Current EDCs: full power pocket carry
For years my EDC was usually a full sized pistol either open carried or concealed.
These days I’ve had to carry small and light (multiple reasons). My two EDC choices are subcompact yet do not give anything up in terms of cartridge power. Here are my S&W 649 (.357 magnum) and Beretta PX4 subcompact (.40 S&W).
Both are pocket carried in my front pants pocket, and are coupled with my Benchmade Stryker and Presidio II.
Pocket guns don’t have to be mouse guns

I am with you, too. Sacrificing power to allow pocket carry is not an option. When I shop for new pants, jeans, or shorts I take one of my "pocket guns" with me. If it doesn't fit, the new clothes don't come home with me.
About 60% of the time I pocket carry a 340 M&P with Speer .357s in it. About 30% of the time it is a Glock 30 (45 ACP), and the other 10% of the time it is something a little more oddball like a 325 PD in my cargo shorts with a few extra full moon clips on the other side.

I'm not as recoil tolerant as you guys.
24 ounces of 640-1 is almost enough to make full house 125s bearable.

Might make me a wimp but I carry the Buffalo Bore version of the old FBI load in my 340PD. Magnum loads are just too much for accurate follow up shots, at least for me.

Kimber K6S in right front pocket loaded with very hot Barnes 125gr. Yes it's heavy. But no problem.
Benchmade Bugout in the other pocket.

I don't think that makes you a wimp at all. I have been thinking about getting some of the Buffalo Bore (standard pressure, non+P) 38 Special loads for my Baby Chief that's in the picture with my 340.

Same feelings here..340PD or 340MP with titanium cylinder in a pocket holster, all day comfortable cannon carry.

I, too buy pants with large pockets, and pocket carry every day.
I don't see how anyone can carry a Glock anything in .45 in a pocket without it printing ( holdter or no holster ) and beating your leg with every step.

Not to be unkind, but there are some big mounties on this board who can easily hide a gun that size. I cannot as I'm at the alarmingly svelte/wimpy end of the scale.

Nasty arthritis makes .357 Magnum too much to handle, makes +P .38 Special in an Airweight painful, and makes racking a slide a problem with small autoloaders. I stick with an all-steel .38 Special J-frame and Buffalo Bore's standard pressure version of the original FBI load.

Yes, I also look for full power in a small platform when selecting my carry pistol for the day. Underwood .40 S&W yields the same muzzle energy as .45 acp +P, so my 40 Shield makes for a smaller platform than a .45 acp +P platform. Occasionally, when I feel like selecting more oomph, my G29 Underwood 10mm rides with me iwb. Yes, I know that shot placement is more important than one or two hundred more ft-lbs of m.e., but I want the enhanced psychological effect that non-ho-hum calibers can provide if the shot is not placed in a critical spot in the target.

I have owned and carried a scandium 357 since S&W introduced them. Pictured is my 340sc which gets a lot of pocket time. Admittedly, it IS a handful with real magnum loads.
Now if you really want to push the 'full-power' envelope in a front pocket....I give you a heavily modified model 58 with a model 29 barrel and cylinder. It does indeed fit into my Levi's 501 front pockets with the Eagle Secret Service stocks. It is decidedly NO FUN to shoot it with 44 magnum loads.

I bought a 442 with the intention to pocket carry it mostly in the yard and at times that I don't want to strap on a serious rig. I have some CCI shot loads that I want to experiment with for when I'm concerned with snakes and other small critters outside.
I know this will be controversial but I just received a Sig P365 that I reserved when they were first introduced. Side by side, the Sig is actually smaller than the 442. I may try that out in my pocket for trips out to the mailbox. Yes, it's a long walk.

I don’t often “pocket carry”, but when I do the only gun I consider is my 640-1 Pro.

For the 649 I use a Desantis superfly.
For the Beretta I use a pocket holster made by outbag.

My wife pockets a 49 in a Mika pocket holster, square or radius depending on the pocket. (Can't buy a better pocket holster IMHO.) I am a 640 in OWB guy. BB standard pressure 150 grain LFBWCs in both and 158 LSWCs in my watch pocket.

I recently went back to a 2004 Vintage Glock 27 in OD, carried in a Mika with a Flat Bottom Magazine in the R/F Pocket. A 10 Round Magazine rides in a Kydex Pouch on the left side of my waistband. Have also carried it in a Bellyband when in Sweats.

It all reminds me of the famous Mae West quote. "Is that a gun in your pocket or are you glad to see me?"
I think sturdy jeans will hold up to pocket carry, preferably with a holster of some sort. As I worked in a suit and tie, suit pockets were not strong enough to support a handgun for any length of time.
Pocket carry is not for me but its a matter of personal preference.I agree with the OP that you do need to use enough gun.
