Help ID Grips
I need some help from the resident experts to positively ID a couple of sets of grips.
The first two photos are of a set of Rugers, and I'm pretty sure they are Blackhawk/Single Six. Some expert confirmation would be helpful.
The last two photos are of a set that I can't identify. I first thought they were Ruger too, but they seem too big for a Security Six and the bottom corners are too squared off. I thought maybe Bearcat, and the shape and pin locations look right, but the angle of the notches at the top (on both sides of the rounded top) doesn't look right.
So, any help with positively identifying both sets would be much appreciated.

Ruger grips are easy; all you need is a 3" square:

Thanks! According to this the Ruger grips are XR3-Red. I just looked it up and the XR3-Red grip frame was used from 1953-1963 for the Single-Six, Super Single-Six, Blackhawk, Hawkeye, and Old Army pistols.
Any idea what the others are?

Gunblast has a good chart listing all the Ruger single action frames. Search "RUGER SINGLE ACTION GRIP FRAMES"

LOL, that is exactly what I looked at to come up with that list of revolvers with the XR3-RED frame!
I've done some more searching and determined that the "mystery" grip is for an 1858 Remington percussion revolver (or clone).
Thanks for your help, man, I appreciate it.

I think the second pair of grips are for something like an 1858 Reminton (black powder cap and ball), most likely from a clone of the Remington. That's my best guess. Good luck! Ron

Yessir, you nailed it. I figured out the same thing and posted that info in #5 above earlier this evening.
Its good to have someone else confirm my identification of them. Thanks!

If not for a Remington .36 repro, those grips may be for a Ruger Bearcat. Ruger copied the Rem. pocket .36 grip. But Bearcats usually have Ruger medallions.

Yeah I mentioned the similarity to the Bearcat grips in my first post. But the angle of the flats on both sides of the rounded top aren't at the right angle.
I actually found a diagram showing the dimensions and measurements of the 1858 Remington grips and they match up exactly.
Thanks.

Yours are the XR3-RED size but for the New Models '73 to present.
The Gunblast list is good but a few errors and lack of updating.
From '53 to '63 the XR3 grip frame was used only on Single-Six and Blackhawks; they're 1/8" shorter at the top measured horizontally (the size of the Colt Peacemaker). The Super SS didn't come out until 1964 and the Old Army later.
The XR3-RED grip frame (for redesigned) came out in '63 for more knuckle room on the heavy recoiling calibers and was used on all the old models you list above, plus most New Models from 1973 right up to the present with different numbered grip frames for New Models, steel and Stainless steel grip frames. The exceptions are the "New Vaquero" and "Flat top Blackhawk" which use the original XR3 size, and Super BHs with 7 1/2" barrel or longer, of course.
Hope that helps,

OK, I'm not completely clear on what you're saying.
What models are you saying need to be added to this list for the XR3-RED style?
1953-1963 for the Single-Six, Super Single-Six, Blackhawk, Hawkeye, and Old Army pistols
Are you saying it should be
1953-Present for the Single-Six, Super Single-Six, Blackhawk, Hawkeye, and Old Army pistols and all New Model pistols except the Vaquero and Flat Top variants.

1. '53 to '63 the XR3-RED did not exist. So beginning in 1963 to present, ALL models used the XR3-RED as they were introduced. With exception of the two new models Vaquero and Flat Top variants, and the SBHs of course had their own Dragoon large grip frame when they have barrel lengths of 7 1/2" and longer.
2. No. See 1. above.

I'm feeling really dense here, but I'm still not sure I am following you 100%.
Are you saying that the list should read
1963-Present for the Single-Six, Super Single-Six, Blackhawk, Hawkeye, and Old Army pistols and all New Model pistols except the Vaquero and Flat Top variants.
Are there any others that should be added or deleted from this list?

Yes that's correct.
The Super Single Six includes it's variants like the Single Seven, Nine and Ten.
