SCYY, PSA, Seecamp, Beretta M85 - Miscellaneous range report
So I took a few guns to the range over the weekend. Four of them are discussed here; the S&Ws get discussed where they belong.
SCYY - 9mm
It's their original model, CPX-1, purchased because I am a child and I like red things.
The only issue I had with it was the magazine stuck after loading 4 rounds. I never could get more into it. But it shot GREAT! Decent accuracy at fighting distances. I was very pleased. It will be a car gun, I think.
PSA - 25 ACP
This Baby Browning replica (bottom left) simply refused to fire more than a couple of rounds before getting stuck. Maybe it's the magazine. If I can't fix it I'll sell it. Fun to shoot, rounds go where I tell them to go, but if it is going to jam it is useless.
Seecamp - 32 ACP
I have finally discovered why Seecamp always insisted that you should only fire Winchester Silvertip .32s in these guns. Not because of any issues in shooting - .32 ACP hardball will NOT fit into the magazine. The bullets protrude too far. Silvertips are stubby and fit fine. But I discovered that after we got home and checked it out so I will know for next time.
Beretta M85 - .380 (no picture)
This gun is always a pleasure to shoot and it is easy to handle. Recoil was stiffer than the 9mm SCCY, which I kind of expected, but I don't know why this is so - so I am asking right here. I expect to be carrying this gun some until I fix my CS-9.
A nice sunny afternoon, well spent!

I was able to use other brands in my Seecamp 32. Just measure the length of the Silvertip and find the same specs in other brands and test them. I carried Federal Hydra-shok in mine. When I had mine Silvertips were hard to find. Now I no longer have the gun but have two boxes of the old style ST.

Which means, I presume, that recoil is more pronounced. I admit I never could quite figure that out.
Thanks.

One thing to remember about the Seecamp, it’s a self defense gun. A plinking gun it’s not because of hardball problems. I use to buy 2 20 rd boxes of the ammo I knew would work, run 2 mag fulls from each box and if it functioned with no problems that would be my carry ammo for the next year or so. Then do it all again.

The barrel doesn’t lock they depend on a stiff spring to keep action closed long enough.
That’s why they’re harder to rack.

Straight blowback 380s kick more than locked breech 9mm pistols. Also, the polymer frame of the SCCY probably flexes ever so slightly, also reducing perceived recoil.

Maybe I was lucky as my Seecamp fired almost any SD ammo I tried. My objection was the recoil that affected my middle finger to the point I sold the gun and bought a Ruger LCP II and never looked back. Not enough overall size change to matter, more bullet diameter, far less recoil.
