Many Shields still have issues with Slide Lock spring/bar locking gun down and there still are the mag spring issues, not to good + they were all recalled in the past also (seems also spotty quality) despite doing a lot of research i did not find out about these issues till after i bought the Shield.

If i had known don't think i would have got 1 since i had to buy Wolff spring for all my mags.

I can understand not wanting to throw your brand new gun on a concrete floor. But given all the 320 issues I am surprised more people did not try hitting it with a mallet.

I have not seen or even heard it discussed but hear that unless a Striker pistol has a trigger safety like Glock, it could fire and only took 5 yrs. to find out with P320!

Exclamation

Out of the current Famous guns the ones are not "Drop Safe" Sig P320, Walther PPS, Honor Guard, Turkish Caniks sold by Century and no telling how many more?

Honor guard disputes this but it is proven they are not safe and the P320 and the Caniks are voluntary "Upgrades" and with Caniks U pay ship both ways!

Sig is still not able to fix the Drop Safe issue with the Military P320 guns, which have a different trigger unit( which is tamper proof) but now they have been breaking apart and Sig wants the Army to use the Civilian type triggers but also their other issues have not been fixed.

I would not want a P320 even if upgraded since this gun has has issues from day 1!

Rcently bought a Sig 229 Enhanced Elite and it is "Fantastic"!

I think the Shield is superb. And with 2,000,000 out there, fairly well proven.

It would be a viable strategy, though, to buy a P365 and run a direct comparo, and then -- if the P365 disappoints -- sell it. Used P365's will bring high bucks for a while.

But much of the equation behind successfully applying a handgun to a problem is experience and practice. I think I've hurt my accumulation of expertise, over the years, by having too many different platforms, so why add one more? At this stage in life, my J frames are easy to carry and likely to be along with me, summer or winter. The Shield fits -- and the P365 would fit -- a narrow band for use, mostly those times when I can afford the luxury of having a holster and carrying more rounds, e.g., a walk in the woods in winter.

The other guns around here go from there, e.g., not likely to be carried, except when open carry is feasible and won't draw censure. The J is most likely to be carried. So, for me, and I suspect for others who carry the smallest thing that can be assessed to do the task, there is not so much need to replace the Shield - it fits a niche anyway.

Now, if the P365B came with a hammer, it would be different - the Shield would be sold off. I'd love to have ALL and ONLY hammer fired handguns.

In my case the reason the P365 interests me is it seems to be the smallest and most high cap picket pistol ever!

The shield is not a Pocket pistol, i also carry a Keltec P32 but its only 7/8 +1 and .32 cal.

So once some issues get worked out, the P365 will the best most powerful and smallest/lightest High cap pistol available.

I am one of the lucky few who did get a P365 at BassPro. Mine has been flawless. As for giving up my Shield for one, I wouldn't. The main advantage of the P365 for me is to pocket carry. I can't do that with the Shield. But for IWB, I have the Shield with the +2 Magguts which give me 9+1 with the (originally) 7-round magazines. At least for me, the Shield is a very stable, reliable carry.

I stumbled on "...or even heard it discussed but hear..."

However, here are a couple examples that don't comply with what you hear: Walther P99AS, H&K P7s are striker fired and have no trigger safeties at all. The P7s in particular will not fire when whacked. They can't. The P99AS has two drop safeties and a firing pin block, no other safeties but does have a decocker. They work just fine amd I'm sure there are others that don't follow the Glock example..

Nottawa much of an upgrade. Especially given sigs many issues with the 365 and most all of their polymer pistols. An upgrade would be to a m&p 9c or a 45c for a few reasons
Mag compatibility assuming your weapon system is m&p
PROVEN reliability
& capacity.
An even better upgrade would be to a full size m&p.

It's apples to oranges. The Shield is a larger pistol, appropriately carried in an IWB or OWB holster. The Sig P365 is a true pocket pistol with higher capacity. As an owner of the Sig P320 Compact with upgraded trigger and probably around 1,000 rounds through it now, I'm not afraid of Sig polymer pistols. Too many comments about Sig P320's are from those with no experience and just piling on IMHO. Many new designs have had growing pains.

Finally found the "Unicorn" the Sig P365 in person (but did not "Buy" it for $499.).

Here is my Honest Non-biased & Non shooting review of the 365.

Here is a little background info on me, am 6ft tall, weigh 160 lbs and pants size is 33" waist & 34" long wear belt size 36' due to always carrying IWB deep cover Glock 27X and my Glove size is medium (lower end) and no "Beer Belly.

