Default Just got this Sig P224 in 40 S&W

I've been looking for a Sig P224 for a few months. It's a cut off "ultra compact" Sig P series pistol, that also takes P229 or P226 magazines. It was apparently a sales failure, that Sig only made for a few years and then they quit on it. Almost bought a new one last month but decided to wait and see if one came along a little cheaper. Well last week a local guy offered this up on one of the shooting forums, for what I thought was a good price. After some haggling it turned into a deal I couldn't pass up. It's in the underappreciated 40 S&W caliber, and is a DAK (kind of double action only) model. Two features that apparently normal gun buyers don't like, but I find merit in them. The night sights are dated 2015 and are plenty bright, and the front strap is nicely checkered. The trigger stroke is smooth, like a nice double action revolver.

Since Sig quit making this model the extra parts, like springs and magazines, have dried up. Numrich Gun Parts had some springs and stuff for this model, which are now on the way to me. So no worries now over spare parts. At the range it shot great with no failures and it's very accurate for such a small gun. It's easy to carry concealed and will make a good companion to my 40 caliber P229 and P226. My Signess continues...

Congratulations

I really like the P224. I had been discussing
a pistol of this size with SIG for many years and was thrilled when they released it in about 2012. It remained in the catalog until 2016. It may still be in production

I am not a fan of any of the Double Action Only designs including SIG's Double Action Kellermam

My P224 SAS is TDA and chambered for 357SIG

I even pocket carry it sometimes in my 5.11 Covert Khakis

I did get the chance to play with a supressed P224 Tactical in 40S&W that one of the factory engineers built as a tool room sample

X-Grip makes a sleeve if you want to make the P229 magazines look good in the P224. It adds a nice place to rest your pinky.

I put 150 rounds through it on the first range trip. No failures and it was very accurate. The small grip isn't nearly as bad as the internet commandos were complaining about, on some of the videos I watched. Just curled my pinky finger under the magazine and fired away. No different than any other small frame pistol. My Glock 33 recoils more sharply than this does. Really a good little pistol for discreet carry.

It seems a lot of people were asking Sig for a pistol like this, and I'm glad you had some input on it. But when Sig introduced the P224 I guess a lot of people were upset that the grip was short. Well yeah, it is short..... it's a sub compact. But they managed to make it very shootable and hold 10 rounds of 40 S&W ammunition in the magazine. And it's very accurate, able to hold it's own against bigger pistols. For me the pinky finger just curls up under the magazine naturally.

I appreciate Sig's DAK triggers, they feel like a nice double action revolver trigger to me. Being a revolver guy first, a smooth 9-10 Lb DA pull is sweet as can be. The P224 is no longer being made, and I think they used the last of the short slides on the P229 Carry, which is no longer in production either.

Thanks all for the responses everyone.

Glad you like it. My P224, also in .40 but DA/SA has been one of my carry guns for the last two years. I think the short fat grip turns a lot of people off. For me it would be great if it was a little thinner, but is still easy to shoot and conceal.

I just won a P224 auction on Gunbroker. Nothing fancy, Like yours but it just might replace my BG380.
