Question Keep Shield or upgrade to Sig P365?

Seems many are replacing their Shields with the P365 and i will say the 365 interests me and i will look at 1 if i ever see 1!

Anybody here got 1 yet or planning on getting 1?

I'm standing in a very long line but have no plan to dispose of my Shield.

Default I got to handle one

The Sig P365 is a nice pistol. I would not part with my Shield though if I were to buy the P365. Sig has a reputation for releasing products prematurely (Mosquito, P250, P320) and working out the kinks later.

For size comparison, here is the Sig P365 with a Sig P320c and a Glock 43.

Question

I just wonder if all the issues with the 1st batches like front sight falling off, not going in battery, slide not locking back and the barrel and frame peening is actually fixed?

I know its Striker fired but wonder if it can also be hammer fired like the P320 when hit or dropped?

Its looks nice from pictures but will have to hold 1 to see, have a Glock 27, Keltec PF9 and the Shield.

Currently the 365 is a "Unicorn" and on GB they go for $799. + CC fees and $30. shipping !

The online price was $499. which they should go back to when more are available!

Those were sold out in minutes! Was getting ready to check 1 out and saw they were sold out!

If i buy 1 i will wait to see if all issues were fixed, since on the P320 MHS guns they still cant fix them as of 2 weeks ago and are now wanting the Army to replace their sealed tamper resistant trigger group with the civilian trigger group!

I found 10 round mags for the Sig P365 at a gun shop yesterday for pennies under a $50.00 bill. No pistols though.

From ALL I have read and seen, I would wait a while.....

Why? Just to make sure the 365 has been corrected in all aspects of functionality and dependability...I figure this will take about 6 months once they are really in the pipe line....

6 months of ready availability will determine if all has been corrected with this new gun.........

Personally, I am going with the Shield 2.0 9mm with magguts +2 springs in all the mags....I will never part with my Shield 45 and just love the way it handles, and I have never had a problem with the 45 or my 9 1.0 prior to the 45.

I will leave the 365 for others....but even if I wanted one, I would wait for the results to be proven.

Get a CZ RAMI. Subcompact 10 and 14 Rd mags. Hammer with safety or decocker, and wonderful CZ ergonomics.

I got my Shield during the rebate period and have just a bit over $200 in it. The Sig 365 would cost at least $400 plus the Shield. The only real advantage is 3 more rounds and perhaps bragging rights for having the latest and greatest. A couple of extra mags and the Shield is in the comfort zone. I am happy with the Shield and have no desire to trade it.

To me what is important is smaller size & weight & lot more ammo, thus easier to carry & conceal, but till i feel 1 i really cant say, my PF9 is nice and works great weighs 12.9 oz but doesn't feel all that great or comfy shooting it!

A carry gun must be almost disposable unless you have the money to replace it. I don't see a point in moving from a Shield that works fine to something else that needs gun + more mags + holster as well.

I will save my money for something different.

I am number 700 on a waiting list to get mine, and that is just one gun store. I figure by the time my number comes around I should have one with all the latest fixes.

I probably won't get rid of my shield but I want a P365. As others have stated, I'm not looking to jump in right now. Mainly because of the issues. I'll wait until the fixes land in the models hitting dealers rather than having to send it back. Until then I love my Shield.

If the demand is that high for them I can't imagine the factory working slowly and carefully to fix everything first. They are more likely to make them as fast as they can and sell them then worry about warranty items later. I've shot a lot of Sigs and I like them better than most guns but not as well as others, so I have never owned one and don't feel like I'm missing much.

I am keeping my Shield, since I put in the Hyve trigger I have become very fond of it. But I have ordered a P365, and also bought a P365 blue gun, which has arrived and convinced me the P365 will become my EDC when it finally arrives. In NYS, where we have a 10 round limit, the P365 is a dream come come true: the capacity of the M&P9C in a thinner, more concealable size.

I don't see it as an "upgrade" and so won't be buying one. I am very happy with my Shield 45 and plan to keep it.

The P365 is alluring, is it not? I’m going to pass though as I am too invested in Shield magazines and holsters. I’m done chasing after a “better gun”.

I recently fondled the new 365 at my LGS, but Meh, I'll keep my Shields. When I first got my Shields a few years ago, I had a love / hate relationship with them, but quickly came to love and appreciate them. Not being a LEO, security or other armed professional, I find my Shields to meet all my requirements for concealed carry. Sometimes I "Think" I need something BIGGER to carry, but than I slap myself and come back to reality.

Upgrade is the word that I got stuck on too. Like some others here, just not seeing the 365 as an upgrade.

Lets see! Weighs less, shorter , thinner, easier to conceal and holds much more "Ammo"!

Sounds like an Upgrade to me! What's the old saying " If it looks like an Upgrade, carries like an Upgrade and shoots like an Upgrade then it's an "Upgrade"!

Need to see how it holds in my hand!

Who are “many” and where are “they” finding them? I like Sig but something about that model bothers me... as far as a CCW, I can’t imagine it shooting better then my Shield(s). If you carry for a living, you get comfortable with gun of choice and stick with it. If you need it, being unfamiliar with it may be costly. If you use it and are lucky enough to go home afterwards, it won’t be going home with you....

There are a LOT of pistols out there that feel great when fondling them at the counter. The REAL question is how do they feel to SHOOT, compared to the Shield?