Have many compact mini pistols & revolvers and i mainly was looking at the P 365 as a Backup/pocket pistol for my Glock 27X since the 365 is "Highly Touted" as a "Micro Pistol" which it is not!!!!

Was out of town and stopped by Smokey Mt. Guns &Ammo in Sevierville,Tn. and they had a bunch of the new/upgraded ones and i was shocked how big the thing(P365) actually is.

Compact yes, semi-compact maybe but "Micro" Compact No way in "He-l" to big to carry for me in my Blue Jeans, Cargo Pants maybe?

The gun looks great, nitride finish, sights and the grip is slightly but comfortably texturized but not as heavy as the M&P 2.0 and with the 1 mag was way to short in front of my grip and also in back of my palm o not very good feel or even comfortable to me, with the other 10 rd. mad it has a pinky extension and it felt better up front in grip but also lacking to me any good grip in back in palm, little finger barely fit front grip with the extension.

Then I'm inserted a 12 rd. mag and it felt good both front & rear of grip, but added1" or more. So i did & do not see any need for me to get it.

In size the P365 is 100% identical to my PF9 except the PF9 is thinner and much lighter, so if you like me have a PF9 or Shield i don't see any reason to get the P365.

My PF9 in order to fit my grip comfortably i did add a +! mag extension and it is great, on my Shield it does not to me feel comfy with the 7 rd mag and barely with the 8 rd. mag soi ot a +2 extension and now my grip is felling 100% good in front and back!

So or now i will use my P32 with +1 mag/grip ext. as my back-up since to me no sense to get a P365, but may still get 1 if prices come down and if all bugs get worked out?

PF9 ------------ Shield ------ P365
Barrel 3.1" ------ 3.1" ------ 3.1"
Length 5.85" ------ 6.1" ------ 5.8"
Height 4.3" ------ 4.3" ------ 4.3"
Weight 12.7oz. ---- 19oz. ------ 17.8oz.
Width .88" ------ .95" ------ 1.0"

All guns weight & measured empty with flat bottom mag bases!

I never knew it was considered a Micro size pistol. To me it is mainly a direct competitor of the Shield and G43. I went with a Shield for an extra round and I can get a decent 2.5 finger grip on the frame w/ the flush mag. But I always grew curious of the G43 just because of the slightly smaller size.

I ended up modding the Shield grip (it is pretty thin) and can get a decent time on a Bill Drill w/ a Shield in 40 because of it. I shoot the Shield well overall, but can't help but be curious of something smaller (G43, now P365) but have more capacity than the Shield (and was the G43's downfall, without aftermarket mag extensions).

I don't pocket carry, I AIWB a Shield and a Glock 19 and while the Shield disappears in comparison, how much more would a smaller (G43 or P365) be...

Gee, I compared my Kahr CM-9 to the Sig P365 and it looked almost exactly the same size. I think the Kahr is a micro sized 9mm. The Kahr CM-9 is a pocket sized pistol (I've been carrying one daily for years) and I think the Sig P365 is also in the same category, but more ammo capacity.

They only had stopped production a few days and did some changes! Here is a 1 day old vid of 2 guys using the gun from Harrys Holster" Guy where Harry had many issues and they had none! Vid will explain the Upgrades.

Nice gun but not for Pocket carry and not a "Micro" Pistol as advertised!

As i said before for my pockets my PF9 which is same size as P365 and thinner is to big for me to carry in pocket.

My P32 fits in my pocket perfect. But to each his/her own!

Default YOU ARE ONTO SOMETHING THERE.

Now, if the P365B came with a hammer, it would be different. I'd love to have ALL and ONLY hammer fired handguns.[/QUOTE]

AMEN! I like & am used to the DA/SA SIGS, hammers and all.

True enough that many shields have been sold. How long have they been used, or available? A tic in time of some other OLD favorites.

Great video. Hickok45 thinks that the Sig P365 is actually a pocket pistol:

I would really like to get my hands on one of these, but no local gun shops have one.

I'm wondering if it is actually is small enough to work as a pocket gun. I really wish it were a true DAO since I don't really like the idea of sticking a single-action striker-fired auto in a pocket. Even a true DAO striker-fired would have been acceptable.

Meaning of "Upgrade"!

1.raise (something) to a higher standard, in particular improve (equipment or machinery) by adding or replacing components.

"upgraded computers" ·
[more]

synonyms: improve · better · make better · ameliorate · reform · enhance · add to ·

I started this Thread using the term Upgrade and comparing the P365 to my PF9/Shield it is a Upgrade, since it holds more
ammo, is better build/looking and more ergonomic while smaller than similar guns!

