Default Kimber 1911 9mm?

Anybody have info(good or bad) on a Kimber 5" two tone 1911 9mm #3200334? I think they came out in 2016. I've found a few places that had them at decent prices. I think its an entry level Kimber, but for 9mm plinking im intrigued. Its a one mag included gun, hence the lower prices. Don't read much about these models other than the love or hate of Kimber products in general. Real owners hold the true answers. Thanks

That Kimber is the Best Buy on the market right now.personally I have little interest in a 9mm 1911 over 45acp but that's just me. All Kimbers come with one magazine.

I don’t know about the two tone guns but I have a Kimber Stainless Target II 9mm. It is one of the more common makes on the competition line in this country (NZ).

It came with one 9 round mag.

The mainspring housing was plastic, luckily I had a spare stainless one on hand with a mag well already fitted.

It was set up for self defence/carry, not competition. Advertised at a crisp 4-5 Ib the trigger pull was good and crisp, but for range work (IPSC) which is what I use it for, it needed work. Saying that, the internal parts were good quality ones and it didn’t take much effort to improve the trigger greatly. The match trigger screw also needed to be adjusted for a match trigger reset (2-3mm) compared to a carry reset.

The forestrap really does need something to aid grip. I used a bit of skateboard tape.

The rear sight is a bit tricky. There is a grub screw on the right side that needs to be loosened for elevation. The sight is bottomed out with 124gn projectiles at POA/POI at 25 meters.

The slide and mainsprings are standard weight so if you like something lighter they need changing.

These are all minor points and other than these the gun came ready for shooting from the box. There are other makes out there that require a bit more work initially.

Would I buy another Kimber based on my experience with this one?

Yes I would

Thanks guys. Keep it coming. I can’t believe that S&W doesn’t offer a 9mm in the. “E” series. The pro series is very nice but kinda loosing out on a market share others are offering. IMO.

Thumbs up

Hello sshakrr, "Real owner" here. My Kimbers haven't been two tone, but I've owned three Target IIs over a period of several years, and currently have an Eclipse 38 Super to which I've fitted an extra 9MM barrel. Internally, the Target IIs would be same as the 32000334 model you mentioned. I can only say that the three Target IIs I owned were trouble free, reliable pistols. My 38 Super only required a 9MM barrel and magazine, and it too has been boringly reliable, in both calibers. I know internet lore is that 9MM in 1911 type pistols are problematic as to reliability, and of course Kimbers in general are trash Jammamatics, but the four Kimbers I mentioned did not require any adjusting, tuning, tweaking, polishing, etc. to be reliable with any factory or reloaded ammo I used. Were I in the market, I would have no hesitation in purchasing another full sized Kimber chambered in 9MM.

Attached a photo of one of the boringly reliable 9MM Target IIs, and the equally reliable Eclipse 38S/9MM.

I have a stainless target model...It has been with me for years. Have shot thousands of rounds through it with nary a problem. It is a perfect 9mm 1911. I would not hesitate to get another Kimber..

I wanted a 9mm 1911 to do the same, punch holes in targets and plink. After lots of research, talking to gun store owners and also Smiths, I ended up buying a Remington R1 enhanced. This pistol has been such a pleasure to shoot, so accurate and reliable, that I recently picked up a standard R1 stainless in 45. Only thing I had to do to these was to replace the loose (production) firing pin stops with oversized file fit EGW stops. For series 80 they both have remarkable triggers. The 9mm has a tiny bit of creep with a 3-3/4 pound pull and the 45 has virtually no creep and a 3-1/2 pound pull. Best of all they cost about $550.

Hey guys thanks for the replies. I’m trying to decide on the Kimber or the SA RO Elite Target 9mm. The SA costs a little more( found a very good price on one). The Kimbers are going $630 @ SMGA. The 45’s are a deal @ $600. I’m going to re-paw them both tomorrow and decide. Thanks

Default Kimber

I Have a Kimber Custom. Flawless function. I did have Ted Yost run through it when he was gunsmithing 1911 .45ACP, just because I guess. I am also looking at the Kimber Two Tone in 9mm.

I know cast frames are fine but I can't get my head around STI Trojan or Spartan from the Philipines or the Brazilian made Springfield Armory 1911 guns. They get lots of good press, probably fine guns, but I seem to go for Colt or Kimber, and maybe a plastic import here and there.

I own Kimber 45's no 9mm.. but if one came along at the right price.(LNIB 30-40% off retail) I'd be an owner..

Owned lot's of Kimbers in most 45 configurations. Still happy.
