Default Swiss

I have to say for the real reasonable price of Swiss Army knifes they in my view are a great value. I was given one at work before I retired it's now 12 years or so old. It has held up very well blade wise. Its the blue color officers model.Don't get me wrong I love my Cases, Bucks, Sogs , and a few others but Swiss holds its own too.

You will not find much argument among knife enthusiasts. Their consistency and quality control is the best, to a level that is truly amazing. I have always had several, to carry on my bikes in supplementation of their tool kits. I put them aside for a few years in favor of the basic Leatherman, until the blade proved unequal to its task.

In recent years, I developed a preference for the Alox models, since I now have a copious supply of toothpicks and have a tweezer on my Micra. I usually carry the two-row Electrician, which sacrifices the can opener for a sheepsfoot blade.

Carried this blue one so long I wore the logo off. Replaced it when I lost the toothpick, but it still lives in my drawer of precious stuff.

I keep the little one in my watch pocket. It is amazing how handy those scizzors are. Tooth pick tweezers and nail file all come in handy too. Even that little blade is sometimes just right. At $20 they are a bargain, sometimes they can be found for as little as $11.

It compliments my Buck 110 well.

You do have to look out for and beware of knock-offs.

“Swiss” is not a brand name and may not even be protected by any copyright. The two reputable manufacturers in Switzerland are Victorinox and Wenger, which actually merged a few years ago and are now all-Victorinox.

I carried a Swiss Army knife for about a decade but many of the things I do with my knives at work I need a lock blade to keep them from closing on me and cutting my fore finger. That happened a couple times and I switched to Gerber Magnum LST Jr's. It is a shame because I absolutely love the steel they use in Swiss Army knives. Easy to sharpen and they keep an edge very well.

I think he meant he has lots of regular toothpicks. He carries the alox(metal) handle SAK, which doesn't have a toothpick.

Replacement toothpicks are available. Amazon has them 5 for $5 with free shipping. Be aware there are two sizes.

I get the plastic French tickler style from Walgreens or Wally World. You can sometimes find bulk packaging that gives you a couple hundred at one time. I keep them in my truck, in my bus bag, on my desk at home and in my medicine cabinet. So I don’t need a toothpick on my knife, which leaves me free to carry Alox SAKs.

Just to be obvious...Swiss Army Brands sells replacement toothpicks and tweezers on their site and at many of their retail dealers.

I need to order a few for a couple of used knives that I bought at gun shows. I don't think I've ever lost one from a knife that had it when I acquired it. About half of my Swiss knives were new when bought.

BTW, I don't put any Victorinox knives on a key chain or carry knives in the same pocket with change, nail clipper, etc. The handles scratch badly. So, only knife and handkerchief go in a pants pocket.

If you like swiss armies you gotta watch McGuyver on Friday nights. He uses his for everything. It made my 13 yr old grandson want one. He'll get the one I gave his dad when he was that age when his dad thinks he's ready for it.

At the beginning of our first extended stay in Switzerland, our Swiss friend asked my husband if he had a knife on him. When he said no, she replied that "A real man always carries a knife".

On our next visit to her home, she presented him a Swiss Army knife in a belt scabbard. That was 1983. Its gotten plenty of use since then, and is holding up well.

She'll really be in conflict with the mayor of London, who says no one needs to carry a knife. He's probably confused about his sexuality.

My first Gerber Magnum LST Jr lasted 15 years before I finally could not sharpen it any more. I had taken off a 1/8inch from both the length and width of the blade. I had a second one as a backup in the drawer and just started using it last year. So I should be good to go for the next 14 years.

The only SAK is Victorinox IMHO, although I have several Wenger.
Here's a sample of some SAKs
