Winchester Star 10 gauge wood ammo box
Any ideas on this one? I have never seen a 10 gauge box for Star. And comments would be appreciated.

Do you have the lid for it? It appears to be a nice old vintage box that'd be even nicer with the lid.
I wouldn't have any idea how old it is, though.

In the late 19th Century, Winchester did offer a "Star" brand shotshell, but I have no detailed information about them. I do know that boxes of "Star" shells are very rare and very, very valuable, but I have no idea as to the value of an original wood shipping crate. I would not surprised to find out it could be worth much more than you might imagine. I suggest you post it on the International Ammunition Association's website for more informed opinions, as you are very likely to get some there. That's where all the big-time ammo collectors hang out. I have a very similar 19th Century UMC 10 gauge wood shipping crate, but yours is in much better condition than mine.

I saw your posting on the IAA forum. My knowledge of the Star brand seems to be about the same as Fede's (who responded). Surprising, as Fede (an Argentine) is probably one of the world's foremost cartridge collectors who has an encyclopedic knowledge of almost everything having to do with ammunition.

Thanks Dwalt. I bought this at a local sale because I have never seen a 10 gauge before. I just buy things that catch my eye and then try to gain knowledge on these items. Not for resale value because I have it in my outdoor room displaying it already. Thanks for the help.

I found this:
W.R.A. Co., Star,, 1884-1894 (10 and 12 ga only)
You probably already had that info already from the collectors but thought I'd pass it along.
