Bought it anyway. I always wanted a 1911 type pistol but never bought one until the other day. I didn't need a fancy one so I bought a RIA full size in a 9mm. My grandson took it and disassembled,cleaned, lubed and polished the feed ramp until it shines like the top of my head.
He brought it back and I have been messing with it and I think I will like it. At least I have no trouble racking the slide and I did with the Shield 9mm. He teaches and school will be out shortly and we will go to the range. Looking forward to trying it.

I'm betting you'll enjoy it. I have the same 1911 and it is fun to shoot, a bit heavy though, a lot of steel in it. Enjoy.

Everyone should have a good basic 1911, you will enjoy the experience.
My uncle had a S&W model 27 357 magnum, after shooting my old AMT Hardballer ( stainless 1911) he enjoyed it so much he bought a brand new Colt 1911. He was just smitten with the way it handled...he said it was just fun to shoot.
Take it to the range and have a "blast"!

Congrats! I have a RIA too, but in .45ACP. Mine has been surprisingly perfect through over 2K rounds. Because of the low price, I expected it to be marginal. Yet, it's been flawless.

Heed the advice of HOUSTON RICK. For many people, the 1911 gets in the blood and there is no cure; you just satisfy the itch with another, and another. I love the things.
Learn what the best way for you to hold it is, and I am confident you will be more than pleased with your range results.
Make sure to give us a range report.

I think it should be against the law to make a 1911 in 9 mm!

I love them too, but I did manage to satisfy the itch.

Twice in my life I've lost the itch to buy another of the same type of gun due to getting the perfect one. The first was a Beretta DT10 shotgun. What a fine machine. I did sell that one though to buy an Ed Brown 1911.

Once I got my hands on the Ed Brown Special Forces, I lost all interest in buying another 1911. It's just perfect for me and owning another will just take time away from shooting that gun. I didn't sell off my others, I just lost interest in buying more.

I've found 9 MM 1911s to be very competitive in local timed matches that limit the number of cartridges than can be in a gun. Their triggers can be lighter and crisper than many other 9MMs. Our steel targets are weighted so hits with 115 grain bullets on their upper 2/3s knock them right down and the 9 MM's low recoil helps reduce time. Their one draw back is that the original internal extractor is a poor choice for the steel cased cartridges that were dirt cheap during the early 2000s. Using normal brass cases they are hard to beat.

I figure as long as I own three times as many 1911s in .45 ACP I'm unlikely to be sent to Guantanamo for lack of patriotism.

Depending on who you talk to, a 1911 must not only be chambered in 45 ACP but must also be full size, manufactured by Colt and under the military contract.

Congratulations on your RIA 1911! Don't think you will regret it. I have a Tactical I in 9mm. Liked that and bought a Tactical II, in .40 S&W (it is a Commander) Both perform well. Have a 5" S&W, and Sig in 45ACP. Bob

I bought this gun online at G4G guns in the Dallas area. Their service was outstanding. I ordered around 3PM and a hour later got a copy of my order with the order number, The next morning I got my tracking number 2nd Day Air. The shipping charge was 15 bucks. The lady that I talked to was very nice and double-checked to insure it was actually available.
Bananaman, I ordered the TAC 1 also and it no longer has wood grips and the Rock Island Arsenal lettering is gone and the logo has been moved to the rear of the serrations. I put on Hogues with the finger grooves.

The first Colt Commanders were 9mms.
The U.S Army was looking for a new pistol in that caliber.
Colt made the Commander, S&W made the M39.

The Army decided to stick to the full size 1911
in .45 ACP a while longer, and both models went on
the commercial market.

I think you need another 1911 in 45acp too. To keep your 1911/9mm company. Congrats.

When it comes to guns, it ain't about need. If that were the case, we'd all have one rifle, one shotgun, and one handgun. Doubt there are many of us in that category.
