Default Info Quest = Colt Value & Info

Etched barrel .38 CF, Nickel is almost 100% but for the patch seen near left muzzle. Grips sharp show no wear. Function perfect. Bore shiny & sharp. Fire blue on trigger & top & back of hammer 100%, s/n 17Ks. Dates from 1870s ??.

House pistol, New police, Cop & thug -- I see it called 3 names. Interested in its actual model name if it has one ----- but real want is valuation info. I saw one of the short bbl ones with a date of 1877.

I see pix of both checkered Colt grip & Cop & Thug grip. I see collectorsfirearms.com has its pocket pistol version at $2400 similar condition.

Wish I hadn't given away my old Colt book by Sutherland & Wilson.

Not necesarrily wanting to sell but might trade -- of interest especially with 4.5" bbl & ejector -

Serven's book "Colt Firearms (from 1836)" calls it simply the "Police Revolver," 4-1/2" and 6" barrels. Those with short barrels and without the ejector housing (apparently the only differences from the Police Revolver) are called the "House Revolver." Serven shows the "Police Revolver" as having only the "Cop and Thug" grips, with the "House Revolver" shown as having only the plain checkered grips. It is therefore possible the grips on yours are incorrect, but someone with much more knowledge than I would have to render an opinion on that. If your grips are incorrect, that would probably be a signigicant negative to its value.

I can't provide a value.

Thanks for the info. Trying for info I've seen 6 pix with 4.5 & 6" bbls, all with checkered grips. At colllectorsfirearms.com is one of the short bbl ones also with checker grips at $2400 ------>

As I said, I have no knowledge about what the correct grips are. There is a Colt Forum which is somewhat similar to this one, and you might get better answers about yours there. Collectors Firearms is well known for the altitude of their prices.

Default colt new police

The colt "New Police" revolvers had the "Cop and Thug" grips standard.
The grips on yours look slightly undersize in the pics.
Likely they are from another gun.
It is still a very fine and scarce piece.
The value would be more with the original grips but still 2K+
IMHO
