Default Sig P365 in hand with comparisons Update with Range Time

Picked up the P365 last Friday, and just thought I'd share some comparisons to other small carry guns. I included the Kahr PM9, Glock 26 and S&W Shield.

Firstly I haven't shot the P365 yet, haven't had a chance to make it to the range yet. Hopefully sometime this week I'll get a few hundred rounds through it. Hoping if all things go well and I like the way it shoots, it will be my new carry piece. I stripped it, lubed it and it feels good in my hand. What stands out for me so far, is how good the trigger is. Beats these hands down in the trigger department.

As you can see from the selection, I'm not a "fan boy" for any brand. If I like the gun and it's reliable, I don't care who's names on it. I honestly wouldn't have bought the Sig if it hadn't been for the capacity. Being able to carry 10+1 or 12+1 is a HUGE advantage over smaller single stack guns. It's not the smallest, the PM9 is still a hair smaller and lighter, but your talking the tiniest of tiny margins.

Default IT STIRS MY INTEREST FOR SURE.

Doubt I'll be running out to sell/trade my Sig stainless P239 40 over it, but that's an apple to oranges comparison. IF TAKING REQUESTS, IF ABLE, how about a pic next to a 239 & J frame? Wt's fully loaded would be more useful/realistic, IMO. I don't carry them with no/empty mags. Nice helpful thread though.

The new American Rifleman has a good article on the Sig P365 and some good comparisons with others in its class. One thing I’m liking is that a 12 round mag is available and still keeps it in a compact package.

I have not even had a chance to hold a P365 yet, but I am very intrigued. Thanks for the report, Irn.
Would be interested to hear more after you get out to the range and compare it further.

I'll update this thread later with the weight fully loaded and some pics next to a J Frame. Also when I get to the range I'll take some pictures and try a few different kinds of ammo. I usually carry HST's so will definitely be running the 124 gr and 147 gr.

Here are a few pics with a Bodyguard 380 and a 649 .38. I have over 450 rounds through this little Sig with no problems at all. Amazingly size efficient little gun. The 12 rounders really do not add much appreciable length at all. Easy to carry and fun to shoot.

You can see the added length with the 12 round vs. the 10 round is no big deal at all in the pictures with the 649.

If reliable, this will be hard to resist. I carry a Model 60 no dash right now, but ten or twelve rounds vs 5 is remarkable in the same relative size.

Other than the inherent ease of carry of a J frame due to its shape, the P365 is really as easy to toss in a pocket. I carried mine on Saturday in an Uncle Mike pocket holster. No issues at all.

The 649 in my pictures above is a favorite of mine and I do still carry it regularly and shoot it often. It usually lives in an Ankle holster when I am in business attire and I pocket carry the little Bodyguard 380. If I am in jeans and a vest or untucked shirt, the P365 is my go to gun as it has proven itself reliable and accurate.

Makes me question why I still own a Glock 26, a Glock 43 or even a Glock 19 to tell you the truth. I find the little Sig to be quite good at the range. Something about the undercut of the trigger guard let's me get a really good grip on the gun. It just feels right and points well.

Mine is the updated version with the Xray sights by the way. I took it straight from the shop when I bought it to the range. No cleaning, no extra lube. I just checked it to see if the barrel was free of obstruction and let 'er rip for several hundred rounds of mixed ammo. I have an ammo can full of all types of ammo from 115 grain aluminum cases to +p+ hollowpoints. I loaded the mags with mixed ammo and it never had a problem.

It has eaten 100 rounds of Federal 124 gr HST as well and it is still flawless.

I hope it stays that way!

I can offer some help as I got mine a few days ago. As the past owner of a Shield which I spent a good deal of $$ (sights, trigger, grip tape, etc.) trying to make it the perfect small carry gun, I gave up, sold it, and kept the PM9 as it was much smaller and I actually shot it better.

On the initial run Sig found some minor bugs and they were simple fixes and are in the marketplace right now.
The only small current 9mm semi that comes close in size is the Kahr PM9. Yes, there are others but I want current production from a recognized manufacturer. I threw in a pic next to my little LCP but that is a .380 BUG.

The Sig P365 fits perfectly in every one of my PM9 holsters, even the moulded kydex versions as long as it has an open bottom as the P365 is just a bit longer than the PM9.

The Sig has a more rounded grip with nicer stippling than either the Shield or PM9. I experienced no "Glock knuckle" shooting it two hand or offhand, in fact I enjoyed shooting this gun strong and weak hand only. Using a two hand hold, I put the first mag out of the P365 in the black of a standard bullseye target at 30'.
I now have about 100 handloads through the Sig with no problems. Warning, the SIG mags are just under $50/ea. and I probably will not buy the 12 rounder because it's just longer and then we get into other guns that will fill the bill.

