I just love High Standard accuracy
Been looking at a few High standards for consignment at my lgs for awhile now. I finally could not take it any longer as they had an early lever takedown Sport King with 6 inch barrel that looks absolutely new on the left side with some surface rust scattered around on the right side. The person was asking $300 so I offered $225 and he said yes. No box and only 1 magazine (expensive little buggers) but looks to have been not shot. Bluing isn't worn off anywhere even on chamber face and where the slide runs back and forth just like new. Looked like it sat on its right side for many years and got some moisture. It is so accurate that I am in need of a longer indoor range and works perfectly with CCI standard velocity. The serial number puts it in the first series between 1951-1954 in either late 53 or into 54. Mine has a slide lock on it which is rare in that series. I found another mag for it at a cost of $45. It really is a lot of fun to shoot so I went back down there to make an offer on a Duramatic, also with 6 inch barrel they had on consignment (mainly for the mag in it and its Bauer Brothers holster). I think the Duramatic is in the 100 series and is the lowest level trim. I believe it was also made in the mid 1950's. It is in perfect shape and the fella wanted $275 for it so I made an offer of $200 and he is also accepting $225. I will pick up the Duramatic on Saturday. Once I get it I will post some pictures of both of them here. Any other High standard lovers here? I would really like to find a Supermatic Trophy that look like a space gun. Must be absolute heaven to shoot one of those higher trim level guns with everything adjustable and sights rigidly attached to barrel so no movement with sights. Now that 22 ammo is cheap and easier to find I have stocked up so I can play a lot with my new toys!

I love High Standard pistols. I have two Citation IIs and a Trophy II and all are tack drivers. High Standard is the only U.S. company to win Olympic gold and I can see why. I also have one of their Double-nine revolvers that is a lot of fun. You just can't go wrong with a High Standard. My only complaint is they can be really finicky on the mag feed lip positioning. It's not uncommon to have to "tune" your magazines.

Yes, my absolute first Gun was an HiStandard mod 103 Olympic .22 short, herited from grandpa. This is the model winner in the Olympics HERE in Rome in 1960. Great shooter, very accurate and relaxing in this sweet caliber. I spent a lot of sundays at the range, and she (it?) is my real teacher

High Standard
Hello fellow HS lover here.
shot one in college 1973-74 on pistol team and have loved them ever since.
Sold college gun but got a Victor later.
I see them regularly at gun shows at $600-$700 and i think thats a great value in todays $.
Mine deserves to be shot more.
Do some ammo testing to see what shoots best.
Standard velocity ammo is great if you can shoot well enough to tell the difference.( i can't any more)

I have a 1975 year Victor made in Hamden. What a tackdriver.
Tuning the magazines is a simple matter of making sure the lips are correct. rear lips ID is .185 and upper front ID is .230.
Enjoy Your Hi Standards.

I've got a 103 Sport King and it's probably the most accurate handgun I've ever shot. The problem with it was that it shot about 4 inches high at 15 yards. I replaced the rear sight with a shorter one and still had to file it down some. Now that I've got that sorted out it is perfect. The trigger pull is about 2.5 lbs. I'm not sure if that was standard, but it's perfect for a target grade range gun.

I've only got one Hi Standard but I really like it. A 1947 vintage H-D Military that will outshoot any of the dozen or so .22 handguns I have.

Daddio, it sounds like you have found the same two Hi Standards that I have. I don’t shoot them often enough, but now that you bought it up, it's time to shoot em.

I have always liked and admired the high Standard line of 22 Target pistols for their superb accuracy and feel in the hand. Back in 1979 when I was deciding to get a High Standard or a M41 I went back & forth for weeks on end. Finally, the deal breaker on the HS for me was the Magazine Release style & location at the bottom of the Grip Frame and the fact that the Slide release was on the "wrong side". I wound up buying the M41 and have had it ever since. It has been a fine Target Pistol.
That said, there are many of my friends and pistol team members that have High Standards and when I shoot them i sometimes shoot them better than my own M41. I think they fit my hands better as well. Who ever designed the Mag. Release and Slide Release must have been a Leftie and a Browning design aficionado - but they are SUPERB Pistols and I often think I made a mistake! I STILL might get one........

Yes sir, I own a Trophy from 74" great gun. Accurate and reliable .
There is a High Standard group on Rimfire Central that you can check out.
Lots of High Standard collectors and some company directors and former employees who really know their High Standard stuff.

Awesome...#1
Awesome ...#2
Two great guns . Sounds like you've been bitten and now have the dreaded HiStandarditis ....The only cure is a Supermatic Trophy !
Sweet deals on both, well done.

