Barrel recommendation for 10/22?
I have a 10/22 with a Volquartsen barrel and trigger with a Nikon scope and a Fajen stock; it is a real tack driver.
I've got another 10/22 with a Power Custom titanium kit installed already, but I'd like to get rid of the factory barrel and stock and replace it with a threaded bull barrel. I don't want to sink the same kind of money into it as I've got in the other, so I'm looking for advice on building a bargain shooter.
The price for a number of barrels is about half the cost of a Volquartsen or Tactical Solutions or Kidd, so I'm wondering about the quality of them. Any experience or recommendations with the following brands?
Keystone Arms
Atomic
E.R. Shaw
I'd like a 16 inch threaded barrel so I can use my suppressor, without a match type chamber. For the money, I'm not expecting VQ levels of accuracy, but I'd like it to be an improvement over the factory barrel. I don't care about weight, so I don't need a tensioned lightweight barrel, or even one that is fluted. Looking for the most bang for the buck here.

I'm not familiar with the first two, but the E R Shaw has a good reputation for accuracy.

I rebuilt a 30 year old 10/22 last summer and put a fluted 16.5 inch threaded Tactical Solutions barrel on it and love it.

Spend a few hours on rimfire central dot com, and you will get all kinds of ideas. Just look around and start reading. Once you have some ideas then start asking the questions.

What I find at RFC,, is the recommendation of the guy that reworks YOUR barrel for very little $$
Many people find these reworked factory barrels will out-shoot many big dollar aftermarket barrels.
My next barrel will be a reworked factory Ruger Carbine barrel.
I visited the facility that hammer forges barrels, it is a low cost, but, very accurate process.
I would bet Ruger hammer forges all of their rifle barrels,, simply because of cost.
So, I think the same machine that makes the Ruger Target rifle barrel makes the Carbine barrel.

Good to know, thanks. I'm leaning towards the Shaw.

I do like Tactical Solutions stuff, but it is about double the price of the cheaper brands I'm interested in. Really good barrels, but out of the price range of this build.

But then I'd have to relocate the front sight, have the barrel threaded, and reworked as well. Easier and cheaper to put an aftermarket barrel on it.
I've looked pretty hard at them and I think I'm going to use a Shaw barrel. They have a pretty decent reputation for accuracy, and I can get the barrel I want for a very low price. The KSA looks good, but I can't stand the size of the pencil engraving they use on the barrels to mark it, it just looks bad. The Atomic Arms barrel is probably just a rebranded KSA, and while it looks slightly better, I can't find anything about it otherwise.
Thanks to all for your recommendations!

Get a piece of wood and carve the stock yourself. Frees up some money for the other stuff.

Rimfire central has used barrels and some real nice stocks done by someone in their classifieds. Good luck, Larry

I purchased the basic model back in the summer. It had the short, bland stock and it is a tack driver with the short barrel. My wife can shoot it better than I can. She is like a machine, all in the same hole at 25 yards. I wouldn't change a thing until you try it out.
Just my .02 cents. :-)
Have a blessed day,
Leon

I bought this one new in 1995 and it has proven itself to be mediocre in the accuracy department. Also, I'd have to have the factory barrel threaded and shortened and that would be cost prohibitive.
I ended up ordering a Shaw, we will see how it goes.
