A little Ruger help if you please
Got a chance to pick up a NM Blackhawk, 41mag from 1976. It's blued, 4 & 5/8" with factory wood and the only wear is the turn ring. I'm thinking all in around $400?

Sounds good to me. I'd buy one like you described for $400.

That's a fair price, post a picture if you get it.

I believe I would have to have it at that price.

Ditto: That's a fair price for that Blackhawk as described.

Thanks for the replies. Would you go any higher? I'm figuring a brand new one with plastic/rubber stocks would run me about $540-$550. Not sure if there is anything that would make the older one more desirable or not?

If it was really clean and I really had to have it I might go $450. Maybe. Or I might walk.

I wouldn't buy it at all since I outgrew single action revolvers about the time the one you're looking at was built.
However, $400-450 is a good price if it's something you like.
I'd be more interested in a 1976 model than a new one.
Ammo is an issue if you don't reload: limited selection not widely available.

Thanks, it'll be my third .41 if I get it so ammo hasn't been an issue for awhile.

Wait...what?
I didn't know that was even possible!
I'd easily pay $400. That is the exact model my dad had when I was a kid, and I started shooting when I was 11.
Ruger single-actions keep climbing in price!

$400 doesn't sound bad for a .41. Occasionally they can be found for a shade under that as cost/availability limits .41 popularity (although an excellent cartridge).

Considering the condition, if I was in the market for another Blackhawk I'd be very happy with $400 plus tax and buy it a $450 plus tax.
Like S&W Ruger no longer actually blues guns. What both now sell as bluing are entirely different finishes. S&W's looks more like real bluing but is removed by Hoppie's #9. Ruger's looks more like dull flat paint. That alone makes an excellent condition 1976 blued S&W or Ruger more valuable than a new one to me. Also, Ruger quit making blued hammers and triggers reducing their inventory to only stainless parts. Since grips can be replaced it is a lessor issue but plow handles were designed to dissipate recoil by rolling in your hand. Checkered grips contradict the design.
Now I should shut up before I'm called grouchy.

Many Rugers made in 1976 had the US Bicentennial marking. If this one does, it would add some appeal to me personally. Even without it, I think $400 is a fair price. I have an older three screw Blackhawk with the 6.5 inch barrel that I purchased new in the early 1960s. Always wished I'd got the shorter tube as the long one has been inconvenient for a small guy like myself to carry.

I was going to say about the same thing. I do know Ruger collectors place a premium on guns with the "Made in the 200th Year" stamping.

Thanks again for the replies. This one has that barrel marking, something along the lines of "manufactured in the 200th year of American Liberty" or something close to that.

Cool, they are known as "Liberty Models". I wouldn't pass that up unless I already had that barrel length. As you already own some .41 Magnums I don't have to tell you what a great cartridge it is.
