Default KAHRS

Overall I like the higher end metal ones. Most mfgr's make guns from top of the line (most expensive) to the lower end (least expensive). You can't expect a bottom of the line to compare with their best. The PM9 I had was a great 9mm pocket pistol. Not the easiest to disassemble, nor a very long life expectancy (IMO), if I had bought the all metal version I might still have it.

When you sell guns you are on the receiving end 1st line with
complaints and problems. If you are smart you don't stock them.
The profit vs head aches is not worth it. With QC at a all time
low even the reliable old brands are questionable today. Any item
that is massed produced will have lemons and cherries. The cause will run from materials, machining to assembly. Most 2nd
rate guns suffer from material and design which reflects durability
which a lot of them don't have.

A lot of people love to hate Kimbers. I received a commander length as an anniversary gift from the Mrs. and it's been 100%. It's got a nice trigger also.

Doesn't look too bad either.

Default AND THEN THERE'S THIS.

Anything I own is a better gun than anything you own, Particularly with guns the haters can't afford / or aren't willing to pony up the $. (BTW I AINT RICH) This may explain much of the Taurus/Keltec/Bersa lovers and Kimber haters??? I remember scrimping & saving for my first Sig, a German p226 that a co worker said was inferior to HIS Ruger 9mm semi.

Remington R51. Always compared unfavorably to the original version. For the money it's a well made carry pistol that will handle 9 +p ammo.
Will concede that field stripping this thing quickly takes some practice and strong fingers. OTOH, the Pedersen action works as advertised with an easy to rack slide, low bore axis, and moderate recoil.

I bought a LC9 -- the original hammer fired version.

At the time I bought it, everyone on the Internet raved about it.

Then it fell out of favor and most posters said it had a terrible trigger.

Ruger came out with the LC9s, and from then on everyone was dumping their LC9's for a fraction of what they cost. Ruger even had a trade in program for LC9 owners to move to the LC9s.

I found it hard to shoot, so my LC9 went into the back of my safe and stayed there.

Anyway, it turns out that after a few years of shooting double action revolvers, I found the LC9 wasn't so hard to shoot after all.

In fact, I like the original LC9 for what it is: A reliable, short range, defense gun which is very safe to carry.

Although I've never been mocked for it, I guess my Model 49 J frame would qualify as the red-headed stepchild in my safe.

Any gun I own is my gun, I don't give a hoot about snobs, or haters. I could not care less what gun others have, or their opinions. I will congratulate a person that spends 50 bucks for their pride, and joy just as much if they spent 50 grand. It is just more fun to poke fun at those that spent so much money just so they can feel their gun is better.

Default I must be a hated person...

It appears I have most of the ones hated here... I feel un-loved...lol
Ruger... yes Kimber... yes Kahr... yes... Taurus... lots... I even hit the trifecta with one of my Tauri... it is a model 99... a Beretta 92 clone pretending to be a target model... happens to be my first centerfire pistol... shot competition with it for decades... no concept of round count... well over 10k... maybe 15k... more... not sure... I also have a Hi-point... a couple of "zinc" pocket guns... BUT even though I have all these hated machines and enjoy them completely... I am here on this site for a reason... and my collection of S&W's would make quite a few feel bad about their own collection... but why would anyone spend any effort hating anything I or anyone has in their collection... I am not trying to convince you to buy them... or forcing you to walk around in public showing them... they are mine and you can't have them... there are things to worry about in life... but what someone else has and likes is not one of those things... some people only feel superior because they spent more... some because they own more... haters gunna hate... and small minds usually shout the loudest... it is a shame they can't keep there fingers off the keyboard... but maybe this is the only way they can feel any power in life... anonymous and free from actually having to back anything up with facts or real experience... I feel sad for those that can't get out of their comfort zones and really enjoy all the world has to offer... done with soapbox... enjoy all the redheaded stepchildren and ignore the people with small minds...

I just came into possession of a Glock 27/.357Sig and I love it. I actually got the ported barrel in a trade and decided to pick up a 27 to convert. I’ve got several other .357’s (all sigs), and the Glock holds it’s own. I even started a thread on it:

There was a gun writer back in the 90's who wrote a book about .45 automatics. His research entailed visiting rental gun ranges around the country that kept records about round counts and parts breakage. He gathered all the data, compared all the .45 automatics, and found that the Ruger P90 was, by a huge margin, the .45 pistol that had the most rounds through it with the least amount of parts breakage. The gun writer concluded that the Ruger P90 is not only the best .45 auto you could buy, but *the best handgun you could buy*.

