Ruger Mini 14 with Factory Folding Stock
I recently came into possession of a Ruger Mini 14 with the scarce factory folding stock. I have been told that these were only offered for a short time before being discontinued after an example was used in a shooting.
Mine is complete and in good operating condition except for the following:
The rear sling swivel is missing and a call to Ruger resulted in they're response that they have no remaining parts for this stock option. A check with Jack First and Gunparts yielded the same results.
I am hoping someone on here may know a source for this part!

Maybe I am wrong, but isn't that just a standard QD swivel that is used on the folding stock, near the grip?

Larry:
I've looked at pictures and it appears the the swivel attaches thru the screw upon which the folding part of the stock rotates. I am hoping that a member here has a factory folder and I can use theirs as an example. I've also seen an aftermarket Choate example where the swivel is mounted to the stock but I want to do this as originally as possible.

At one time the CA Dept. of Corrections used the 3-shot burst version of this weapon with the folding stock on their transport busses. They typically returned them to Ruger for service but it is BARELY POSSIBLE that they might have a few odd parts laying around the armory at the training academy in Galt, CA. Whether they would be willing to part with them is another matter. There is also a small gun parts supplier in Susanville, CA that supplied parts to the gunsmithing program at Lassen College in Susanville. They taught specialized classes for CDC armorers. They MIGHT have them also, Doesn't hurt to ask I guess. Good hunting.

My stock has a quick detach swivel on the left rear of the stock (specifically the metal fitting). If you look you should see a small hole where it fits.
I have no idea how to take a picture from my phone-switch it to my computer and then post so don't ask.

This should be it. I do believe a QD swivel will work in that fitting.

Keep in mind, QD swivels are available in silverish finish also, to match aesthetically stainless long arms. Just saying...

Thanks guys: I believe you are both correct regarding the mounting location. I'll rummage around and see if I can find something that will work.
Update:
Murphy's law: "If you need a part even if it's generally generic it will be non- specific to the firearm you need the part for!" I have checked and this sling swivel is not the standard size you generally find. The loop and attachment are bigger and I confirmed this. I will try to contact Ruger tomorrow and see if they have any available.

It’s against forum rules to link a live action, but go to gun broker & search for “mini 14 gbf” and you will find what your looking for.

That's it!!!!! I LOVE my factory folder! Problem that I saw-and maybe I didn't examine it close enough-is how to get it off as that little lip on the bottom seems to prevent that. I really wonder why Ruger doesn't make them any more instead choosing to use those chunky UGLY collapsable stocks they use now

My understanding is that Ruger dropped this stock after a Mini 14 was involved in a shooting and was equipped with one. Perhaps some one else on here can verify this.

Maybe the FBI shootout in Miami, circa 1986. One of the bad guys, Michael Platt, used a factory folding Mini 14.
The FBI made some much needed changes after that.

Beautiful piece! I've been wanting one exactly like that for some time, but can't justify the ridiculous prices many are asking. Yet.