I don't consider it a Micro-Compact but Sub-compact, but no way is it a Pocket pistol unless Cargo pants, Coat or Jacket pockets work fine.

A Micro pistol is like a P32, NAA .32 or a Seecamp or a NNA .22 mini revolver, but some consider the Shield as a Pocket pistol

My PF9 which is same height/length but weighs 5.1oz less and is a lot thinner and i and never heard anybody call it a micro or pocket pistol, but a sub compact!
It still is the lightest & thinnest 9mm ever but to big (for me) to be a pocket pistol!

Some consider the Shield a Pocket Pistol but most don't and its slide is less then 1/4" longer than P365.

Never seen a Kahr9 but the name seems to have issues!

In the end, my ability to use a gun is more important than measurements.

The Nano beats the 365/Shield and even PF9 in height/length
but is considered a Sub-compact!

Beretta BU9 Nano Sub-Compact Pistol Specs:

•Caliber: 9mm.
•Capacity: 6 rounds (8 with extended magazine)
•Overall Length: 5.6 inches.
•Barrel Length: 3.07 inches.
•Height: 4.2 inches.
•Width: 0.9 inches.
•Weight (empty): 20 ounces.
•Trigger: DAO, striker fired.

Always wanted 1 but to many issues in past, but now fixed or so they say!

I agree with U 1000% however this thread is about sub-compact pistols!

As i said the P365 to me only fits my hand/grip only good with the 12 rd. mag, the Shield only with a+2 extension on the 7 rd. mag and the FP9 with a +1 mag ext. and my P32 with a +1 extension.

If i am in a shoot out i want to have a full grip rather then a partial unstable one!

I chased the perfect concealed carry for a few years, bought a Shield 9 when they first came out then caught the glock bug, bought a 43, sold the Shield, when to an LC9 etc etc....Just picked up a Shield 2.0 in 9, what a sweet shooting gun, conceals well, some guns conceal better but you can shoot this all day and carry as well, can't do that with many. I still carry an LCRX357 as well, but I think the shield is going to be carried 90% of the time, oh yea have a G42 and that is nice and light when I need something like that. Price wise you really can't beat a Shield. Yes I like Sigs, have three, P226, M11 and P225.

Hickock45 is 6'5" and I'll bet his pockets are sufficient to warrant "pocket pistol." I'm just under 6' and can easily accommodate pistols similar in size to this in a pocket holster, Wrangler jeans:

P99C AS 9mm
Model: 2796376
Caliber: 9mm
Barrel Length: 3.5"
Trigger Pull: DA: 9 lbs/SA: 4.5 lbs
Trigger Travel: DA: 0.6"/SA: 0.3"
Capacity: 10 rds, plus 1

Overall Length: 6.6"
Height: 4.3"
Safety: 3 Auto
Width: 1.3"
Weight Empty: 21.5 oz

So, for me, that's "pocket pistol" size.

Some others that qualify (for me):

P30SK

Caliber--Length--Height--Width---Barrel---Capacity
9x 19–––-6.42in.-4.57in.-1.37in.–3.27 in.-10+1

P2000SK

Px4 Storm SubCompact
feels a bit fat for my pocket but close, IMO
Action-----------------SA/DA
Barrel length (in)----------3
Caliber------------------9x19
Magazine------------------13
Overall height (in)-------4.8
Overall length (in)------6.22
Overall width (in)-------1.42
Sight radius (in)----------4.8
Weight unloaded (OZ)--26.1

THIS^

I'm at around 2000 now through 2 Shields (gave my first to my gf) I'm confident in my ability with it. I have become very well acquainted with my Shield but I couldn't hit 6" steel at 10 yards with it when I first got it.

Sadly I think you have to own it to know... some range time with a rental may not suffice in my opinion.

my loyalty lies with Smith and Sig equally, my P226 is as flawless as they come and with that being said in approx. 1800 rds through my Shield I have NEVER had one failure of any kind, It will take a lot for me to replace my Shield anytime soon as my edc

Not all handguns suit all folks. Isn't it wonderful that there are so many choices! That being said, when one makes a sweeping statement that only certain handguns are suitable for pocket carry, one must expect push back. I'm sure that some folks don't consider a S&W 642 suitable for pocket carry. So tell me about your unhappy experiences with Kahr pistols. BTW, I don't consider AK's to be useful beyond shotgun distances.

I have 1500+ rounds through my 9mm Shield and not one failure. No light strike, no jams, nothing. 7+1 or 8+1, depending on the mag I carry.