There are other gun writers who wrote similar things about the homely P90. My own experience confirms these endorsements. I love my P90, even though folks turn their noses up at Ruger's auto loaders.
I’ve had a couple over the years and I have to agree with you. It’s a fantastic pistol. I wish I still had them and I’m always on the lookout for a used one. Massad Ayoob is a huge fan of the Ruger P90 and what better endorsement do you need?

Glad you had good experiences with your P90's too.

I have a weird relationship with mine. While mine is the 'special edition', with a blued slide and grey frame, it doesn't feel 'special'. Open Carrying my blued Colt 1991A1, or my Inox Beretta with rosewood panels, these guns have a sort of 'special' feel.

But the P90 is...just there. It's just a .45 acp chucker that I know will *always* work no matter what. Sometimes that's all I need.

My EDC (also pocket carrying) for several years before the Shield came out was the PF-9. Everyone I knew, that knew I carried it called it a P0S, until they saw how well I could shoot it. 90%+ of those who had/have FTEs have recoil control issues with it (USUALLY due to the 3" barrel & 14oz weight) and once they re-evaluate their grip and trigger finger placement find that their problems disappear. (same as some who have Low/Left issues with the Shield have found )

The only reason I traded it for the Shield, was the difference in my perceived recoil. Shooting the PF-9, I only make it through 25-30 rounds before I need to quit, while (for me) the Shield is an 'All Day Shooter'.

I have an early Kimber 45 match target. It may be some folks hate Kimber because it shoots better than us.....

Black semi auto rifles in 5.56.

Pythons, I've owned plenty when they were not so expensive. Great shooters and one was my long time duty gun.

Taurus has to be the most hated. I have two; one pistol and one revolver. Both have been completely reliable and reasonably accurate. The pistol, A 609 Pro, was my carry gun until the lawsuit over the possibility that it might not be drop safe. I no longer carry it out of an abundance of caution, but it has never let me down. I still shoot it about every time I go, and I still like shooting it. By my best estimate it has over 15,000 rounds through it and still going strong. When it breaks (and I'm sure it will one day-everything does eventually) I'll send it in, and Taurus will probably replace it with a brand new 111 G2. At least that's what they seem to be doing for others who send them in.

The wheel gun has a lot less rounds through it, maybe 2500 or so. It's got a nice smooth and relatively light trigger in both double and single action, and it too has never failed.

Will I buy another Taurus? Yeah, I might eventually. There are just so many other things I want more right now, though.

Well, I have owned two (2) that probably belong in this thread.

A RG model 10 as well as the Raven model MP-25.

Was given the RG, sold it for $10.00.

Sold the Raven, cannot recall how much, know it wasn't much.

I will agree with an earlier post, the Raven never jammed.

Maybe I have been fortunate or perhaps dense, but I don't seem to own anything on anyones "hate" list. I may have received a frown or two, but I never let it register. My handguns are varied:
Smith & Wesson - mostly revolvers and a 439
Colt (I hear the hisses) - Trooper MKIII and a Government Model
Springfield Armory - Trophy Match
Ruger - 1911 CMD
Mauser HSc (380) ... I know, a 380 is "under powered"
ATI FX9 Commander ... yup, made in the Philippines, not American made

All of my handguns are mission specific. I don't collect just for the sake of accumulation.

I will admit to once owning a Llama minimax 45 1911 imitation, couldn't reliably feed anything but 230 grain fmj ammo. Also owned an RG revolver in .38 special, that thing was a total junker.

Mauser HSc from the Interarms years - lots of complaints about the .380 version, but both of mine work fine and are great looking as well.

I hate the Governors. I also hate all those trash guns from the 90's that people only bought so they could pretend to be Miami drug dealers. I'm pretty much fine with everything else. But if you can take a deer with a matchlock I am not going to laugh at you no matter what silly guns own.

Beretta 92FS. I love the 92FS/M9 series, but for the last several years it has become the internet forum gun whipping boy. People always compare it to the Glock 17 and mention its shortcomings. Of course the equally great P226 seems to get a pass. The Glock is good gun, and has served many policemen and citizens well over the years. It also passes many of the "YouTube torture tests". I love my Glock 20!

