Add a Mosin Nagant to my list.....
I was at the range and met a guy and his son with a very nice looking military rifle. I was surprised to find out it was a Mosin Nagant, but it looked like it had been restored beyond new, but with extras like smooth stained wood and nice fittings. They let me shoot it and I was really impressed with the way that it felt. I want one.

So you're telling us it had been pimped, or was it a Polish M44 carbine as they usually turn up in the condition you describe.
As a milsurp collector, I like my old warhorses with the BTDT look, but given the number of pimped 1903, Swiss K31 and Enfield rifles I have seen, that does not work for everyone.

I have a MN, a lot of friends have them, seen plenty but your post is the first one that ever described a MN as "very nice looking"

I have one like that and one in original condition. I bought both about 6-7 years ago. Many collectors of these guns think it sac religious to refinish them, kinda like we do with the S&W's. I didn't buy mine for collector value though. Another good thing about these rifles is you can still get them for pretty cheap! I hope they will increase in value like the SKS, but may be wishful thinking.
BTW, you probably already know this, but many of these guns are still being used today in some war torn countries.

Mosin Nagant 91/59
My first rifle purchase was a Mosin Nagant 91/59 carbine with a beautiful lacquered stock, all re-blued and in new condition. Got it over 25 years ago, kicks like a mule and gets a lot of attention with a fireball from the muzzle with every shot. Haven't shot it in years, shoulder can't take it any more. Paid a whole $79 for it.

I have a Polish that I am sure had never been issued and maybe not even fired before I got it. I have picked up Russian M N everywhere from battle field pick up to re-arsenal new . They have all been decent shooters even with cheap ammo.

Have one that's still in the box (last one) that it came in back a few years ago when they were on practically every street corner for under $100
I think theyre still relatively inexpensive (gun & ammo) for today's prices.

Add a Mosin Nagant to my list.....
I have a 91/30 Tula ex-sniper. Shoots good but about 8” high at 100 yards with PRVI 182 grain.
Still “getting around” to working up some CB loads for it.
I’m thinking of corking below the hand guard to bring POI down.
They were so cheap at one time, when you made a purchase at the LGS, they’d ask if you wanted your change in Mosin.

Here’s a few to look for.
Russian Mosin nagant 91/30 7.62x54R. 30” barrel
The captured Russian mosins were reworked by the Finns till they shot 1” moss. There’s shims between the receiver and the wood do not mix them up when cleaning the Mosin.
Finnish Mosin nagant 91/30
Finnish Mosin nagant m39
Warning graphic.

I've owned a number of Mosins, and enjoyed them. My current one is a SAKO, Finish M39 that is a jewel. They all kick so bad that I only shoot cast bullets, (they work beautifully) or factory that I reduce. I pull the bullets and reduce the powder by 15% and replace the bullet. No warranty on that process, but it works for me.

I have a Finnish VKT M39, Finnish 91/30 sniper rifle. I have the Czech 7,62x54R silver tip ammo in my stash.
I have some Russian Barnaul 7.62x54R 203gr sp ammo. The Barnaul ammo is suppose to be the most accurate Russian ammo.

This is a Russian m44? The bayonet can be removed but the stock bedding is required for accuracy.

It should shoot point of aim with the bayonet extended.

That, and allegedly the troops were taught the "belt buckle"
point of aim. Eight inches or a foot high, at a hundred yards
would work fine.

To sight the m44 in at 100yds my buddy removed the bayou and bedded the stock.
I had a brand new Russian m44. There’s two dates on Mosin rifles. One is on the barrel and another date is under the receiver near the rear securing bolt. If they match that’s the exact date. If the barrel date is newer the barrel has been changed.
