A hi-cap pocket pistol: Beretta PX4 sc
I never liked polymer. All my guns are wood and steel /alloy.
Today I changed my mind. I needed a small, lightweight, big(ish) bore pistol for carry when I need deep concealment.
I relented a accepted that the polymer wonder-pistols fill that role.
Here’s my first polymer wonder: Beretta PX4 subcompact .40 S&W.
It’s actually smaller than my S&W 649, and it holds twice the capacity.
I’m keeping my steel and alloy guns for sure, but I’ve accepted the advantages of polymer.

I'd wager that is a handful when you pull the trigger.

The 649 can be such a handful too, with 158 gr. JHP Magnums.

I'd wager that that Beretta is much less of a handful than a J frame stoked with magnum loads.
I have handled a little Beretta like that but didn't get to shoot it. They're pretty nice.

That is one sharp looking pistol. Beretta really did a good job with the PX4 series. Unlike most polymer guns, the PX4 has those graceful lines usually only seen in the older metal frame guns.

Congrats, the PX4 family of pistols is so underrated. The "Compact Carry" model especially is an excellent CCW piece.

You would be surprised. The rotating barrel on these Berettas absorbs a lot of the felt recoil, making them a pleasure to shoot. They are a bit bulky, but fill the hand nicely.
Good luck with it, and enjoy!

Sadly, the subcompact variants do not use the rotating barrel mechanism.

I once owned a PX4 SC, but it was a 9mm. Nice gun, but the grip was a little too chubby for my preference, and it felt pretty slick. I could have tried out a grip sleeve, I guess, but that would have made it even chubbier.
Congrats on your new gun!

GOOD! you bought it in a REAL caliber! Congrats. I agree with the musings mentioned here. The PX series of Beretta's are grossly underrated. They work, they have old school DA/SA actions (which I like). But they're not striker fired and some less informed shooters think that striker guns are the be all to end all. Well, I disagree as do many others. Fresno CA Police pack them & seem to like them. The S. African Police Service uses them too. Check out the insane pursuit of a SAPS motor officer in a rolling gun battle on his motorcycle...and he reloads while riding after the baddies. Pretty crazy video.
So yea, there's nothing wrong with a PX4. I've shot them, I like them and the full size .40 has less felt recoil than a Glock 22.

Great choice. I've got two in 9, a full size and compact and like 'em both a lot. The big one is my bedside gun with a headlight hung underneath; the compact, one of my regular EDC.
I looked into getting a subcompact to round out the family but after checking the dimensions, it isn't that much smaller than the compact, it's too big for pocket carry (how I carry my Shield), and I decided on a .380EZ for the wife).
I considered a full-size in .45 but went with a Sig 220 to keep my Sig 220 in 9mm company. Plus I got a good deal with a 22 conversion slide and mags thrown in.
Enjoy.
