39a, i might have broken a speed record today
getting my bill fold out
was offered this 1939, case hardened marlin 39a serial number 16xx this morning for a very decent price,
I love old marlins
wood fit is perfect, no extra holes, no cracks, all original, closet queen, now just going to give it a thorough cleaning

Your local mini-mart sells antique Marlins?
Very nice! I’m jealous.

Very nice, indeed.
One of my favorite shooters is a Marlin Golden 39A Mountie. It was a gift from a deceased friend which makes it all the more special. Just a pleasure to shoot:
I recently added the basic 4x scope to help sighting.
Good luck with your Marlin.

I got one also a few months ago.
Mine's a 1956 version.
Great rifle, and accurate.
It came with a scope which is a good thing because I can't see much without it.

ky-wonder:
You scored BIG TIME!!!!! That Marlin is in excellent condition for it's age (assuming it has not been re-finished). My FAV. all around .22
is the Marlin 39A built before they "improved it" (not) in the 80's. They are pretty much bullet proof and I love the fact that it is a full sized rifle built for an adult. Since it's the longest production rifle in history there are tons of parts and accessories too. ENJOY!!!

shes a shooter, took out this afternoon and let her eat some cci standard velocity stuff, she was picking walnuts out of a tree with ease at 50 yards
added some more photos,
I was offered a Blue 98+% colt 4" 38 diamondback even trade for it this afternoon, but I just could not let it go, there are several nice diamond backs out there very few of these early 39a's

That 22 is not replaceable. Not for a Colt. Not for nothing. Not for money. Keep it. Shoot it.

Can't beat those old 39's. I have a 39 first variation that was unfortunately rebarreled prior to 1955 but man is it a shooter. Same goes for my '54 Mountie and my '72 39M. Here's all 3 in a family pic.

They even have that stupid safety for $3200. They got to be kidding.
Mine is 12 years newer than the OP’s and I would not trade it for one of the new ones.

A magnificent find of a classic and beautiful 39A. Little wonder that you broke a speed record getting your cash out!

OP that us a beautiful rifle! I've never seen one with a color case hardened receiver.
I agree about old rifles; I have nine leverguns, five of which are Marlins, the one that seems to be the best fit and finished is a 1953 336SC (Sporting Carbine) chambered in .32 Winchester Special that I inherited from my Dad in 2003.
