Positively stellar little pick-up today
A friend of mine is moving out of town, and was looking to sell off a couple of black powder guns, a 45 TC Hawken and a Pietta 1860 Army, both with powder, round shot, and everything else. He only wanted $50 for both with accessories. When I arrived this afternoon to pick them up he said that he had a little Colt 32 revolver if I was interested. He pulled it out of the box and I was amazed. He only wanted $100 for it.
This is a 2nd issue Colt Pocket Positive in 32 Police CTG. I can’t find any flaws in the finish with the exception of a little turn line. It has the original Colt rubber grips. The action was a little tight at first, but has loosened up. It locks up tighter than a tick. The serial number dates to 1928.

I told him that I couldn't give him what it was worth. He told me, just give me $100 and it's yours. I keep a folded up Benjamin in my wallet for emergencies, I gave it up. I think we are both happy.

Nice one.. No issue with ammo, it's a 32 S&W Long, or short for that matter. Colt had a different bullet shape and renamed the S&W round. I bet you will be surprised at how accurate it might be.

Thanks! I've been doing a little research since bringing it home. You're right, it looks like Colt just renamed the 32 S&W Long to 32 Police CTG to keep from advertising S&W. I have also seen your comment on accuracy repeated many times. Got a couple of boxes of PRVI Partisan 98gr 32 S&W Long on order right now.

DANG p8riot, you have a heck of a friend there.
You owe him one for sure.
That little Colt is worth what, $700 or maybe more in that condition?
We all need a buddy like that...

Yep, you're right. I've probably paid it forward a couple of times already, but I wasn't expecting anything in return.

I'm quite fond of the little .32s. That's a very nice gun.
At the very least, you owe your friend a good steak dinner and a case of beer.

Attention OP: Are we sure the correct ammo is .32 S&W Long/Colt New Police and .32 S&W? There are also 2 older .32 rounds: .32 Colt Short and .32 Colt Long which are not interchangeable with the above rounds.

Thanks. I have mic'd out the cylinder and it matches the SAAMI specs for the 32S&W Long.

When reading Peter O'Donnell's Modesty Blaise books, I wondered if her Colt .32 might be one of these, as I picture the objects and action in my mind as I read.
I finally decided that a Cobra or Det. Spcl. was more likely, given that the books began about 1965. But they were based in the U K, where the older gun might have been more available. The Courier was possible, but less available,as fewer were made.2
Modesty's other guns were better defined: S&W .41 Magnum, Star PD .45, MAB .25 auto, Colt AR-15. One S&W model used by a villain was a Bodyguard .38. An S&W 9mm auto was also mentioned.
She held a Chief Spcl. .38 on some Pan (UK) paper covers, but the gun wasn't in the books. But Lugers were, and some covers depict them. This includes US covers.
I think Modesty was the only fictional hero/heroine who used a Colt .32 revolver.

Wow....just saw this thread, when looking for something else. I have one of these little guys, and they are remarkable. Here is mine, and when they are marked .32 Colt Police CTG., they do, in fact shoot the .32 S&W Long (or short, for that matter).
Best Regards, Les
