IMO, the MkII is a PITA to detail disassemble. and the safety isn't so well-located, but it is still a great gun, particularly with good grips, which you seem to have. Too bad about the finish, but the gun's loss is your son's gain.
Nice truck gun!

It normally wears Hogue rubber wrap-arounds. I was going to re-blue it for him, but he wanted the MKII as is, after I stripped the original finish, and a pair of my Hogue woods. They'll just get beat up. Go figure ??

Looks nice but a truck gun gets more humidity than most and the raw metal........poor Hi-Power.

With what is available now, my truck guns are stainless. Truck guns on ranches don’t always get good care, stainless is forgiving in that regard.

I own several stainless for that reason. The Hi Power isn't stainless though.

How did you clean off the factory finish?
I have a MK II in rough shape and I'm considering my low cost options...

I use "Aircraft Paint Remover". Available on-line or at auto body paint suppliers. I've used it to "dissolve" all types of finishes on numerous "project" guns over the years. Even the really tough coatings ( like typically found on Israeli surplus Hi-Powers) wipes off. For parts submerged in the stuff in a glass pan for a week, the old finish virtually wipes right off.

Absolutely agree. BEFORE it goes from in-the-white to some sort of in-the-splotchy-brown, LOL.

That looks like a pretty blued one with patina from age. The only brown I can see is her grips.

I wouldn't change anything. New guns don't look half as good as used ones. I have an Israeli HiPower coming in and unless something is broken I plan to leave it as it is.

WADR my friend: But for a single small roll pin retaining the starboard side thumb safety lever...both removed from OPs MkII, the vast majority of MkII BHPs are no more "difficult" to detail strip than any other BHP. Granted BHPs in general are more complicated to detail strip than some other designs though. Most late production MkIIs...the "MkIIS", are fitted with a firing pin safety...as are the various iterations of the MkIII since '89, which adds an extra (sear lever) spring and an extra step to remove the firing pin.
WADR 2: With that said; how often does one actually detail strip their MkII?
WADR 3: Unless of course it's a carbon steel MkII truck gun...left in the white .
WADR 4: The MkII was produced from late '81 through '89...OPs ex-Israeli Police MkII was produced in '85...not '75.

I think BHPs just get better with age. I picked up an Israeli Mk III for about $290 some years back; it must have been a supervisor's gun as it had some nicks and scratches but almost new otherwise. I've put about 3400 rounds through it myself and it just runs smoother.
As to a cheap refinish, I just sandblasted a really rough old Ruger .22 auto pistol and then had the gunsmith throw it in the bluing tank. Sort of a poor man's parkerizing job. After fifteen years it shows some wear (it should!) but well used tools do. BHPs look good in anything...

KINDA HARD TO SAY
Any before pics? I believe any metal protection is better than none, especially for a "truck gun".

Yea, that yellow nail polish/model car paint, whatever it was HAD to go. Should have done it before I took the picture.

I just bought my first Hi Power last week and I totally love it, its a 1993 MK III 9m/m with ugly rubber grips and a bobbed hammer spur which came with 5 magazines for $445. The gun otherwise is in nice condition and is really accurate and will be my bed side gun, I have a Shield in the truck.
