Default Auction Buy this Weekend - Remington 572 (1977)

Some purchases are for sentimental reasons. It is even better when your search ends with what I consider a fair price. Dad taught my brother and me to shoot back in the early 1960's with a Remington 572. Don't know what happened to that rifle over the years. I looked for a used one in excellent condition at a reasonable price for several years. Purchased one at a local auction this weekend. Not a BDL deluxe model but a nice piece. Barrel code dates it to 1977. Had a couple of small surface rust spots on muzzle end of barrel that cleaned up. Got it for a bid of $160 + 15% buyers premium and taxes ($193 out the door).
Did a thorough cleaning and look forward to getting to the range this week.

Some folks have complained about Remington quality of late but this is one of the good ones.

Sure looks to be in great shape. Think you did well on the price. Recall firing my friend's 552 way back when. Decent quality guns. Auctions often the only place to find these guns. Never see these at my LGS. Many holding onto these more vintage models.

Nice rifle at a nice price, 50% of what table prices are at shows.
The classic 22 rifles are in high demand. A lot of guys not to
happy with what's available new on today's market.

I'd planned to bid on that one but got distracted. Good catch!

I had planned on bidding on one of he two Colt Troopers but they went above my limit. The Remington 121 pump .22 (1951) went for bid of $225 which was $272 out the door. The deal of the day at that auction was an Aimpoint red dot sight that went for $80. It was a military grade model that retails for $800.

I wasn't there in person to look it over and was afraid the Aimpoint was a knockoff or not working correctly.

I've been shooting a Remington 572 for many years. It has no serial number so it was made prior to 1968. All the grandkids have put time in with it and they all love this rifle. It has never had any kind of problem and I have no idea of how much use it received before I got it.
One important point: These sell for much less than comparable Winchester 22s and as far as I'm concerned are equal in performance.

One of my favorites is a WWI-era Remington Model 12 pump .22 I have used it a lot, and would say it is at least the equal of any of the Winchester pump .22s

I think now is the time to buy up good older Remington guns if you are so inclined. No one seems to know what might happen with Remington's bankruptcy. Just yesterday, I bought an excellent condition Remington 550-1 .22 at what I thought was a fair price. And to me at least, that is the ultimate top-of-the-line .22 semiautomatic rifle. It makes the Ruger look like a toy.

I have my 552 I purchased in 1968. Very accurate for a semi auto, standard grade gun. It has killed a lot of game and has saw many, many bricks of ammo of the years. These older 552-572's are great guns, make with steel and black walnut and just keep on functioning after thousands and thousands of rounds.

It was the real deal, latest model (no box or paperwork) and was working. I took a battery and checked it. I bid up to $70. Afterwards the guy who bought it said if I had bid one more time he would have dropped out. Already have a Vortex Red Dot so didn't need one. Looking back - I should have kept going on it.
