Default Beretta factory ‘idiot marks’

I like the Beretta 92/96 series. They always work well for me. But I can’t help but notice that many brand new berettas have little scratches from the factory. This new 96a1 has scratches on the alloy frame near the rail. They are all in the same plane, and I wonder how they got there at the factory. I thought the long scratch here was a hairline crack.

The other model 96a1 at the store had an even deeper scratch in that same exact area. This leaves me to believe it’s not a crack, but something of an idiot mark being made at the factory. What gives?

I do love this pistol though.

Default

I have a 92 Compact which came with way too many small scratches on it to suit me. When I finally get tired of the marks, Allegheny Gun Works (I think that's the name/spelling) up in PA will re-anodize the frame for $120 + shipping. I think most of the 92/96's have had a spray-and-bake easily scratched finish on them for decades. It will actually have a hard-coat anodized finish on it when it comes back...
