My first .45 auto was a 1911A1 Remington Rand. The year was 1967 as
I recall and I wanted a .45 like everyone else but me seemed to have. I
was at a local out door range talking to a much older guy and he told me
he would sell me one of the two 1911s that he bought through the DCM.
He said he didn't need both of them and he was willing to help a young
guy (me) out. Said all he wanted was what he paid for the gun, $22.50.
I just about fell over. One day in the mid 70s I foolishly traded it off
and have regretted it ever since.

If you plan to shoot it much and it has it' original springs you may want to get a new recoil and firing pin spring. Wolf has a set. Easy to replace. I did on my 1943 Ithaca 1911a1. I also replaced the springs in the 3 wwII magazines. Keep the originals. Nice!

congrats on you RR. that is one you wish could talk. pristine ones are nice to look at but "seasoned" ones have a lot more character. lee

I'd say don't shoot it much period, springs or no springs. The slide on the 1911A1 was only heat treatead in some spots and can develop cracks if high volume shooting is involved..

During my time of service I used the M1, M14, M16, M3, M9, M1911.
The two best, most reliable and damn near indestructible were the M1 and the M1911. Both are great pieces of military history. Congrats on your purchase of a very nice specimen.
