Default You guys may drum me out of the group

At the NRAAM I got a good look at the new Springfield XD-E. It has a nice feel to it, but it's hard to tell without having the weight of the rounds in the magazine.

I like the controls and could get used to the decock only function.

Which got me thinking about doing a conversion to decock only on the 3rd Gens. Probably not doable, at least not by me.

Anyway, the guy I talked to at the Springfield booth said that they are going to announce an "aggressive" discount program for NRA certified instructors.

Depending on how aggressive that is, might have to buy one for testing purposes.

I don't have any problems with your post but I am not sure this is the place for it.

I believe this is for S&W products.

Yes it does say that on top of the page. Most of us own one as we are very Intelligent people. I currently have 3 different S@W products in my collection plus other unnamed brands as well. The S&W products are by far my favorites of everything I own. They are also the best quality as well of all the brands I own also.

Actually, the sub-forum to discuss non-S&W products is here:

http://smith-wessonforum.com/firearm...-other-brands/

But, nobody is going to drum you out for praising/owning other makes/models of firearms, at least, not myself. I own many different types of guns but, S&W revolvers are my hands-down favorites to shoot, admire and discuss online.

Is there a new version that has deleted the safety and is now decocker only?

In regard to your (my! ) railed Model 3913TSW at least...

Quote:
The gun can be carried with the safety on (requiring the disengagement before firing the gun), or with the safety off (relying on the weight of the double-action trigger pull for safety). This is a matter of personal preference and training. If you don’t care for a safety, S&W can convert the gun to a “de-cock only” configuration with no safety. If you just don’t like levers at all, and don’t mind the double-action trigger pull, S&W can convert the gun to a true “double-action only” with no protruding levers at all.

Mentioning Springfield is a violation of the no politics rule.

No. I might not have been clear on that. It's still down for decock, up for safety. I like the concept.

LOL! I could bribe you with that pre rail 3953TSW, I suppose.

I thought the "Grip Zone" think was silly, but it's marketing. Interestingly, I didn't find the grip all that "grippy".

I didn't bring a 3rd Gen with me on my trip to Texas, because I wanted two easy to conceal guns that used the same round. I ended up with my 36-1 3" and 642. Still, when I got back, I got my no rail 3913TSW out of the safe and put it on my belt. It sits there now. I did put on one a "flat" slide stop that I purchased from Numrich. It's really not that much flatter, but I like it anyway.

Who know? By the time that Springfield actually has a discount program, another 3rd Gen will probably come up for sale!

No No No GaryS!!! Forget those old, heavy 3rd Gens! I hear there's no parts for them anymore anyway! Go for the modern plastic wonder gun... the one that reminds you where to grip it so you don't accidentally shoot yourself in the foot!

Much cheaper for you too... and many more local 3rd Gen opportunities for me!!!

The plastic frames are not noticeably lighter than the alloy framed 3rd Gen guns. The advantage of plastic is the cost of production. I'm thinking of buying it because I don't like it I should be able to sell it off.

You will take a beating trying to resell modern plastic.

Ask me about how I know that so well.

Yea, grip safety is for 1911's. I don't even like the new S&W with the grip safety.
Made in Croatia is another turn off, oh and the # of recalls.

Come to think of it, I just dislike XD's.

The XD-E did away with the grip safety because it is TDA, not striker fired. That's why it has a safety/decocker. Ambidextrous, but unlike the 3rd Gen guns, it's quite flat.

Lately it seems that everyone has had more recalls. Sig with the 320 and 365, S&W with the Bodyguard 380. No matter how much testing there is with pre production guns, once they hit the production line and are out in the real world, things start to show up.

My 4566 is decock only, my 6906 is decock and safety. I prefer the decock only and would prefer to convert the 6906 to it.

True be dat. Not that I am interested in buying a whole lot of modern plastic these days... but if I were, I think I'd want to wait until all the bugs are found and worked out. It's been epidemic lately.

Of course, by then, they'd be coming out with the next version or replacement... rinse and repeat.

I'm with you. In my quest to enter the current century- a failure to this point, I've been messing with a Glock 19 for a few weeks, and with 15 rds in it, I don't feel it's magically different than a 915. I'm sure a scale would say different, but in real-feel, it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Springfield recalled XD-S series. The XD-E is an entirely different weapon. As for being made in Croatia, I cannot get excited.

Well Gary don't feel too bad about the Springfield, I own two of them, the regular XD compact and the XD mod.2 tactical. Both have been very good shooters and reliable. Not crazy about the Croatia thing but they do what they are made to do. Enjoy your XD-E.

Have you looked at the list of recalls S&W has had over the last few years? Recalls | Smith & Wesson
So many manufacturers have had recalls recently.

I have a couple of XDs and have nothing but praise for them. They hit where I point, they feed and function just fine. And the Croatia part, who cares...I'd put one up against a S&W semi any day.

I did. I bought an XD day one from a LGS.
Too many issues right out of the box with FTF and FTE.
Sent back to Springfield and they changed recoil spring and polished feed ramp. No difference in feeding HP ammo. I gave up on Springfield the same way I gave up on Kel Tek. If it doesn't work right out of the box, it's a ****.
Makes you wonder why local LEO's don't carry them.
S&W any day over the Croatian ****.

Wow! You got mongo snake bit there. I'm one of the few in my group of shooters who doesn't own one, and none of the guys and gals have had any issues like that. I've shot theirs big and small and had no problems. Guess you got the unfixable lemon in the store. It happens.

The XDe is not de cocker only, it’s a de cocker safety that can act as a SA or DA. That gun has the bore axis of a Sig.