The XD-S Feels nice to fondle, but doesn't feel as nice to shoot as the Shield, even though it's a bit heavier. If it did feel nicer to shoot, I'd be owning one of them, instead of my Shield.

The PF-9 weighs less, is slightly smaller in all dimensions and feels very nice to fondle, but is very harsh to shoot. I owned one and carried it for 3 Yrs before trading it for my Shield. The list goes on.

Before giving up your Shield for a P365, try one first and shoot them side-by-side.

There's an old saying: the grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence. Could it be an upgrade for you? Sure, if in fact it does all those things (weighs less, shorter, thinner, easier to conceal, and shoots better) but a couple of those things are subjective. What you think is easier to conceal and shoots better may not be the same to me. Length, weight, and width are all factual, of course, but how they "feel" to each person can vary. Some people actually like to conceal carry a full size 1911...and while I really like my SR1911 CMD, I don't want to carry it. Different strokes for different folks.

I don't criticize anyone for liking one gun more than another. I like what I have, and at this point in life, I'm content with what I have, and don't have any plans to change. I hope each gun owner has the luxury of owning a gun he really likes, and that works really well for him.

And... With it being a Brand New item, if it goes like so many other new platforms, Spare mags (and other accessories) will be hard to find for several Months.
The forums will be FULL of threads like:
Who Has Spare Mags
Who Makes A Holster For...
Who Makes Night Sights For...
Who Makes A Trigger Kit For...
and more.

Thumbs down I saw one

I saw one in a gun shop for "display only". They only had the one and it was NOT for sale. I will keep my Glock 26, as it too holds 10 rounds. As for smaller, I have my Shield and my Bodyguard380. Not impressed, besides everything Sig releases now, gets recalled.

Very "True" but the Shield weighs 3oz more than the P365 so with 3 more rounds depending on ammo the P365 still weighs less!

I hope there was no one behind that camera, otherwise that guy muzzled them throughout the entire video.

I have a Kahr CM9 for small size. I've always coveted Sig but never pulled the trigger.

Need to see how it holds in my hand!
Yeah...barrel and slide peening, serious issues going into battery and other feeding problems, and only 2x the price!!!!

Not seeing how a possible jam-o-matic is an "upgrade". Maybe 6 months to a year from now...

Question

Agree 100%, which is why i am waiting for a while, however these issues on "Some" have been fixed or so they say which is why i am waiting!

Even Shield had issues when 1st released as did all of the Gen 4 Glocks, but with Sig and the P320 Fiasco which they still cant fix with the Military guns its is more concerning!

I also i am concerned if 365 is drop safe, since the trigger looks the same as on the 320 with no trigger safety like gadget? Have not heard about this but took yrs. before it showed up on the 320.

When i get 1 it will be back-up to my Shield 9+1 rds.or Glock(27X) 13+1 rds.

For me i think it would be a perfect back-up once the issues are fixed!

I agree about all the other issues but am not worried about the P365 being drop safe. After the 320 fiasco one of the first thing a some of early adopters did was hit the 365 with a mallet trying to get it to go off. None of them did. Sig would have been foolish to release another gun with that issue.

I've shot Shields and while they are nice guns, it feels like I'm gripping a 1X2 board. I went with a Kahr CM9 and it has fit me well. I shoot it well and it has never had a jam. That being said, I saw a Sig P 365 at the range and handled it. It compares in size to the Kahr CM9 and quite a bit smaller than the Shield. It is truly a pocket pistol, like the Kahr CM9 and with the extra capacity, it looks like it could replace my Kahr. I have one on pre-order and should have it in a few months. By that time all the kinks will have been worked out. I'll give it a chance to replace the Kahr, because of the extra capacity, but it has a hard row to hoe to beat the CM9.

I have not heard of any drop tests done with the 365 or even mentioned!

Does seem like we do have a lot of Sig fans here i only have a 229 enhanced Elite in .40 and do love it but only had it a few months.

I may have to walk my previous comment back. I clearly remember seeing at least one video on Youtube where someone hit the back of his P365 with a mallet trying to get it to go off. But when I tried to find that video to post a link I couldn't find it. It either got buried in a flood of P365 videos or got caught in some sort of YouTube gun channel purge.

I can understand not wanting to throw your brand new gun on a concrete floor. But given all the 320 issues I am surprised more people did not try hitting it with a mallet.

It is because of the hours of training I have put in with my shield and the comfort level I have with it. Carrying the shield for me is like leaving the house with my wallet in my pocket, it is just something you do and sometimes you don't even know it is there.

When I consider cost of a carry pistol I factor in my hours of time required and sometime the confusion that comes along with it. Meaning carrying a Shield and having developed muscle memory and great reaction time, while practicing and getting familiar with the P365. This change is costly to me. I am no professional operator so for me this takes time to build confidence in a new pistol before I start to carry it. Having said that I feel like a big hippocrit as I do not factor in cost of time while reloading because it is so relaxing LOL.

If it were to be used as a range pistol then all of this changes
Obviously I cannot argue with your earnestly held opinion, but I have to say that when I switch occasionally from my full size M&P's to the Shield for IPDA-style practice I find it less disruptive with each passing year. You slowly become a "pistolero" and the things that were one hard -- picking up the sights, etc., slowly become more instinctive. It is good to allow for change -- you may someday have to fight with the gun you took from the BG.

I like to be on the trailing edge of things. Especially with companies that have a somewhat spotty reputation when it comes to quality issues.

So, no.