I'm not going to spend more money for another gun and more money for ammo just so I can carry an extra 3 rounds.

More generally, I have what I need for now. I've been on the "buy the latest and greatest" merry-go-round before, and all it does (for me) is leave me unsatisfied, as I'm always "looking for more" and in the "Oh, if I had only waited until *THIS* gun was released" mode of regret.

I carry either a J-frame, a Shield, or a 1911. Each is proven and I practice with each regularly.

I understand the allure of the P365, and new guns in general. But at some point I just stopped buying the latest and greatest. Funny thing is all of my recent purchases are the "old school" 1911s.

If others enjoy getting a new carry gun and shooting the heck out of it for a year or two until the next new thing comes along, then that is great for them and I have no problem with their practice. Do what you enjoy doing. It's just not for me.

Hallelujah to all the above......been carrying and shooting Shields for 5 years, never once had a problem with the 9 or the 45.....totally trust and have full confidence in the shield platform.......in the process of getting a new 2.0 9 and adding magguts +2 to the seven rounder for carry and magguts +2 to the 8 rounders for spare carry...So I will have a 10 round handgun but more important one that has proved itself over and over and over.

AKdude: I have one on order. I refuse to pay the premium some dealers are trying to get right now, so there's no telling when I'll get it.

My experience with Sig Arms isn't as extensive as with S&W, but those who disparage their quality, I would submit that Sig has had fewer quality issues than many other companies. I've had zero quality issues with the Sigs I've owned and found them to be on a par with anyone else out there, with the possible exception of custom made arms, and superior to several. My first Sig, Model P228, has been a case study in what a medium-compact pistol should be. It's never failed to fire or feed anything I've put in the magazine, including some reduced power rounds I use in a modified HP for target use only. After buying this, I also bought a P230 (which I made the mistake of selling, and recently replaced with another one from a forum member). The fixed barrel 230 was capable of keeping everything in the black at 25 yards, certainly more than adequate for self defense. I've also owned or own a P210, a P220 and a P226. I will say the 226 did balk at target 9's but I certainly can't blame the pistol for that, since those rounds were never designed to work in that gun.

If the P365 is as good as my other Sigs have been, I'll be happy. And I'm betting it will be.

I may still get a 365 in a few months, but sadly Sig cant seem to fix the MHS pistols but did fix the civilian versions, but these have a different trigger control assembly and Sig is now wanting the Military to use the new civilian trigger packs.

But some guns Sig never was able to fix like the "Infamous" Mosquito", so who really knows.

When the Glock 42's came out it took 3+ yrs. before Glock was able to fix those issues, Beretta could never fix the Tomcat and after yrs. in production their Nano & Pico and Neos are still very un reliable!

Back about 1998 saw at show a Vector CP1 pistol and it was the best looking pistol and handling i ever seen, but i knew about it was not drop safe, but this was a new version which was said to be safe but still wasnt.

So later the company put about another recall and bought all guns back for $100. more than people paid but then quit production in 2001.

Before the 2nd Fix (not) they had issued a statement saying don't keep gun loaded and take it & store it apart while were working to fix it, which took almost 2 yrs. before they figured out a fix which also didn't work!

Besides the P320 Fiasco, the Century imported Caniks also have the same issue not drop safe and they have a Voluntary Upgrade but U pay ship both ways.

Then there is the Honor Guard also not drop safe, but they have & will not issue a Voluntary Upgrade or Recall!

To me the 365 feels only fairly decent in hand with a 12 rd. mag and even then not perfect to me and i have medium size hands (on the smaller side)!

I always carry a G27X (13 rd. mag with grip ext.) and would like the 365 as a back up, but will stick with my Keltec P32 for that which with a +1extension fits my hand fine, but we all have different size hands and comfort levels.

I do find it sad that Sig says many of the 365 issues are user induced, but rubbing slide, touching slide lever, limp wristing etc.. this if true shows the guns design is not good for may peoples hand shapes!

"I do find it sad that Sig says many of the 365 issues are user induced, but rubbing slide, touching slide lever, limp wristing etc.. this if true shows the guns design is not good for may peoples hand shapes!"

Must have learned that from Glock.

When the Gen 4 Glock 19 came out numbers of shooters immediately started having brass-to-face ejection problems. I know since I had two G19s that both had gross BTF, as in at least half of each magazine full hit me in the face with hot empties.

If your Glock had all the updated parts, as mine did, Glock would send your gun back unaltered. And the rabid Glock fan boys derided everyone who mentioned it on forums by saying they didn't know how to hold the gun, they used weak ammo, they limp wristed it or some other lame brained excuse.

