Default I'd neglected the 1911s.

Due to the benevolent influence of this S&W site, I'd been stuck in a revolver rut. Revolver, revolver, revolver. It's all I've been reading about and working on and shooting for months and months. I unlocked the cabinet recently to get out a, yes, revolver, and noticed some forlorn 1911s huddled there, shivering in the cold. "Oh yeah," I thought, "1911s are very spiffy and have brought me a lot of enjoyment in the past." So I lessened the Revolver Distortion Field Enchantment by getting this:

2012 Colt Defender. I put on the grips you see in the photo, as I wasn't wild about the wraparound Pachmeyrs it came with. Took it out and had a good time shooting it, so I figured I'd kick it up a notch with this:

Dan Wesson Valor V-Bob-- new, though made in 2016. Holy moley, is this thing well made! It's now just about through its break-in period, and has behaved perfectly from the start. It was difficult to disassemble the first couple of times (thanks for the bushing wrench, CZ), but has eased up a bit and I can take it apart without tools now if I hold my mouth just right.

My chakras are once again balanced, it has stopped raining, the lilies are in bloom, and the world sparkles.

This is a road I need to go down once again some time. I like 1911s, but not really in .45. My first semi auto pistol was a 1911 and I never really loved it all that much, I traded it off for a SA XDm in 2009 and much preferred shooting it.

With 9mm 1911s taking the stage in the more mass produced areas (save the uber costly double stack ones available 10+ years ago), I may once again look into one some day. The SA Range Officer being available in 9mm has really got my attention as of late.

We all have to drag a few 1911's out from time to time. A good 1911 trigger is a wonderful thing. I'm still working on the E Series trigger, it still needs more smoothing. I couldn't understand the flat black coating on the sear and hammer. Does not equal a smooth trigger until it was stoned off.

The Colt Gold cup has been my Bullseye gun for quite a few years (over 30).

I built this Springfield up myself except for the metaloy finishing and milling the slide for the Bomar's.

This RIA is in 9mm, I previously had one in 45 but in a weak moment sold it. Probably the most gun "for the money" in a 1911.

You did well. As much as I like my S&W revolvers, I try not to neglect my 1911s.

Have various M1911's in .22, 9mm, 10mm and different barrel lengths in .45....
In keeping with things S&W, this is the one I've had the longest.
In the mid-1970's there were very few carry-friendly adjustable sight options for M1911's.
I took a used, like new Series 70 and had a S&W K frame adjustable sight milled into place on it's slide. The 'smith fitted a ramp front to it.
Still shooting this gun all these years later.
This sight combo was indeed considered 'high-speed/low drag' at the time :-)

Got my first 1911 when I was 14 and have had many over the years. I had this one built as a retirement gift to myself a few years ago on a pre-70 Series Colt.

This one is an old Military Colt 1911 that I bought in a pawn shop when I was stationed at Ft Benning. A buddy of mine in the AMU helped me build it into a carry gun (remember, they weren't worth much back then). I stupidly sold it several years later and it went through two owners and was stolen and recovered before finding it's way back to me last year.

With my considered decision to buy, carry and proficiently shoot S&W revolvers, I find myself down to only one 1911...a Series I Kimber Ultra Carry purchased new in 1999. This one gets handed down.....

Hello, glad to see old Corp has a 1911 with sw revolver, I thought I was the only one that partake in the sw sight exchange program with a colt 1911! I have two, series 70 full size and a combat commander. Curiosity of APW back in the day.

Right now I'm down to 4 1911's. I thinned the herd down from the 21 1911's I had at the beginning of the year!

Did somebody say 1911s?

BTW: this is an old picture. I've added a few more since then.

Thanks for all the wonderful pics of your 1911's. My 1943 Ithaca is in semi retirement and my Springfield Armory (the new one) is currently at the gunsmith's getting a new grip safety fitted. Started getting hammer fall when the grip safety was pressed. Couldn't believe it when the smith told me it was worn out. Seriously considering a 3rd 1911 so I won't have to go through 45acp drought again. Frank

Ok, I’ll play along...

Here’s a sampling of my 1911 family, including my current daily carry), a semi custom RIA in matte nickel - I work for Armscor Global Defense in Manila.

As much as I like my older 4 & 5 screw S&W's, 1911's run a close second and may possibly be a tie. Over the years I've had a lot of different newer makes and models of 1911's from RIA, Remington, Ruger, S&W, Springfield & Colts. I went through all these and finally found a Dan Wesson Valor in Blue finish.......WOW. All the others except (1) Ruger & (3) Colts are gone, and I now have (3) DW's and expect the Ruger will go down the road soon to help fund another DW. IMHO DW is the best value in 1911's on the market today.

I liked the .45 Valor so much, I picked up it;s twin in 9mm, shoots like a .22 and a lot cheaper to have some fun at the range.

Pictured are my (2) DW Valors ( older picture, grips have been changed now to match the Vigil, I just did not like the thin grips pictured) , my newest, a DW Vigil LW Commander in 9mm that I changed the grips on. I couldn't leave out my (2) long time stand by Colt's, GCNM and a model 01991, I figure they are here to stay.

Smith and Wesson N-Frame revolvers and 1911 auto loaders are my first two loves

Come on, Who doesn't love the 1911.

The very first handgun I bought new was a Colt 1911 Series 70 Gold Cup back in 1976. Funny I can not find a picture of it. I will pull it out and shoot a fresh one. Yes I still own it after 4 decades but has has been retired.

That pistol was just the start of a life long passion.

I have added MANY 1911s since then

Starting off with some of the Colt Gold Cups

Delta Gold Cup

Elite IX

USA Shooting Team Gold Cup

Now some of the Long Slides

45SUPER V-16

Les Baer Target Master

AMT

Javelina LS

10MM Auto "THOR's Hammer"

I know, I need a new photo of the Grizzly LS

Now the rest of them

My first 9x23 Winchester

Serial #70 of the re-introduced Series 70

My first LW Commander

Deluxe IPSC 20th Anniversary

West Point BiCentennial class pistol for 2001

Les Baer Concept VII

Ted Yost

Lieutenant Commander

Yes, I like Kimber

I really like the Eclipse's two tone look

Gold Match wide body

Super Match

2011 Centennial edition

Hand Built Customs

Combat Master

LS9

There are still more that have not been photographed. One day I will fix that

I shoot revolvers the most! S&W of course! The 1911 is my favorite auto loader. Only have 4.5, (the .5, is the Ciener .22 conversion I have on my S&W) but like them all. The .40 RIA Tactical II is a lot of fun to shoot. Bob
