Manurhin MR 73

Manurhin stands for “Manufacture de machines du Haut-Rhin”. No need to translate I guess, sometimes French is easy.

The MR 73 was introduced in 1973 obviously. It was the first revolver built in France since 1892 !

In 1999, Chapuis armes, a small craftsman builder specialised in luxury hunting shotguns, took over the production of the MR 73.

Some claim quality is not on par with original guns. As far as finish, I find it hard to believe. Mechanically and reliability wise I cannot judge, since I have less than 2000 rounds through mine.

I bought this revolver brand new in 2009 (so it is a Chapuis build), cost $ 2000.

It’s a very well made revolver, the blueing is very deep and rich. Mechanically it is very tight.

Stunning !! My idea of a fine pedigreed stable of beautiful and high quality blued revolvers would be; one of each; Manurhin, Korth, Colt Python, S&W 19, and a Dan Wesson. I don't have the funds to pull it off, but I'd love to see a collection like that

Nice gun, not sure of the difference between the older ones and the newer. Someone will chime in that knows. Have a 4” import Target model that I had reblued to look like it was when new. Your Nill grips look great and a good addition to the gun. The Chapuis Guns have gone up in price, they now go for over 3 G’s new. Nice custom gun that is very accurate.

What bullets do you use? Like the pointed look they have. Larry

Those are Serbian Prvi Partizan (PPU), widely sold here and cheap.















Those numbers are metric, equates to 1542 FPS and 834 Ft-Lb

I saw one for sale used at my Local Gun shop this summer...fit and finish as good or a bit better then a Old Colt Python. Its a shame the French can build a quality revolver but not a Car... Citron comes to mind...stranded on the motorway many a time.

Fantastic revolver!

A Manurhin MR73 is on my wish list. The MR73 and Korth revolvers are the finest made wheelguns in current production. Those who think the Python is the end all be all of revolvers have obviously never heard of a Manurhin or Korth.

The MR73 is an amazing revolver. I only have originals, but I've shot the Chapuis version and I will definitely say they are a lot closer to the old models than the new Korths are to the original Ratzeburg Korths.

The problem is that a nice original commercial MR73 or Korth Combat are HUGE dollars.

I like your list of fine DA revolvers, but as good as the M19 is, it doesn't deserve to be in that company. If you're going S&W, its the Registered Magnum all the way. Clunky Dan Wesson doesn't even belong in the conversation, in my opinion.

Here's a couple vintage Korth Combats, Manurhin MR73's, and Colt Pythons from my personal collection. I threw a 1935 S&W Registered Magnum in for good measure.
