Victorinox Overview, See a Superb New Video,Post 21
If you like this firm's Swiss Army knives and other products, you'll love this company-produced video.
I have several of their kitchen knives and love them, as I do a number of their SAK's. I think the value-price ratio is exceptionally high.
Who else here likes Victorinox? I know that our late member Colin Doane (Cyrano) did, and I suspect that many others do.

I usually carry a small Victorinox pocket knife, and have a few more in the dresser drawer. I also have a Victorinox Swiss Army wristwatch I have worn for over 20 years (maybe closer to 25), the only attention it has ever needed was a battery change. It is now on its fourth watchband, and I have a new watchband for it, also in the dresser drawer, as the one on it is going rapidly. For some reason, those early Victorinox watches are not marked as being from Victorinox anywhere, only the white cross-in-shield Victorinox emblem on the dial face. I believe the newer Victorinox watches are marked.

I've carried one of the small 3 blade ones (with the tip of the nail file modified for a sight adjustment screwdriver tip) for over 40 years, and my children and grandchildren have been given one.

I used to had to have the biggest, baddest knife they made.
I'm sure glad I have outgrown that particular need......
The latest seems to be the Swisschamp Xavt at $379.97 Prime on Amazon. (83 functions!) ($536.00 w/free shipping at B&H Photo.)

Been a fan for 40+ years. Carry one of the small ones every day. My first Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph was the 9G-600 from Victorinox too, still have it.

I just today received a Fieldmaster Wounded Warrior Project edition. I purchased it in case I needed to gift it. Thankfully I purchased another item to gift so I can keep this one! I've had several of the classic models over the years but nothing as large as a Fieldmaster. It's so pretty I'm not sure I can drop it in my pocket though...

I've carried a SAK in my pocket since the 70s. The first one I owned was a Victorianox Spartan, which I lost in the snow during a winter mountaineering jaunt into the Wind River Range in 1979. Since then, I've collected seven more, including the olive green German Army model. My aluminum grip Executive has gouges in it from an '09 motorcycle wreck that totaled my bike, and left me bruised and scraped up. Lots of memories associated with those knives. I keep them on the shelf above my dresser, and choose from the selection depending on what I plan on doing on any given day. I also have a Victorianox watch that I've been wearing for the past 20 years.

There are eight SAKs on my shelf, nothing bigger than a three-row Tinker. There are a couple more stashed away on bikes that I haven’t seen in years, including a Wenker that I would really like to see again. Then there is the one in my pocket, an Alox Electrician. The sheepsfoot blade makes it for me.
This knife does everything I need from an EDC knife. If I go into the woods, I will bring a Farmer instead, for the saw. I always carry a couple of other knives, though, because I can.

Carried a SAK, either Victorinox or Wenger, every day for 40+ years. Left jeans pocket is currently home to an Evo 11. Also have a watch from each label as well.

A friend gave me the Automotive in 1965 and I used it every day for 30 years as a Mercedes-Benz mechanic, sort of a tool box in the pocket. The Aluminum scaled knife was my father-in-law's, bought sometime in the 60's also.

One of these days, I'll find one of my grail SAKs, the Yeoman. Until then, an Explore is a near daily companion, a Waiter is my key-fob, and a Cowboy is often at-hand. You just can't go wrong. I used to bemoan the thickness of the 4-layer Explore, just a bit. However, it does provide a solid grip for careful use of several of the tools. The small blade, corkscrew, or heavy punching with the awl.

An Astonishing View of Making Victorinox Knives
A National Geographic video of the Victorinox factory, showing how the knives are made, start to finish, with historical and cultural comments by President Carl Elsener IV and Urs Wyss, manager.
A terrific film. If you like Swiss Army knives, you'll love this!

a little surprised to see one of the boxes of knives being shipped to London. I thought with all of the paranoia about knives in England that owning a knife there would not be a good thing. maybe a SAK is considered as non -threatening

I think a non-locking blade of three inches or less is UK-legal. Anything more, and you must have a "good reason" to have it.

I like Victorinox Swiss army knives as much as anybody. They are great pieces of engineering. Fit and finish is usually very good. Use of space is very efficient, yet the blades never got caught on each other. The blades open easily, and don't wiggle. They are awesome in their own right.
They are not however multitools. A real Leatherman is very hard to beat. IMHO.