But the Beretta 92 has served well since 1975. Much like the 1911 and Hi Power, the 92 has been used by good people to kill bad people in many far away lands in conditions not seen on American streets. And the 92 looks good doing it!

I started to mention Kahr. It seems I've read some "stuff" about them, maybe not here, but on other boards.

I bought a CW 45 not too long ago. I haven't gotten around to shooting it yet, but man that thing is comfortable in my hand, and I really like the trigger.

In terms of handguns, my Sig Mosquito gets the most zings.

I forgot about Rohm. I have a Rohm 63 revolver in .22 lr. Western style, double action. It was my first handgun, back in 1972. It looked great and the price seemed great at $27.50 IIRC. Nobody told me they were junk. I never had any problems with it, except sometimes it wouldn't fire in double action and the screw that holds the ejector shroud in place keeps coming loose. LOL.

Okay, so it is a POJ, and I haven't fired it since the early 80's.

Ooh! Ooh! Heritage Rough Rider! Mine is a ton of fun, never had a single problem with it. I'm told it's pot-metal junk.

Here's a few more candidates, good and bad:

1. Taurus Raging Bull in 454=quite nice actually. Ported. Sold it when I got my custom Reeder.
2. Small Beretta tip-up= also nice except mine was 22 SHORT.
3. High Standard Sentinel=Nice little 22 for the trail.
4. Taurus 85-***.
5. S & W Model 18=Jammamatic.
6. S & W Escort=Handles are almost always cracked-reliable with only one brand of ammo.
7. S & W 29 4"==Very uncomfortable to shoot--tore up the web of my hand!

Getting picky now.............

BTW: My G27 (357 Sig) is one of my most accurate handguns==just behind my Gold Cup and S & W 25-2.

Mostly own Smiths.
Have owned a bunch of guns including a number mentioned as ‘Hated.’
What am I looking for right now?
Got the itch for a Birdhead Revolver.
38/357.
And- don’t like guns that don’t properly function.
Such as -
Llama Omni III was a 9 mm parabellum pistol with a double stack 13-round magazine, however the first five rounds fed into the action in a single column to reduce the likelihood of jamming. Another feature was the two-piece ball-jointed firing pin, which was designed to never break. Additionally the Omni had dual sear bars for improved trigger pull; a trigger safety; finger-contoured trigger guard and a decocking manual safety lever. The wealth of features meant the Omni was an expensive pistol to make compared to previous models, and together with its radical appearance, this discouraged commercial sales. Production of the Omni therefore ceased in 1986.

If the double Sears aren’t absolutely correctly adjusted and aligned, they get into each other’s way!
The expensive price probably slowed down the sales, but the malfunctioning was the death toll.

I'd like to know too. How would the Model 18 be any different than the Model 17? I've not heard this before.

People seem to really dislike the Beretta 92FS for some reason.

I own a version of the pistol that gives them even more reasons to poop all over it. It's a surplus Italian police trade-in 92S that is an even older and less advanced model than the 92FS.

Along with the standard complaints that go along with the FS, some additional features folks enjoy pooping on include:
  • It's a surplus gun I paid $280 for.
  • It has a magazine release located at the bottom of the grip instead of near the trigger guard like the FS so you can't do super cool tactical reloads.
  • It doesn't have an ambidextrous safety/decocker like the FS.
  • It doesn't have a squared-off trigger guard like the FS.
  • It has lower profile sights than the FS.
  • Aftermarket mags won't work on it unless you hit it with a Dremel Tool. All Beretta factory mags will work (even the ones they currently manufacture) since they include a mag release hole at the bottom.

So, not only is an "awful" gun like the FS, it's an "even worse version" than the FS since it lacks the updated features.

It seems like US soldiers have a particular disdain for the 92 series, which I personally believe is undeserved.

That being said, I like the 92S. It didn't cost a lot of money. It shoots well. It's always been reliable with whatever ammo I have fed it. The sole (and quite minuscule) issue I have had with it in like 3 years is that the last time I took it to the range about a week ago the slide lock hold open didn't function after the last round. This has only occurred once and I think it was due to a weak magazine spring on the original surplus mag. Other than that it's run flawlessly.