In quest for a small semi in a solid caliber that would hold enough rounds to make me comfortable when I was with my family, after further testing, this may be exactly what I was searching for.
Sorry for the long post.

I see the 10 round mag is about the same size as the Shield 7 round mag. I'm guessing the 12 round mag will be the size as the Shield 8 round mag?

I really don't care for the shorter mags for carry. They're ok for the range but in a SHTF situation, I want a full grip on the pistol.

Very nice looking holster. I have to admit I was intrigued by the 365 when I read the article in AR. Not a big fan of polymer SF pistols, but 10 rounds of parabellum with the shorter mag ain’t nothing to shake a stick at. I might have to “get one for the wife”

What's so great about this gun, is what it will do going forward. You know Glock, HK, S&W and the rest will be trying to figure out how to do the same thing. The size and capacity is just amazing for something this small.

Could you explain the brown piece of leather stitched to the outside of your holster. Or is it the inside.

Default MORE PIC REQUESTS

Been watching several U-tube vids on this gun. It kinda seems like 2 opposing sides with the truth somewhere in the middle. An area I haven't seen/heard much on, is the slide & frame rails: metal to metal, metal to plastic, full length or partial? When new I thought the PM9 was a game changer, & sold it off cuz I felt the rails were a weak spot & it wouldn't hold up to a high round count. Want it small & light, expect trade offs. "small/light" S/D gun that jams after 1,000+ rounds WITHOUT as much as a brush out, Gimme a break.

I've been very happy with my Kahr CM9 with Crimson Trace laser. If the Sig P365 trigger is better and they come out with a good CT laser, the extra capacity might tip the scale for a EDC gun for me. It took a while for me to go from a S&W 642 to the Kahr, so the process will be slow. I'm way past the point of being prejudice against the top brand plastic pistols. They are ugly, but seem to hold up as well as any metal pistols.

What’s the street price on the P365 right now? The MSRP in American Rifleman is $600, but a quick check of GB shows some price gouging going on. I know the price should drop once they start getting into circulation.

Piecing the introduction of the P365 together and listening to people that actually were in on very early production, I know the gun was extensively tested by Sig with positive results. The first production models hit the streets and there were some issues on some guns with night sights, the gun going into full battery every time, and slight peening on the back of the barrel hood. Two of these issues seem to be inter-related.

SIG immediately halted production and I suspect they changed the wt. of the recoil spring assembly which resolved the slide damage, plus they cut a couple of tiny notches in the barrel hood which eliminates the possibility of peening. The sight problem turned out to be a great one for many of us as they switched over to their their X-ray sights which puts a big green ball in the front sight. Perfect for SD use.
Did Sig hurry out with this gun? Not my call but those who were in on the design from the start will tell you the exact opposite.
When you look at YouTube video reviews for this gun I would disregard everything that is over one month old. Your information will be a far more accurate description of the performance of this little powerhouse.

To answer the above posters street question, I ordered mine about 6 weeks ago from my LGS at $515. Brownells had a list going at about $500. Just my opinion, but if this gun continues to get positive raves, the price could actually rise slightly more toward the $600 list price and it may take a while for it to recede back to the $475-$500 level.

I just got home from my LGS. Both my wife and I ordered a P-365...got put on their waiting list. They had one on display for $550 that we both got to handle. We are going to trade our 12 year old M&P 9 Compacts on this new Sig. They offered us $250 each on trade-in for the M&P's. I might also trade my Ruger LC9s because I probably won't carry it much after seeing this new gun. The trigger on the 365 is so smooth with a great reset, and the included night sights are a nice extra touch. With the 12 round magazine it has the same capacity as the M&P compact in a much smaller package.

NachoGrande,

I do not have the gun here in hand to snap a pic right now, but they are steel rails and are as full length as you are going to get on a small gun. No little Glock tabs on this little pistol.

FWIW, I have a Kahr PM40 and it has never had an issue with rail wear after a LOT of rounds through it. Some designs seem like they might have issues based on common sense, BUT many times good engineering can prove common sense wrong.

Default THANKS NQ

The reason I asked is cuz the PM9 I owned developed a burr on the frame 1/2 of the slide around 500 rounds. MAYBE it was smoothing itself out & MAY have been an improvement, after a time??? It didn't instill much faith & after getting the 239 I sold the PM9. Steel on steel full length rails would be a first choice, BUT it may be 1 of the compromises that comes with the 365.

NachoGrande,

I have also gotten rid of more than few firearms that I lost confidence in or grew concerned about for one reason or another!

