Default Picked Up my First Colt . Officers Model 22LR .. Need some help

Hey Fella's, I picked up this Colt Officer Model in 22LR, S/N 2519X dates it to 1942 im pretty sure. Over all the gun been shot, a nick and a mark here and there. Overall I'm happy with the condition. Anything I should know about this set up ? Any help with what I have here would be great. The front and rear sites, from what I have researched, they don't look factory ? And last the grips, not sure about these grips. Is there someone I could contact about the grips ?

Thanks, Brian

Nice old Colt, Mine is a 1941, 236XX. Yes the sights are not factory. The front site looks to be a replacement blade with a different style of adjustment. The rear is completely different. It looks like a bullseye setup from yesteryear. The grips are not stock either, might be Roper's, or Herrett's. Again what would have been used in the Colt's timeframe. Here a couple of photos of mine, one with stock grips the other with Jay Scott Target grips.

I believe the sights are Roper sights and the stocks were made to look like Ropers as well. Someone really liked that gun.

I have followed Roper a little, but I am by no means an expert. The sights look genuine, the grips look like an imitation of the style, and the trigger shoe is period correct. I believe that younggun22 nailed it.

Great catch!

I have one from 1930, the first year produced in .22 rf. The sights are not original but I don't know what they are.

They are very accurate, at least mine is. Shoot it and enjoy.

You need to go to the Colt Forum all your questions will be answered there. the grips alone are worth a couple of hundred bucks.

Go over introduce yourself and show them what you have shown us and you will get an avalanche of expert knowledge.

Younggun

You nailed it, the boys over on the Colt site said the front and rear are are indeed Roper sights. I like the grips, they are not Roper but a try at making them look like Roper's. Gonna hit the range soon, looking forward to shooting it.

Those Officers Model Targets are great shooters. It depends on the day which is more accurate, my OM or my K22.

The stocks are Siles and the holster is my grandfathers that he kept his Police Positive in.

I believe my OM is from the early 20s.

Very cool gun Brian.
They certainly aren't Ropers by Mathais but could they possibly be by Walter ?

Very nice; I want it. First one I have seen in .22. Here are my (top to bottom) .38 Shooting Master w/ Roper sights, .32 Officers Model w/ King sights and Sanderson (?) grips, .38 Officers Model w/ Roper sights. I have never seen a Smith with Roper sights; I guess Walter Roper felt he could not improve on them.
