Default Krieghoff KX5 (pictures added)

My local gun store has a very nice 34 inch Kreighoff KX5 for sale with the original America case and implements. It also has an adjustable comb and adjustable butt piece on it. The store owner told me awhile back he would take $2700 for it even though it's marked with $3299 on it. Trap is my favorite of the clay sports and this gun would be an excellent choice for that sport. My wife will never let me spend that kind of money on a gun. I would have to put down a deposit and make payments in order for it to work without her finding out. I just do not know if the deal is good enough for the amount of risk on my end. Does anybody else own and shoot one of these guns? How do you like it? I know they came out with a KX6 version making the KS5 and kx5 an obsolete version. It is a single barrel trap gun so no adding sets of other dual barrels is not possible. What does the knowledgeable people on here think about my situation?

If the gun is in good condition, that isn't much lower than a Browning BT99+. You should be able to shoot it for many years and still sell it for more than you paid for it. Only question is parts aren't quite as easy to find as Browning parts are if any repairs are needed.

The older Krieghoffs have become in great demand, the newest models are of a design and materials that cause more felt recoil! Between Krieghoff and Kolher, you can rebuild that gun for to or three lifetimes!

I bought a lot of guns, the wife didn't know about, I paid for them with money the wife didn't know about either. Now that I'm basically retired, I sell off one or three guns to pay for a "new" one. A while back I sold 5 rifles, That paid off my Credit card balance, Paid for the last three trimesters of college and gave me walking around/gas money for 6 months. (now I'm down to 1 target 22 and 5 very nice sporters!)

I write lists of my favorite guns (this changes over the years) and list of least favorite (this changes often!) I use the least favorite to fund possible new favorites, and helps create more space in the limited storage safe.

KX5 cocks by pushing the top lever to open the action. Not for everyone especially if you have arthritis in your hands or do not have good hand strength. 32 inch barreled gun will not and do not sell well in today's market where 34 inch barreled guns are more sought after. Single barrel only design is fine as long as you do not plan on shooting doubles. Allot of very good over and under shotguns out there in that price range that will do singles, handicap, doubles, and any other shotgun game you want to try.

Problem in my mind is because I shoot trap mostly I do not want to not use the other 8 shotguns I own. 2 are specifically for trap a Remington classic trap 870 and Mossberg 500 apt with the 30 inch Simmons high Olympic ribbed barrel. I have 2 autoloaders matching set 12 gauge and 20 gauge. And 2 overunders that are cheaper with 28 inch barrels and bunches of Carlson extended chokes for them I really like. And 2 long barrel but more tactical. So I am covered on all the other clay sports just afraid they are going to just collect dust if I buy a Mac daddy Kreighoff. Maybe I will go talk to him see if he will come down to $2500 on the price. The gun is in great shape a few Knicks in wood on butt , the lever is pretty far to the right. Looks hardly used with a pull trigger.

Two KX5's for sale at the club here. Both over 3k. I have a DB81 in the basement, been there for around 20 years. I shoot an 11-87 trap for those 20 years. Lots of rounds through it.

I did competition American Skeet and some Sporting Clays for a number of years and a Perazzi Mirage with full length tubes was my shotgun of choice mainly for it's build quality and removable trigger.I had 2 extra sets of triggers.I had Perazzi in Rome New York craft a custom stock and forend.

Every time I'd fly with it I'd insure it for $10,000 just so the airline would take better care of it.

Well if they are still going for 3k and over I think I'm going to talk to him. The story was a man from Europe owned the gun and brought it to Florida with him and did not like it. He decided to sell it to the gun shop rather than bring it back to Europe with him. I am probably never going to get another chance to buy a gun of this caliber and being they know me pretty well at the gun shop may allow me to just make payments.

As dave1981a2 states above, "JUST MAKE SURE IT FITS YOU". I know people that regularly bust 25 straight with off the shelf 870 field guns, but with a simple correction to the stock to make sure it Fits.

Well here is the Krieghoff update. It was not in the shop last week and showed back up this week. It had been sitting there for many weeks and on one of my many visits there I had taken a quick look at it. It was then the store owner said he would sell it for $2700. Apparently some fellow put a deposit on it last week and his wife gave him the big NO WAY. He returned for his deposit and back on the shelf it went. Looking at it today with the original americase and tools the owner said "its a good deal at $2500" So that sealed the deal and I told him I will have to make some payments on it, he said no problem. It will probably take me a month or 2 to finally pay it off and get it, to take some pictures to post here. Will be MY Krieghoff KX5 soon enough. as it is adjusted right now felt great so I am sure with some fine tuning it will fit me like a glove!

Put a deposit down and got some pictures. I did not realize it has a gracoil system on it. The length of pull felt pretty good but I may need to get a thicker kick eez pad for a little more length.

Sorry I came to this so late. If possible, can you have a gunsmith check it out for any work done on the choke and/or chamber. A lot of trapshooters make all sorts of alterations to the bbl's interior which in most cases will devalue the gun. It should measure up to original specs. If not, you could try it out and if you like it make sure you get it at a very large discount. In any event you would be wise to have any used gun of that quality checked for safety before you buy. In contrast an 870 or 1100 is not as risky to buy used since you can replace the bbl with a new one for very little money.

One of those guns that the Lover of high quality shotguns...has fun simply using it. I have a K-80 SC gun, set up with tubes for skeet, 20/28/.410. I enjoy it every time I take it out.

Congratulations, nice KX5!

Thanks guys. I will enjoy using and taking care of this premium gun. Frank237 I really like your avatar, your dog just like mine. Now to just keep scraping up cash to get it paid off. The suspense is killing me. Been watching videos how to adjust the gracoil for l.o.p. cast and drop. Downloaded manual to read everything about from adjusting trigger weight and lop and adjusting comb up down and sideways, adjusting rib for poa etc. The fine adjustments available on this gun are just endless. Can not wait to get it fitting perfect!

Just don't get discouraged the first time you take it out and don't break as many birds. Every new gun needs a little "break in" time (for the shooter).

I'd suggest getting someone at Your Club who is competent at stock fitting...to assist. My Ljutic single barrel has an adjustable comb and you can get adjusting and do more harm than good.

Maybe visit one of the Shotgun/Trap shooting sites could be a good idea? See what they say there on adjustments.