First range trip with the gun and very impressed. Ran all 200 rounds flawlessly and was a very soft shooting gun. Ran 124 grain Blazer, Winchester NATO 124 grains and HST 124 grain. Still want to run another 300-400 rounds through it before carrying it.

You could check the Greensboro Gander Outdoors. They should have recently received a shipment of P365s. I picked one up in MN last week on the day they were received. Retail was $499.

Thanks for that. I was close to there a couple hours ago but didn't go in. I'm reluctant to do business with that gentleman, given his views. I did get to handle a pre-production sample today at a LGS and I'm more sold than before.

I'm really curious about whether Brownells has shipped any to anyone. I've had one on order from them for more than two months.

The first shipment of 365s were distributed between all of the stores with none being allocated to the DC for web sales.

Your not kidding. Nobody has been charged a red cent that preordered, and they think Brownells is trying to scam them. They simply haven't had any shipped and the delay with the original release has set them back.

I agree. I've got no complaint with how I've been treated by Brownells. I've bought plenty from them and never had a problem. I also understand that, if they had 'em, they'd ship 'em. That's how they make money.

I just wanna gun.

I'm so glad they kept the slide narrow and put a bevel on it. Ever since Glock became the standard, it seems like blocky and clunky went from weird to accepted to fashionable, and very few guns were made to be slick and easy to carry. Look at a 1903 Browning: Length, height and weight for it's power suffer in comparison to something like a Glock 26, but it's much easier to carry concealed.

I'm with them that said this may be a game changer for my CCW piece. I've avoided the switch to 9 from .45, but yeah 10+1 in that package is hard to resist.

I have had my 365 for a couple weeks now and have about 250rds through it. Nice pistol. It is the revised version with improved spring, barrel relief cuts and Xray3 night sights. None of the ammo I shot was a problem. It shoots pretty soft for its size. I think the concept is great. What's not to like about a quality pistol this size with 11-13rds on board. Here are a few pics next to Wife's G42. Many comparing it to the 43, but as you can see, it's a tiny sucker. I also like the full, metal slide rails.

I think the people that ordered from Brownell's have a legitimate gripe. I suspect they ordered from them for a couple of reasons.
1. Their price $499
2. Their reputation
So far I have heard nobody say they have received one from Brownells. Other dealers have been getting them in bunches of 12-18. Mine has a factory sticker date of March 13 and I was shooting it on March 16 along with the 17 other people that had a small deposit to get on a list at my LGS.

Brownells has caught a lot of flack for not being able to fill orders while so many others have and I would be reasonably sure they wish they would have never taken any pre-orders for this gun.

I also like the fact the front tab, or slide extension, or whatever it's called, below the main body of the slide that retains the recoil spring and takes a beating during recoil, is much beefier. Not that it would be a problem for 99% of users, but I've seen pics of high round count rental Glocks that have developed cracks there.

I guess I don't get the validity of the "gripe". I'm sure that Brownells would like to sell every product they have listed, including the Sig P365. If someone who put one on backorder wants to buy one locally, they can and cancel with Brownells. I'm sure the low price is what attracted the potential customers. I'm also pretty sure that the folks who ordered the P365 aren't desperate for a weapon for personal protection, so what's the rush? It just reflects the immature "instant gratification" attitudes of our current society.

I paid a total of $460 at Brownells and I a number 397 they told me. I think it's ridiculous they are taking so long to get an order in but my experience working in a large volume gun store tells me why.

They are waiting on an order of 3,000 according to reports from their employees. This makes sense to me because when you're a gun store and you order in bulk you get free guns included in your bulk order. This helps the overall profitability of the SKU and market penetration rather than peppering large volume stores with 3 at a time.

All reports suggest they are getting their order of 3000 by mid April. I will start to really complain if we get to May and I still dont have my Gun.

Default SIG HAS TO MAKE THEM FIRST.

Probly gonna be a while before supply ='s demand. Stores can't give what they don't have. Great pics of the slide, thanks. That was an area of concern. How is the field stripping?

You got a lot more information than I. All they told me in response to my email inquiry was that they have no idea at all.

On what date did you order to get to 397 on their list?

If Brownells had them, they'd be shipping them already. If they ordered 3000, they probably got a discount buying in bulk. Sig gave them an estimated ship date, and Brownells used this timeframe and started preorders. Bottom line is they haven't received any of the guns from Sig, hence zero have been shipped. Don't like it? Cancel your order, your not out of pocket.

Easy. Drop the mag, clear weapon, pull slide back, rotate lever clock-wise and down 90 degrees and pull slide off. No pulling the trigger.
