Star Pistols Experts???
I have a Star BM that was given to me some 20 years ago .It is a surplus auto and I was told that it was a police handgun. On the right side of the frame and slide near the serial no.are stamped diamonds with what appears to be a sword or ?swords in the diamonds.
Anyone know what these diamonds represent?

You got me...
This is in addition to the Star logo? I'm sure if somebody knows something about this they would like to see a picture. I would too.

Those should be proof marks.

These marks appear to be some sort of 'unit" mark and presently I have no way of photographing them.
They are not proof marks, the Spanish proof mark is on the barrel and is a flaming bomb type of mark.

Diamond w/ 2 swords inside it (handle to the right IIRC) and then a number after it.
Spanish Guardia Civil property marking.
The number is the weapon# or inventory # of the particular pistol. Not the mfg'rs ser#.
Ser# 'should' be on the bottom of the butt of the framealong with the Model designation,, or later production pistols ser# appears on the side of the frame. Can't recall now which side!
The change from the bottom location to one of the sides was done with all the Models,,A,B, A&B Super, ect.)
There are a few Model Bm pistols around w/no mgf'rs ser# ever placed on them and the inventory # is used as the ser# in commercial sales.
I've only seen pics of them, one didn't have any proofs either so that may explain some of it.
That style of using a separate inventory# was also used on Spanish Military issue Model A, B and Model Super pistols.
They do have a separate ser# as well as the Military inventory#.
Unfortunetly the importer(s) over the years have quite often used the Inventory# as a ser# and that's the way they are logged at importation, boxed and sold in the US.
I've had several of the Model B Supers w/ box, extra mag, manual, etc. They were imported and sold in the above manner using the inventory# on the side as the ser#.
They were bought from AIM some years ago, but imported by CAI IIRC. ($99.95 in exc cond orig blue!)
The STAR factory ser# was plainly visible on the butt of the frame at the mag well and on the orig end lable of the box.
The importers new lable pasted over listed the Inventory# as the ser#,,and so it goes.
added,,
There's a small pic of the diamond marking in question and notation as to it's meaning on the rt side of the slide and frame of a Model BM in Antharis's (sp?) book 'Star Firearms'..pg 485.

My Granddad owned two 9mm and one .45 Star which I gave to my LEO uncle and my two cousins (his two boys) after he passed, given I was in charge of his guns. Good reliable pistols. I found the magazine to stick on most but I shot the hell out of them with no issues. And yes, it was a popular CC and backup for LEOs then.

Many thanks to 2152hq....I just picked up my AIM Star BM today, brought it home and cleaned it up and BINGO you post a ton of great info!
Here are some pics of mine, with the numbers pretty much where you say they'll be.
Ground off unit marking followed by inventory number on both frame and slide.
Actual serial number on the frame behind the trigger.
Both listed on the box....here's some pics.
