The tooling is at end of life which one of the reasons FN sighted for stopping production so I am not sure who is going to buy end of life tooling for a gun that is not selling well. LOL

So much despair in this post! For everyone saying their time is now over for owning one, or wishing they’d bought one before their demise, cheer up! That’s like saying now that S&W has stopped making the M&P revolver our time is gone for owning one. They made millions of the HP, there’s plenty left for several lifetimes and prices on all but the pristine early collectible models (WWII era, 60’s, etc.) will probably remain within reach of most gun buyers. As the famous movie line from National Lampoons Animal House stated, Remain calm, all is well!

my for real Belgian 1982 production that has been to Cylinder&Slide, came to me from a dear friend who has been gone for almost 6 years now. i sent it in for a broken barrel cam, and while it was there, had a new ring hammer installed, an action package #1 done, and fit/function tested 12 mags, has no price EVER. sad to think a true combat legend still used by countries the world over, is now a dinosaur... guess that all good things must truly come to an end.

We live in a new world of firearms. Those milled from blocks of forged steel have given way to those that are made from injected metal and polymer. Manufacturers, in order to stay in business, need to be profitable and milling weapons from blocks of steel is expensive. I'm sorry to see the BHP production end, but it is what it is.

Thankfully, there are plenty of real BHP's in the wild and then there are the clones, so I don't expect the BHP to become a D&D Bren 10 any time soon.

I have had at least one Browning High Power in my possession for the last 30 years, the one that made it to Texas with me was my go to handgun for a long time before I decided to modernize a bit, it still is a favorite shooter. There are a ton of good BHP's out there, find one and buy one. There just won't be new ones to add to all the other safe queens in the back of some of your safes.

For IDPA rules I bought a 1911 in 9mm, a S.A. range officer. It is a wonderful shooting pistol and my favorite 1911 to shoot. After all, the model 1900 that would evolve into the 1911 was chambered in 38 auto... 9mm!
Stop yelling at me!

Default Got 2 Here......

Well, one here, one on the way.
This FM Detective Model has been here for about 6 months. Gave it a C&S safety & trigger, did away with the magazine disconnect. Added some Uncle Mike's/Speigel grips. Picked up a standard length FM slide & barrel, threaded the standard barrel for when I wanna can it. The barrels swapped with no fitting necessary.

I just bought this ALLOY frame FN . Once it gets here, Dr. Frankenstein will be operatin'. ( Detective slide & barrel on ALLOY frame) New C&S hammer & trigger too.

Clones ( not FM or FEG) are already appearing. The guys over on the Hi Power Forum are posting a new entry; The TISAS Regent BR9. BHP will go the way of the 1911 with many clones, variations, and custom shops jumping in.

The Tisas has been around for a while in Canada. Other than that there are no clones in production. I don't see more coming. Even the Tisas has already been rumored to be discontnued in favor of Govt military contracts. It was a surprise when they arrived in the US market and the company bringing them in has ZERO marketing accept word of mouth. The numbers that they are importing is tiny.

There just isn't a market for the clone even at lower price points. The FMs, FEG, Charles Daly etc.... did not sell in any great numbers. Why would you go after a more labor intensive design which high material costs when you can produce other designs at much higher margins at the same price points.

I think they will go the way of Colt Pythons, woodsmen, etc. I just picked up a High Power in .30 Luger and I think that the .40 S&W will bring a premium because they weren't popular and fewer made.

PS, at my age I don't buy as and investment,I buy what I want if the price is not outrageous.

Maybe I will be able to afford a Hi Power if they are all abandoned in favor of composite firearms like Glocks.

Just picked up a blue cerakoted Tisas BR9 today, after reading a fairly detailed rundown on them on the 1911 site. Have only had time to look it over closely, field strip, and lube it--but I am pleasantly surprised. Seems to be a quality piece, and does not suffer in comparison to my well used FN Mk. III. The proof will be in the shooting, of course, but so far I am impressed.

These things just might be the sleeper of the year.

Good to know. I already tried to contact the importer/distributor, but no luck so far. I'll soon try again. Circumstances beyond my control killed my last gasp attempt to procure a BNIB BHP... and then I lost out on a beautiful local one as a didn't find the listing fast enough and someone else grabbed it. Maybe God is trying to tell me to wait for one of these Tisas clones instead.

Tisas are supposed to start having a stainless version available later this month. Could be interesting.

Yeah, that's the version I'd prefer. I'm not a Cerakote kind of guy, especially on a pistol like the BHP (yes, even a clone!).

Default Hi-Power

Here is my 1993 MK III that I recently had cerakoted, night sights added, VZ grips, re-springed and the magazine safety removed. I was going to sell it, but now I'm thinking I should hang on to it. You just don't see Hi-Powers for sale that often even though there are a lot of them out there.

Wanna try some??;-) My High Power Competition went away recently..

Only 6'' barrel version FN ever made.. All Belgium too.. That HP will be missed...

An almost new 625-6 Mountain Gun has appeared to help ease the PAIN of my loss:-)

Question

Ran across one today. A NIB fixed sight model from Argentina. First one I've seen so wasn't sure what good price would be?

Up here in Canada, the clones are available at less than half price of an original one made in Portugal. But even these are not as wanted as the ''made in Belgium''ones exept maybe for the Inglis ones(made in Canada).
I remember even in the '90s,the price asked for a good Belgian one was out of reach.
Well,I guess I can always buy a clone and find the specs of the original HP and then with judicious gunsmithing and a lot of prayers end up with a gun that'll be as smooth as the one I shot in the mid'80s(yep,I still remember...just like that first time you were alone with her and.....)

I got a brand new deep polished blue Browning Hi Power as a retirement gift. It was very pretty to look at but the hammer was atrocious to pull back for some reason. I had to use two hands to pull that sucker back. Plus the brand new guns slide was more sloppy than my remington rand/ ithaca mixed matched GI 1911 that went through three wars!!! It jingle jangled more than a rusty pirate sword :/
