rapid email confirmation of the order and then shipment via UPS/USPS hybrid shipment. Final delivery by USPS was scheduled for Tuesday 8/29. I am patient and free shipping was part of my calculation and reasoning to justify the purchase in the first place.

I followed the shipment online as a bit of a storm moved into my area. The tracking system basically stopped with UPS saying they had notified and had given the shipment to USPS and the USPS saying they had been notified of the shipment but were not in receipt of it. This came about at the time of a significant weather event moving into the greater southeast Texas region, and I just hoped wherever that little knife was it was secure and would find it's way to me.

Yesterday I started to gather the details, because I knew my credit card statement is forthcoming this weekend. I was planning to contact Midway with the facts and dispute the bill if needed.

Early this morning I noticed UPS now showed package delivered. Then I started to get emails from the USPS detailing the packages progress for the final steps to my home. It arrived after lunch. Deliveries get delayed for good reasons at times.

During Harvey I chose to carry a fully serrated Spyderco Endura 4 and a Spyderco Ladybug Salt Hawkbill key-chain knife. These are get down and dirty cutting tools. I've got a key-ring for the new Manbug, but I'm not sure if I should put keys or a beer bottle opener on the ring.

I buy and use the knives I like, not necessarily the best knives out there, but I have my reasons.

All nice knives (or knifes, as some would say). I really like Spydercoes (or Spyderco's, as some would say).

I like Benchmade, Buck, and CRKT but I've heard so many good things about Spyderco (have a few buddies who swear by them) that I'm strongly considering adding one to my small collection soon.

The new little knife is neat, but I really wanted to point out how I bought it and its delivery. There has been so much bad said about the private carrier/USPS final delivery, I wanted to write a true story about a delivery that turned out well during a difficult time. If I had to pay $6 more for better delivery, I would not have ordered it. If I had paid $6 more for better delivery, I doubt it would have arrived any earlier. I like MidwayUSA and Spyderco knives. Now if I can just learn that I have enough knives.

I hate the UPS to USPS transition. Usually adds a day or two extra and the postal lady smokes. Things double bagged reek of stale cigarettes. And UPS is at my house most every single day for personal and work shipments. I've noticed the past couple times UPS has just dropped it off like a regular package instead of transferring to post office.

Cool knife and glad it seems that you came through the 'storm' safely.

Recently, I've gone old school. A couple of Buck knives are back in my good graces, a Ranger 112 or more recently, a Duke. No pocket clip, one handed opening, or serrated blade. Just a good, solid tool that will handle pretty much any cutting job I encounter. And they look good too.

Salts are NO-JOKE rust-free. I'd sweated all over them, and left them alone. Used them on bloody cuts of meat, and cut citrus also. Not a problem. They are quite readily sharpened on the 40-degree setting of a Spyderco SharpMaker kit.

Hurricane Harvey delayed me about three weeks in getting my newest high capacity tactical assault knife set up for action the way I like. Here it is morning with its own set of house keys, and posing with its siblings. From bottom to top Spyderco Ladybug Hawkbill Salt with H-1 rustproof steel, Ladybug serrated VG-10 stainless steel, Manbug sheepsfoot Saver Salt H-1 steel, and at the top a Manbug flat grind with HAP-40/SUS410 laminated steel. The key rings and keys make these little knives fit my big hands. These are very capable knives, and I am hooked on them.

I like at least 4" blade knives, I have only one below that, and not by much. I also like assist open or quik open knives. I collect bowie knives, as well. I have no use for tiny knives. To each, his own.

Nice knives,i'm like that it doesn't matter how much a knife cost to me,if I want to buy a cheap knife or spend good money for them. I like what I like!

The little key chain knives are handy for opening packaging and basic small chores. Today I used one to open shipping packing and the blister pack for a Spyderco Sharpmaker triangle sharpening set that Fed Ex delivered.

Since I almost always have my house keys on me, having a quality handy knife attached to the keys means I almost always have a knife on me. When I venture outside of my home I supplement the <2" knife with either a Spyderco Delica <3" or a Spyderco Endura <4". I have 6 Delicas and 4 Enduras with various blade configurations and steels. I have a Spyderco Dragonfly (~2") too. That brings my collection of user grade Spyderco FRN lightweight knives to 15. I have a few other brands that date back decades, but I try not to get hooked on other brands now.

I'm adore these little knives. I assure you the funds spent on these knives could have paid for a smaller assortment of bigger or more expensive knives. I find the quality, cost, usefulness, and value of these knives compelling, and at $35 to $100 each I buy when I think they are neat and absorb the cost in my beer budget if I have to.

Next month I hope to get a limited edition Delica with full flat ground blade of CPM S30V steel with a unique yellow/green FRN handle. A great US designed knife, made by a Japanese contractor for a US company, using US steel.

I think folks around here understand this type of compulsion.
