Default Garage sale find

My garage-sale-addict wife texted me this picture. I didn't text, but called her back right away and yelled "grab those grips on the bottom right!"

$5. Guess I won't give her such a hard time about it anymore.

The last Colt DA I owned was a MK V and that was traded off about 15 years ago, so what exactly do I have here?

In the later 70's gold medallions started to appear on other Colt models and by the mid 80's all models had gold medallions. The MKIII was produced until 1983.

Two years ago I paid 12 bucks for a set just like those. I auctioned them on ebay, and they sold for $176!

I love it when that happens!

I thought about having her snag that as well. I may go back tomorrow and see if it's still there.

They look like Diamondback grips because of the forward rake of the bottom of the grip.

Python grips of the 3rd gen, (which they are not, I don't believe) have the checkering in a straight line under the medallions.

I think Trooper MK III, as noted by our Canadian friend 824tsv.
And as noted in a later post, the once definitive identity of gold medallions to only Pythons in the Colt revolver line-up is no longer;.. although Pythons are not known to ever have factory "silver" meds.

I gotta get out to some garage sales if that's what's to be found.

"What exactly do I have here?"........Easy, a set of Colt grips that will sooner or later turn into a complete revolver. And the best part? You can blame it on your excellent wife!

They are not shaped right to be for a Python. I would say a Trooper would be more like them. I would have bought the grips and also the holster.
Around here any gun stuff is sold in the first 5 minutes of the yard or garage sale. People are waiting in line for the sale to open just to check for guns and other good stuff.

The closest I ever came to that in a garage sale was some old Italian 45 APC for $25 for fifty. No bargain at the time. Good find whatever it came from, congratulations!

I think I would head back to that sale and make a bulk purchase of all the gun stuff (looks like there might be more at the edges of the picture). Good snag on those grips.

Nice score. I usually run through neighborhoods on Saturday mornings and when I see a big yard sale I'll ask if they have any firearm accessories and sometimes get lucky, but mostly weird looks. Anyway, I agree, those are for the Trooper MK III.

Here's a picture showing the straight line checkering under the medallion. I, too, am fairly certain that your grips are not for a Python. But you certainly got the better deal - I paid twice what you paid!

That means they would've fit a Peacekeeper I sold off years ago.

Oh well, checkered walnut would've been wasted on a Parkerized finish.

She also snagged this old German M&P holster. Seller told her it was for a P08, but that's BS. More likely a PPK or Smaller Mauser:

Regarding the grips, mostly opined as Colt Trooper MK III.
If you decide to ask your wife to go back out next week and find a gun they fit; ((she seems like she may capable of such )), you can broaden the Colt models they should fit.

After looking at the in-letting pattern you pictured, I believe you can use in addition to a Trooper MK III, a Lawman MK III up to about 1977.
The early Lawman MK III would correctly have silver meds, but even so...
While the fit on the following two is not certain; I think also an Officers Model Match, and a Colt's metropolitan.

Your flap holster very much favors those used with the "F N Browning 1889" . The compact size.
