Default Early ring dated Oberndorf Mauser sporter

One of my other passions beside S&W revolvers are original Oberndorf Mauser sporters . I brought this ring dated Mauser to the Michigan Antique Arms Collector show to show a friend. While I had it out I decided to take a few pictures of it . This is an early Mauser sporter from 1908. Mauser signed it on the ring along with the date. It has the early features of the round knob pistol grip with the flat reinforcing panels on each side of the action. It also has the round knob on the bolt handle along with the military style floor plate release. It also has the early intertwined WM shield butt plate. It’s one of my favorites. The photos don’t quite capture the beautiful reddish black streaked walnut stock. It’s in unbelievable near mint condition for a 110 year old Mauser. Enjoy the pictures. Bill

Beautiful, classic sporting rifle.
Is that an A or a B Model ?
They offered so many options for each of these two Models, it's possible to have ordered one and have it look like the other.
Caliber?

I have a Type M Carbine on a Kurz action. 6.5Kcal. Early features.
I ran accross it at a show not really looking for anything in particular which is my general outlook.
Another 8x57 M98 commercial sporter built by JP Sauer. 1/2rd bbl, DST, lever release floor plate, slender side panel stock, ect.
A Hoffman Arms (Ardmore) built on a M98 in 30-06 rounds out the 98 sporter group.

The JPSauer & Hoffman I have shot quite a bit. The Type M carbine, not yet as I have yet to find time to cobble some of the special ammunition together.

Thank you posting the fine pics.

Nice. Awesome workmanship on the German Mauser. My German k98 has a really smooth operating bolt.

At onetime it was cheap to purchase a military surplus rifle and sporterize it into a hunting rifle. All my uncles who hunt in the family had them besides newer modern hunting rifles.
