They're reasonably priced, reliable pistols.

I have 4 of the first generation XD's, the 9mm gets used as a loaner gun when I am doing classes, the .40 Tactical is used in Limited 10 USPSA matches and has over 35,000 trouble free rounds down range.

So, yes, they are a very fine, quite durable and very accurate handgun.
Shoot the heck out of yours...you will enjoy it greatly!

The quality and durability of the XD line is first rate. I’ve owned one but couldn’t get use to the trigger. It is what I call a striker fired single action. Unlike Glock, M&P, Ruger and others. The XD is preloaded and the trigger only releases the striker, hence the grip safety. But that’s just my take. If you like 1911s you’ll love the XD.

Default The XD.....

....has great sights, great ergnomics, great reliability, great quality, great trigger and great looks. I just have to say that for some reason I can't shoot it. I'll get a couple of bullseyes and the rest of the shots in the magazine misses the target. I KNOW that it is a VERY capable gun, but there is something about it I can't figure out.

I must be losing concentration because my first shots are best and after three of four, I'm gone. I don't seem to do that with other semi guns, though. 3rd gen, Shield, Taurus and Kel tec and others.

I bought a used XDm .40 from a dealer who thought he was selling me a defective gun. Actually it did have a problem from the factory but the poor dumb slob at the LGS didn't realize SA would fix it for free even if sent in by someone other than the original owner. I got about a $250 discount on the going rate. I didn't even have to pay to ship it to SA. They paid. They had it back to me in about 2 weeks working perfectly. It's my EDC pistol. I keep it in the truck mostly. If I want to carry concealed I'll carry it some but I have smaller guns I carry more often because of the size and weight. They work great as CCW guns in the winter but not so much in the summer.

At any rate it's reliable and accurate and it holds 16+1 rounds and it doesn't have the bite a Glock .40 does. In fact it's soft as a kitten on recoil. I love it. I trust my life to it all the time.