Well, I'm gonna use your comment tomorrow anyway as I try to negotiate a sweet deal on that Model 18 I found. I can legitimately tell the shop owner that I heard Model 18's are "Jammamatics"! I'll let you know if I'm successful tomorrow night!

I have a few oddballs,
A Taurus 450, full titanium in 45 Colt, no one knows what it is. The ammo weighs more than the gun!
PMR 30, I like it, always goes boom (very LOUDLY!) and weighs little.
P95 Ruger
Someone gave my wife a Phoenix Arms .25. It goes boom when asked!
Sig 1911. Everyone has to hate on the extractor. Sure works well and is very pretty!
AMT backup in .380...what can I say!!

No hate here. Field stripping the Mk II is a breeze, and reassembly is easy if you take your time and remain calm

Glocks - people either love them or hate them. Can't hit much of anything with them so I'm not a fan but I've seen people who can and that's great....for them.

I have 2 Taurus pistols. Lots of people hate the brand. And they have given people reason to hate them. But both of the ones I have are outstanding. One is amazing in fact. It's never had a failure of any kind through 5000 rounds or so and it shoots crazy accurate (I shoot empty .45 casings at 20 yards with it). I don't expect it to last like a steel pistol but so far it is exceptional. I keep it where I sleep and I depend on it completely.

From what I've read, even though I stay clear away from Taurus products, their Beretta clone (PT-92/99) is good to go. Allegedly, Taurus makes those pistols on Beretta machines, which they bought after a contract. So, the Taurus PT-92/99 are essentially Beretta's with a Taurus logo on them, and a few minor differences (safety is on the frame, locking blocks are the old style).

I love my Italian Beretta Inox with rosewood stocks.

In 1980! The two don't share anything but the look anymore. Parts aren't even interchangeable

AMT's don't get a lot of love. I bought the Longslide new in 1980, it needed some gunsmith tuning to the extractor and other than that has worked just fine. The Automag II is ammo sensitive, it doesn't like bullets lighter than 40 grains but I have found several brands that function 100% and the fireball at the range is as much fun as my .22 Jet or Ruger Blackhawk .30 Carbine.

Amongst my collection, buried somewhere is a Rohm RG-40. It is a true Saturday night special from the 70s, although it came in a nicely sized .38 Spl, six shot, 2” snub nosed package.

I don’t really have anything glowing to say about it (other than the size feels right for a six shot snub) but, despite the brand origin it has a surprisingly tight lockup and has always been 100% reliable the handful of times I’ve shot it. That being said, it spends its days as a safe queen...if you can call a Rohm that...as I doubt it would hold up to any real use. It was my mother’s, not quite sure how or when she got it but she has moved on to better options.

I don’t have a picture of mine, but here is a pic of someone else’s if you really wanna see what plagued drug trafficking cops in the 70s and 80s.

Rubone's post prompted a memory for me. I've seen ALOT of AMT .380 Backups come and go over both sides of the gun counter. And couldn't begin to recall how many were plagued by FTF/light firing pin strikes.
Of course, first thing is to disassemble, inspect, clean, lube, etc.
In examining the mainspring I have seen many that you could almost bet good money on that the mainspring was from a click-ballpoint pen. Not kidding.
Simply amazing.
Strange what you remember when prompted!

Default AS MY WIFE OFTEN TELLS ME.....

Keep your big mouth shut. (I know, a wise woman) Hopefully you wouldn't tell a new Mom "that's one ugly kid". Kinda the same thing with guns/cars etc. If your gun functions reliably as designed to do & you don't have to return it to the mfgr, consider yourself ahead of the game. When making a sweeping/blanket statement like the ACME XYZ is the BEST gun ever made??? Like YOU actually fired/tested EVERY gun ever made??? Regurgitating what some PAID gun rag writer wrote don't make it true.

I don't know if it's hate exactly, but I do get some comments when I shoot any of the old Iver Johnsons at the range. The RO sometimes complains about them being smoky and he blames it on lead bullets and Alox lube. He insists it has a Glock trigger, but when I point out that the revolver was made in 1879 while his pistol was still mostly two liter bottles in 1979 he mumbles something about old geezers under his breath.

I've got one as a Model RSR 6590. Aren't these transitional sidearms what with the squared trigger guards and protected adjustable rear sight? I carry it and love it. My friends...not so much feeling the love for it.
