Default White Folding Knife?

Can anyone share some info on this knife:

I bought it a some years ago at a gun show from a guy selling off his father's collection. It's really nicely made with stag grips and a high polish on the super hollow ground blade. 3.25" blade that is 3/16" thick. Rock solid action.

I found a couple of White knife makers on the internet, but not with a similar signature or knife pattern.

As you can see, the blade has an unusual contour. Any idea if it has a special purpose?

Any info on maker would be greatly appreciated. I know this is a knowledgeable bunch here, some I'm hoping someone can help me out.

Thanks

That's a beautiful knife. The blade pattern is a sheepsfoot style, designed for cutting/slicing and minimizing he chance of accidentally poking. The White name looks like it was put on with a hand etcher or Dremel style tool. I know nothing about the maker, but wanted to acknowledge your post and give it a bump. Somebody more knowledgeable than I will be along soon.

It is a fine looking knife, but I do not recognize the maker. I'd be surprised if someone here doesn't know something about it.

Nice knife!
Appears to be well made, fitted and finished.
Could we see the back with the blade open?

Also known as a “lamb’s toe” or a “ram’s finger”, the “sheep’s foot” is a nice blade style!!! That one probably ain’t too old on a count a tha hex or torx head screw, but it sure looks a dandy that one there it does!!!

The sheepsfoot blade is not unusual, but the curved edge on a sheepsfoot is not all that common, particularly on a slipjoint. The knives that first come to mind with that configuration are the Benchmade Griptilian in its sheepsfoot variant, and the Higonokami friction folders, although there are plenty of others.

My sister and brother-in-law gave me a beautiful White made sheath knife several years ago. The maker is:
White Handmade Knives
Gerald White
871 Sarijon Road
Hartwell, GA 30643

706/376-5944 or 436-0685
I tried to post a picture of the knife and maker's card but for some reason that is not functioning right now maybe later if so I'll post.

The blade is not a true sheepsfoot, like you find on most stockman's knives.

It's the shape that the late R.W. Loveless called a semi skinner.

The Gryphon boot knife designed by Robt. Terzuola also used that blade shape.

Thanks Steve,
It looks like White Handmade Knives may no longer be in business, their website is down. I was able to look at some cached portions of their website and Gerald and his 2 sons all produced custom knives for the company.

Their logo was quite distinct, so I am not 100% sure they are the same Whites that produced my knife. I have found a few other Whites on the internet that are custom knife makers.

I would love to see pics of your White knife

All the Gerald White Knives I can find for sale are fixed blade.
The folders are more difficult and time consuming to make.
The small handmade makers who start making fixed blades often have difficulties crossing over.
It just takes too long to make a folding knife with the equipment most of these guys have in their shops.
No way they can make any money.

Does your knife have the same marking on the blade as the OP's? If so, it would be the same maker. Otherwise doubtful. I too searched all of my information sources and came up empty.

The sold Gerald White Knives On the Arizona Custom Knives site are marked like this-
The scratched on ‘White’ appears to be the crudest and poorest done aspect of this otherwise skillfully made Knife.

Arizona Custom Knives is a great source for ID'ing knives and values. That was the first place I looked. And they are great people to deal with either buying or selling. I have them selling a number of my late hubby's high end knives. Some of which he had bought from them years back.

Well I did some more digging and think I have the maker identified. (Thanks for pointing out the Arizona Custom Knives site, it really helped).

It was Bob White from Gilson IL. He also made custom guns and his son Butch also made knives. Both are passed now but there is a thread I found on bladeforums about him. I would post a link but I think it might be against the rules.

Thanks for your help and for looking everyone.

Yes, I'd say you found the correct information.

Sorry for the wild goose chase, Post #9 wrong White knife maker.
I did search for Bob White and found this link to a Butch White (his son) Skinner with the matching signature to the OP's post knife.
