It's fine; I'm not in dire need of a bowie knife and I got it mostly because I wanted to have one in my collection. But I do wonder if these are still hard working tools. I do plan to put mine in the sheath and carry it occasionally.

They 're pretty big, heavy, and clumsy, but work.
Knife editor Ken Warner told of one that killed a wounded deer with one stroke. Went through one antler and into the skull.
If you're wondering which Randall to get for use, try Model 5 with five or six inch blade, silver guard/hilt, and black Micarta handle. The Aluminum pommel is in order for blades over six inches, for balance reasons. I'd drill the pommel for a wrist thong.
If you like a lighter knife or a more curved blade, try Model 7.

When you get to be my age you won't want to order something promised 5 years later ...

I always wanted a Randall knife when I was a teenager, but I could not afford one. Then. many years later, I was eating breakfast and trying to read the newspaper. As I turned the pages past the want ads, one ad jumped up and punched me in the eye. "Randall knife $75" I called the number and told him that he just sold the knife to me. I called my work to tell them I would be a little late, grabbed some cash that I kept for emergencies, and I bought the knife. It is a Model 16. It was originally owned by a GI in Vietnam. The knife had too many bad memories.
I have bought one from Randall with a long wait. I have bought several from dealers and from auctions. I thought about ordering something special from Randall for my son, but I'll probably drop dead from old age before the knife arrives, and my son will get my collection anyhow.

Randalls are the greatest knives in human history.
Worth EVERY SECOND of the wait.
But then again, a $35 Buck 110 will do 100% what a Randall can, at a tiny fraction of the cost with 0 wait. But they are nearly useless to brag about on internet forums, hence their inferiority.

That's a really nice knife. Model 1, Commando handle? Blade length?
I'd have ordered stainless, but each to his own.

Model 1 7” commando handle carbon steel.
If you want a 7” stainless model 1 I think you are better off with a model 16 special fighter.
Here are the ones I bought while I was waiting for mine to come in. Lol.
A #1-8”, A Buxton fighter border patrol, #16 Special fighter finger groove.
