I think that would be a great sight for stationary targets. It won't be SASS leagle!
I had a Williams replacement rear sight on my SKS that is a peep sight. Helped out to 200 yards. You wouldn't think a barrel mounted peep sight would work as well as they do.

I've got a Marble's tang sight on a Navy/Rossi 92 Short Rifle (it was a gift from a forum member): it sure does work well.
