Dan Wesson Model 15
Out in time for Christmas.
Information is hard to find on these, so I have no real idea when it was made. Later 70 maybe, more likely early 80's. I'm not sure if it's a -2 or a no dash (I don't think it really matters). The hang tag at the store said "Model 15" so that's what I'm going with. I do know it's what the DW fans call a "Monson gun" which means it was made in Monson, Mass., and they are generally considered the best one DW made.
Just a conventional 357 revolver with a 4" barrel I suppose.

my friend has one. MONSON/ MASS. it looks like a 15-2. suggestion, HOGUE/monogrip, w/ finger groves helps w/ recoil. Pacmeyer? also has a good grip. but the hogue/ finger grip has a better hand feel, and concels better than the larger pacmeyer grip. a change of grips, if the double action doesn't work, just add a few washers to the grip bolt. MERRY XMAS. when checking gun stores and the have the trade in holesters bin, look for a JACKASS holester, not made any more. it will be stamped on the back w DW. have a good day.

I think it's probably a -2 also, although it's not marked anywhere on the gun. The shop just had Model 15 on the hang tag, but that doesn't always mean much.
I had thought about looking for another set of grips, but I sort of like the looks of these. They're different. I think every Dan Wesson I've ever seen had target type stocks.
Frankly, I doubt I'll ever shoot it. I don't shoot near as much as I used to, and I've got several other "finish challenged" guns to shoot.

My first revolver was a High Standard (DW) like yours. Mine had adjustable sights, but not the vent rib. It taught me a great deal and because of it I started reloading. My first reloads were on a Lee Loader. I have now progressed all the way to a Dillon. I wish I had it back. but I still have the Security Six I traded it for.

I believe yours is a 15-2 V, it has the small barrel shroud. An early 15 has the pork chop shroud. Here is a picture of my well worn 15.
Take notice how the shroud follows the entire frame in the front.

That is a beautiful gun. I dithered on a six inch .22 once and was of course beaten out by a non-ditherer. I am still on the hunt.
Congrats, and let us know how it shoots.

I had an officer that carried one of those. I shot it a few times, very nice shooting revolver. I really wish I could get grips like that for my GP.

There should be a scene in a movie where a guy grabs someone else's Dan Wesson and then tries to reload it but can't figure out how to open the cylinder.
No one would get it.
Absolutely beautiful gun, Merry Christmas!

You have a very nice 15-2. They were available with either a VR (Vent Rib) barrel, which you have, or a VH (Vent Heavy) barrel like mine. As mentioned earlier, a Hogue Monogrip does wonders for taming the recoil of hot loads. Ugly as sin, but they sure do work. I bought mine new in September of 1978 with an 8" barrel. I added a 4" barrel several years later. For many years, they were under appreciated in the marketplace, and only in the past few years have folks come to understand how fine this revolver is.

I’d ballpark your gun to about 1982 +/- 1year.

The O.P.'s DW is a Model 15-2V (the V stands for "Vent" as in the vent rib barrel) and dates to about the 1983ish time frame. The serial# database for DW's is based off the paperwork found in the box or the original purchasers information on when it was purchased. The serial# tables are not complete by any means and are meant to be used as a guide only. There is lot's to be learned on DW's on the Dan Wesson Forum.

My LGS had a 15 recently and knowing I loved revolvers they brought it out to show me. I could not get the cylinder open and I really thought something was wrong. Handed it to the manager, opened it right up. Back to me, couldn't open it. Talk about embarrassing

Yes, that is a 15-2V from the 1980's. From what I have been able to gather, the trigger over-travel stop screw was moved from the rear of the trigger to the frame on the 357's shortly after DW introduced their large frame revolver.

I think they are a very under rated firearm. I've got a Model 15 with 3 barrels and a .44 Mag. with 2. After buying the .44 I sold my model 29's.