Nope, it was the gun itself. After much time, frustration and a fair amount of money chasing every fix recommended on forums I finally heard of the Apex Glock extractor kit and installed one in each of my two G19s. Instant fix that remains fixed to this day several years later.

Glocks poor quality extractors was the problem on my guns and many others. Apex makes a lot of money fixing Glocks problem that Glock has never gotten around to acknowledging publically. At least Sig publically said there was a problem with the P365 and they are/have fixed it.

I have no dog in the Sig good/bad fight as I no longer own any Sigs and don't plan to buy the P365 or any other Sig.

But, it does seem Sig gets a lot of knocks for the same things that Glock gets a pass on. Sort of like the media treatment of the two major political parties. One gets smiles and back pats no matter how bad they are while the other gets fists and middle fingers no matter how good they are. I'm a 20 year Glock owner who currently owns five of them so I'm not a Glock hater in any way. I'm also not brand loyal so I can see the double standard that some people apply to Glock versus other brands.

As far as the Army's choice of the Sig P320 as a result of their handgun trial program my opinion is this. If they took as long as they did and spent as much tax payers money as they did and never found out on their own the now reported problems with the 320 then they have only their bureaucratic little selves to blame. A good example of incompetent government in action.

Smaller and lighter does not always make it better. Unless you want to use it for pocket carry, the 365 is too small, at least for me. I do admit I have never even held one, but still the Shield is just the right size for me. Small enough to carry and conceal easy, and big enough to shoot well.

I kind of relate to this post, as the Shield has worked very well for me.

Still, all the while I've fantasized about the smaller/lighter Glock 43 but the lacking capacity made it somewhat easy to resist.

Still, I carry either a Shield or a Glock 19, 2-3 ounces difference in dry weight so the capacity, weight and dimensions of the P365 are such an appeal to me.

My very last concern is being able to shoot the P365 well and not even a rental will confirm or deny that concern. I couldn't hit 6" steel at 10 yards when I was new to the Shield, now some range days I shoot better with it than my 19.

Wait for the p365 to show up as a range rental and give it time. Fire it yourself see how it compares to the shield 9mm. Then if you can trust the range guys, ask them about how well the p365 holds up, magazines and all. That would be a safe non impulsive way to feel the p365 out. Of course most of us being lame we'd just go buy it if that itch got too severe.

After thinking about it a little more, I sounded a little too harsh on the Sig 365. I should not judge a pistol I have never even held. I don't think I would want a carry pistol any smaller than my Shield, but I may change my mind one day.

I also think the P365 is a little to small in grip for me, but with the 12 rd. mag its almost okay, but then my Shield is to small in grip for me with a 7 rd. mag and while the 8 rd. mag is better still feels a little to small in back of palm and i put a +2 mag ext. on my 7 rd. mag and it feels perfect!

Which +2? Just from lookin' at pix on the internets, the Strike Industries one looks like it'd be comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.

I think it may be a "great" (if no more problems arise) gun for people with small hands. For those of us with large hands I think it may be a problem....Saw Big Johnson of Guns and Gear try to hold one....as he stated he could probably blow his thumb off if he held it correctly.......

Yet Hickok45 had no trouble at all. Too much speculation here without any experience.

The Strike EMP is the 1 which i used on the 7 rd. mag works and fits my hands perfectly, especially in rear of my Palm!

The extension also works on the 8 rd. mag but does not look good, since the 8 mag already has a extension.

To me the Shield grip with a 7 rd mag feels not very comfortable and with the 8 rd mag still leaves a lot to be desired, the Strike extension on the 7 rd. mag feels perfect in my hand and even rear of palm.

I rather have a gun a little larger which feels good to me even if it has 2 rds less than a smaller gun which holds more but is harder to shoot.

But we all have different hands and to each his own!

PS.
I have held (but not shot) the P365 with both a 10 & 12 rd. mag and most say use the 12 rd. mag.

From a subjective standpoint, nothing is an upgrade if it doesn't work for any particular individual. I too hope any bugs that supposedly exist do get worked out. That will happen. Lot's of times manufacturers make minor changes and call them upgrades. However, in the case of the P365, denying that it would be an upgrade to all other single stack pistols in this size category, is, in my opinion, simply turning a blind eye to the obvious. It weighs less, is shorter and thinner and even holds more rounds. Any objective analysis should deem that to clearly be an upgrade. I am a Shield lover and own 4. If it fits me as well and shoots as well for me, it is an upgrade to which I look forward. If it doesn't fit me, then it won't replace my Shields.