We're on the same page, I think. I carry the little SAK in my watch pocket, daily it complements my Buck 110 nicely. For a long time I carried a Champion daily, and found it too bulky and awkward to use at times. But it was a work of art IMHO.
Once you get past a four blade sak, they get bulky. This is were the full size Leatherman takes over I think. Just my opinions of course.
This is a picture of my first two knives. For my 6th birthday the Sak. It is from the 60's I believe. It is a Victorinox, it had a somewhat fancy shackle, and it was from before toothpicks and tweezers, and long before even the original MacGiver. I carried it daily till I got the Champion for my 13th birthday, (still pre MacGyver) then I'd switch them depending on if I could wear a belt sheath or not.
The Camillus was for whittling. Which was good because I was wearing away the soft blades on the Sak.
Thanks for posting those great videos. I love how it's made videos, and the Victorinox factory is a real standout.

Your SAK may be even older than the 1960's, with that exposed punch on the right side. A guy on YouTube tells how to date SAK's. I think his name is Swiss Army Knives Dan. I'll check, and maybe post a video. He owns a bunch of them! I have about 20, inc. some kitchen knives.
True: the thicker ones aren't meant for pocket carry. I keep a SwissChamp in my briefcase and wear a smaller knife in a pocket. I sometimes wear a Huntsman in a belt pouch, but the belt knife is usually a Benchmade Model 710 or some other lockblade knife with about a three to four inch blade.
Texas has a better, improved knife law now, and I can wear my Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn Combat Folder without fear of how some cop might view it. I still wish they hadn't put the words Combat Folder on the blade.
The thickest Swiss knife that I'll sometimes carry in a pocket is the Camper. But when I might need a saw, I usually put a Hunter in a coat pocket. I prefer its longer saw.
I'm glad that you liked both videos.
Honestly, I can't think of anything offering better value than a genuine Victorinox knife.

Real fond of mine-a gift. Noticed a slight difference in the logo on mine as I watched the video. Looking closely I saw "Stainless" over "China."

The current mark is Swiss Made instead of the former version, to emphasize that the knives are NOT Chinese.

“Nor is a watermelon a cantoloupe!” Well put!
I have several SAKs. I, too, find the Champion a piece of art, but too bulky to be practical. Probably use the Camper the most. Well, until recently. I find the Waiter, with decent sized blade, can opener, bottle opener, screw driver, corkscrew, toothpick and tweezers, to have, for most days, everything I need and nothing I don’t.
And at about $17 a piece, a real value.
For those who don’t know, you can get tiny screwdrivers that screw into the corkscrew. Good for eyeglass screws, etc. I think a pack of three is $5 or so from Amazon. Also replacement toothpicks are cheap.
I like Leatherman, too. Their advantage is the pliers, and their downfall the lack of a corkscrew.

I was in Boy Scouts growing up and acquired a few SAKs over the years, including one from an exchange student from Germany who stayed with my family for a month, she picked it up for me from the factory store in Switzerland. I've carried them on and off, but find personal preference is for a knife with a lock on it and a Leatherman.

For years, I have owned several, first a Wenker, followed by a number of Victotinox. I never pocket-carried them, preferring to stash them on my motorbikes in supplementation of their tool kits.
When the Leatherman appeared, i started carrying them, for their superior tools. I still packed the SAKs, but they saw less use. Once, I went to Mexico with only a Leatherman, which bit me in the butt when the blade proved unequal to a bit of desiccated mesquite i needed to whittle to replace a carb drain screw that had gone missing. Those Mexican canyon roads can be really rough. I resolved always to carry at least one good blade.
These days, i pocket carry a small Channel Lock plier, in addition to an SAK and whatever knives I feel like carrying. The parallel jaws on the pliers are a lot more useful than the needle-nose pliers typically found on a multitool, and they disappear in the pocket, adding less weight than a small knife.
For scissors, I prefer the Leatherman Micra. I have a shelf full of SAKs with broken springs. I am aware that replacement springs can be had, but my Micras do not break springs.
For a really minimalist pocket kit, I go with the setup below.