I have a couple of the HS model E's.
I think it's the finest model they ever made.

High Standards
At one time about twenty years ago, I had two 107 Series Militaries. A Trophy 5 1/2", and a Citation 7 1/4". Both were extremely accurate and reliable; I wish I hadn't sold them.

I got a Model A in a deal for another gun in a combination transaction (the other gun was the one I really wanted and I asked them to put the Model A in to sweeten the deal) and finally took it to the range with a few boxes of CCI SV - A six o'clock hold at 20 yards will drop into the 10 ring with nearly boring consistency as long as you don't get the yips. Can't recall what ever happened to the gun I really wanted...

Funny the one poster mentioned the slide stop on right side of High Standards. It does make it a pain to load mags as they lock in much better with slide back. The Duramatic I got is too old and does not have a slide lock. I have a Colt pre woodsman also without slide lock. A real pain in the finger holding slide back with finger while locking in magazine. It also forces you to count rounds as your shooting cause it does not lock back after last shot. Well I guess that is shooting OLD SCHOOL.

The Olympic Gold medal reference is a good reminder of just what High Standard invested for the competitive shooter.
Here's a link to a story on High Standard's electronic trigger free pistol.
It was published in Shooting Times (back when the gun press weren't just a bunch of shills).

I always enjoyed shooting my dads JC Higgins Model 80 (a HS Duramatic). What a tack driver! He still has it, so I'm sure someday it will end up with me. It has a 6.5" barrel. Many years ago I found a 4" barrel for sale on Numerich Gun Parts and bought that for the pistol. The Model 80 had had a slab side barrel instead of the round ones like the Dramatics.
Last year I was at a local shop and I ended up purchasing a late 1970s Sport King. It's a great pistols as well, but I haven't shot it much....let!!
Love those HS 22 semi autos!

I've been shooting bullseye target competition with a High Standard Trophy since 1970. The frame on my first Trophy cracked, I believe, because of the 10" barrel length. My current Trophy has a shorter barrel and I use an optic now, but that old 10" barrel is beautiful to look at.
I've tried to use my S&W model 41 and a later High Standard Citation with the "military" grip, but my scores suffer. My hand has been trained for the steeper raked grip.
I've picked up several High Standard magazines at local gun stores (they've come with a model 104 and a couple Sport Kings). Most of my High Standards have the push button-on-frame, post-on-barrel take down system. If my current Trophy ever craps out, I can substitute the 104 or a Sport King frame. I believe that they are great investments.

High Standard pistols are a frequent subject around here. Most guys love 'em. Here is a recent thread with similar sentiments.

I have a HS Supermatic Citation 107 that is a great shooter. Caution should be used when selecting ammunition. Standard Velocity (1100 FPS or less) is the only ammo you should use. HV ammo is known to cause cracks in the frame. HS pistols do not have a feed ramp so proper magazines are paramount for reliable feeding. Genuine HS mags (Hamden or E. Hartford are scarce and expensive. Triple K and others have produced mags that are considered inferior and require more adjustments to function properly. Older HS pistols are quality pistols that once dominated the NRA Bullseye matches.

I think this fact is astounding. I love vintage handguns, and I see a very strange difference in prices of American stuff here in Europe vs USA . I always look for revolver grips, that here are absolutely cheaper: i.e., a set of target k frame grips in Gonçalo Alves are easily found at 50-70 *. An High Standard pistol usually is sold for 300 -400 * (400/500 $). A Bangor Punta blue box...30*, and so on

Bought a Hampton 107 series Victory new in 1974 and have enjoyed the shooting over the years. Its ran many a brick of ammo in the 44 years of being around. An then there is the other new one I am in love with. Last week end was the big AGCA show in Birmingham and of course, we never find things we need. One of the older guys was thinning the herd, late in life and there on his table was a Jim Clark Victor, complete with a 2x Burris Gil Herbard scope. I was in trouble, not sufficient cash to carry my new love home, but thats a great reason to travel to shows in packs, my buddy let me have enough funds to make the purchase. Sunday afternoon, she got the barrel all warm again. Do I need to post the best group of the afternoon? last group was with Eley black box semi auto, "da good stuff". 50 yards, benchrest, 2x scope, 5 shots, Group is 1/2 inch wide and 3/4 inch tall. yep, she was worth every dime and she has a new home and I am in love and plan on popping many a steel target this summer with one of Jim Clarks specials. The trigger is unreal.
PS, need magazines?, Alan Aronstein (sp?) who was Texas HS a few years ago is in business as interarms and selling HS stuff, His magazines are tempered like the originals and are top quality, purchased a couple three years ago and quality as good as the old HS factory magazines.
