I think my new Ruger Match Champion has a problem
I know, I know, I should have bought a 686 first, and saved myself the trouble, even with the posts about MIM parts, the lock, and QC! I am not an "expert" on revolvers of any flavor, but I had a new GP 100 Wiley Clapp edition that I had to return to Ruger, and the tech told them "Replace the gun!"
My new Match Champion has developed what I think may be a real problem. I have fired maybe 150 reloads through it, and dry fired it maybe half as many times. I just discovered 4 of the cylinder notches show definite deformation, with a little displaced metal that I can catch my fingernail on. the inner shoulder of the notches look like it has been struck a small hammer! Is this a normal situation with any revolver, or do I have a problem? If I do have to send it back, I hope they will just repair it!
I hate the thought of sending yet another gun back to Ruger. I have put a set of springs in it recently, and Mother Ruger won't return them. Frankly, it is a bit of a PITA to disassemble.
Not real happy! Thanks for any advice you can give!

Ruger customer service is generally pretty good so if you send them a nice letter explaining the problem I'm sure they'll make good on a repair or replacement of the cylinder and retiming of the gun. Send them a good description, good pics and give them the chance to reply. They'll probably send you a shipping label to cover getting it to them for a look-see and fix.

What you describe is not normal. They will almost certainly want the whole gun back for a repair, so if you want to keep the aftermarket spring set you know what you need to do.

I don't have a custom GP-100, but my old stainless GP-100 has nearly 2400 rounds through it. A fair amount of that shooting was with 38 Special level reloads fired in USPSA matches, so very rapid double action shooting. 561 were Magnum loads, some factory, some my reloads, some of my reloads were were of the "holy cow, what are you shooting, you're going to set the range on fire with that thing" loads. The only discernible wear I find is a turn line on the cylinder.

I love this post. "He's shooting magnums, Mildred!" Seriously, that is what a GP-100 is supposed to do. I was so displeased with my MC that I sold it a week later. Nowhere near the quality of my Wiley Clapp model, while it thought it would be a step up with all the upgrades. Follow the above advice and send it back. I wish you well.

It had a problem even before that: it’s a GP100!
Couldn’t resist
