I joined the dark side today - had a glock ages ago but decided to get one today - at least it is the one I like the most. now to figure out which optic to put on it

That’s a cool gun, and a great caliber. Just bought a gen 2 G20 in vg condition for $ 400.

Nice! My only Glock is an early 17L. I really like 6-inch barreled Glock longslides and while I have absolutely no need for one, those 10mm models are definitely something I'd love to play with!

10mm. 37,500 units of pressure. The largest size cartridge, that when loaded to optimum pressure levels, is still not too much for a routine size auto pistol.
10mm. Way above the 9-357sig-.40-45acp fray. Way way way above it all.
10mm. The Modernization Fairy did well when she inspired mankind to bring forth this vaunted cartridge.
10mm. When 40 S&W feels a tad light. When 460 Rowland feels a bit heavy. The Muses of Perfect Balance beam with pride.
Oodles of rounds. Ooodles of terminal effectiveness. Both in an auto pistol that is not too big.

I really like 10’s, you’re going to love that G40. For some reason Glock’s are vey easy to shoot in 10, even the G29. I case you didn’t already know they will shoot 40S&W without any mods. 40 is great for the range to practice on the cheap side. Just be sure to clean the chamber after you shoot 40 before you shoot 10’s again.

i have a M&P in .40 & reload that so ready to load for this - i did have a 1006 when they came out that I got rid of for some stupid reason - oh well. Think I will stick with 10mm in this one & use the M&P for .40

Actually, I did not know that. Never really thought about it. I occasionally shoot 40's in my 610 but never thought to try them in my 1006 or my G40. (I like the 10mm too.)
Concerning optics (mentioned in the OP), I like the Burris Fastfire-3 I have on my 627-5 But the Deltapoint Pro on my Q5 doesn't do to well in bright light. Can't find the 7.5 MOA triangle.

Glock make excellent pistols and I owned three at one point. I sold them all and replaced them with Sig's. I did this just because I like the Sig's better and one a P228 is my carry pistol.

I only have 1 Glock and that is enough. I just prefer revolvers. I have a 36 45acp. Got it when they first came out

I am a revolver guy but p/u a Gen 4 Glock 17 mostly for LEOSA certification next month. While I am permitted to qualify w/a revolver the reload times are too fast, even for speed loaders (I’ve tried).

SteveFi, good choice I think. Durable with any 10MM ammo you might choose to use, with Glock reliability. Once had a Glock 20 myself, but must have bought the only one on the planet that was not reliable. In any case, I've been a fan of the cartridge since my first, a Bren Ten. I've had a succession of 10MM pistols and revolvers since, but settled on the S&W 10MMs. Not necessarily better than some other choices, but just the one that's worked out best for me...

got to the range today - very nice - good accuracy & pleasant shooting - had 3 types of ammo, the sig 10mm ammo was the snappiest, but not bad. now time to reload

ah yes the dark side with Glock,
been there, done that.
17L and a 24 with a stainless frame hard to beat.
seeing how I had an extra frame went with a Mech Tech CCU, that was a fun gun to shoot.

Sounds like I'm in good company here....own 1 Glock, a gen3 17.
I'm a revolver guy and carry a j-frame daily....but.... the G17 is in the truck vault just in case. Hard to beat that "bucket o' bullets" stuffed in the grip.

Plenty of info out there for red dots for pistols. Plenty of companies mill slides for red dots to. Have heard that a 10mm pistol with a red dot is a great pig gun.
